Cometh the hour, cometh the man.

And at Switzerland’s first rehearsal at Eurovision 2019 Luca Hänni left his boyishness at the door.

He was the commanding man on stage, strutting out confidently to start the performance, before being joined by backing dancers.

The screens are set in reds, which is also the colour the backing dancers are dressed in, adding an alluring edge to the show.

In terms of choreography, early runs looked slightly questionable, with Luca not quite hitting the Mr Cool Mark.

But by the final run things looked a lot fresher.

Like the song the performance will draw comparisons to “Fuego”. But this has merits of its’ own.

Switzerland just needs to sharpen things up a little more and they’ll be on a more competitive footing.

I really liked this song from the beginning but….
The staging now kill it .
I don’t understand there is no body can tell them that the staging is the same with last year fuago….is sasha out of her ideas . Get some other options before you get on the stage so if it didn’t work go to the plan b .
But I think it’s too late for that.

I don’t know what performance everyone has been watching and been hating on so much. I just saw a raw footage, not what we will be seeing or hearing on TV, that is with the camera angles, proper sound mixing and other effects.

I dont get the hate. Im not a huge fan of the song myself, but its really looks strong. Though it feels Sacha is not very refreshing. Some parts reminds me of Fuego, cant help it.

Ok this is just the first rehearsal, calm down everyone.

I am not a fan of the vocals but they can improve. I like the outfits but i am not entirely sure they are the best choices for this song.

they said he’s not going to do the same video choreography but he’s doing it. I am not sure how Sacha contributed to this staging apart from the visuals.

It’s clearly not a winner (it was never meant to be a winner) but this will do great for Switzerland.

Also: Eurovision is like a wedding.

The bridesmaids should NOT be dressed better than the bride.

The backup dancers should NOT be dressed better than the singer.

I really hope that isn’t Lucas actual outfit and that those clothes are just what he is practicing in…

I don’t like all these Fuego-Comparisons this year. Only because Fuego was a really good Dance-Song that doesn’t mean every other Dance-Song is a copy of it. It’s not like Eleni invented latin-inspired Dance-Songs! To Switzerland: at the moment i’m not a big fan of that staging. Not because it reminds me of Eleni (like i said, she didn’t invent that staging), but because i miss the atmosphere of the music video. Maybe i watched it to much and hoped, that they could bring that video to life on stage. But I will wait till the official Semi-Final, on TV… Read more »

Eleni did not invent these dance songs but that doesn’t mean that staging of this entry is almost a carbon-copy to Fuego.

But Elenis performance was similar to Israel 2017, which was similar to Israel 2015, etc. I don’t think these were all copies, it’s just a staging that is perfekt for a dance-songs.
But to be honest, Switzerland could have really come up with something new and refreshing. They didn’t want to go risky and i think thats disappointing for me.

I see where you’re going but Cyprus last year was different from Israel in 2015/7. Eleni was a goddess, the choreography was spectacular. Cyprus 2018 and Swi 2019 have Sascha Jean Baptiste written all over them – I have nothing against her, mind you. But YES, the Swi could have or better said SHOULD have come up with, just as you said, something new and refreshing. I am very, very disappointed because I couldn’t wait to see what Swi had planned this year. As a huge Eurovision fan, I want to see new concepts on the stage. Repeating the Cyprus… Read more »

Yeah, Switzerland definitly had a good chance to make something really amazing and they did not take that chance. I still like the idea of the video clip. In my head it looks really cool when they bring that to the stage (exspecially the female dancer, she was awesome). It would be something different and like you I always want to see new ideas on stage. But maybe it would just look like a mix between Serhat 2016 and Great Britain 2015, we will never know 😀

I absolutely loved UK 2015! And the video for Swi this year set the expectations very high, not just for me. I was rooting for Swi to go high, pun intended. I am insulted by their lack of effort and lack of originality. The girl in the video made the video. Is it impossible to get a good concept for the staging? Something never seen before? The song has the potential for something new. It’s a lazy concept what they have now. I had only two complaints this year: Swi, the Fuego copy, and Sweden, the gospel as per Austria… Read more »

Sasha Jean Baptiste isn’t the right stager for Switzerland. They should’ve brought a good stager from Latin American, with latin music experience.

I agree with you. I think that some countries want to suck up to Sweden as much as possible. In some countries of Latin America, especially in the Carribean area, they start to dance when they are still in their nappies. Music and dance is in their blood.

Vibes of Israel 2017. Fun lightweight song but the singer has no charisma for me so like Ivri ot will limp to the final and end up mid table. The choreography does not suit the lyrics or musical style at all!

Sabrina

Can’t check the choreography or measure Luca’s charisma by the snippet, so I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt (though I guess I’ll feel just like Deban…). I was expecting something bigger, it’s Switzerland’s big chance after all. It looks professional and more than enough to qualify, but not explosive enough to fill “Fuego”’s shoes.

I can understand that they changed the clothes and put not a 1:1 Video Copy on stage.

From the beginning i was like switzerland has a good song and with a good staging they deserve to be in the top 10 but after this i see this between the places 8-16 in the final.. Vocally it was very average and they keep they same choreography which is kinda weird to me…. Sorry Switzerland but personally you disappointed be a little…

And to address the elephant in the room (based on the short clips), I think out of Switzerland and Cyprus, Luca’s now reminds me much more of Fuego than Tamta does. Maybe her dark/bdsm staging can act as a diversifier to Eleni’s colours/staging etc.

Disclaimer: I like both and would vote for both. Just expressing my opinion on the comparisons people made for Tamta, Luca VS Eleni now that we’ve seen the staging.

Similar song (or genre as some people prefer), same choreographer who tends to start everything with a catwalk! And maybe the dancing and red colours.

Does it remind me of Fuego? YES.
Do I care much? No, as they try to use a successful recipe so why not. (as long as of course they don’t try to convince us that is not similar)
Would I like it to win? No, as I think Eleni was better on what she delivered but wouldn’t mind them being top 5.
