Ask a wizard about magic and they’ll tell you spells can be hit and miss.

Sometimes you get a charm, sometimes you get a curse.

And in Norway’s first rehearsal at Eurovision 2019 KEiiNO showed they have the potential to be spellbinding.

The shot opens on Tom at the far front of the stage, before cutting back to Alexandra.

Both are clad in black leather and Norway are among the only countries this year utilising the full real estate of the stage.

Fred mirrors Tom at the front and the duo stick it out at the front before joining Alexandra at the rear.

The lights move from green to blue, reflecting the technicolor reality of the Northern Lights.

And in moments this was magical. The middle 8 has come in for a lot of criticism but powered up by pyro this had huge impact.

Production troubles emerged again – Fred struggled with in ears – and there are places this needs tightening. In wide shots, despite KeiiNO being a threesome, the stage threatens to swallow them.

Double down on Tom and Alexandra’s witch and wizard double act, and stress Fred’s spiritualness even more, and Norway will have a killer package on their hands.

Awww man, …no goofy animal ear wigs like the music video? I was really hoping for the same fun and kookiness that their music video had.

Someone below noted the lack of comments about Norway. I have to admit that I was attending to a personal emergency during this one and completely missed it. 🙁
So my notes say nothing. I’m sure it will be fine; it’s a fun song.

I just HAD to re-watch my sweet-darlings MGP performance because I love them and their energy. Surprise, there was a Malta-Chameleon ad. I read around here about the ads but that’s the first time I see one. Anyone “worried” about Norge this year? After their first rehearsal? Who knows? Anyways, #classyTom, #gorgeousAlexandra, #iliveforthejoik, #Fredmarryme.

Poor Keiino, bad running order 😛
Northern lights represented with fire? Why all dressed in black? Idk, I always imagined Tom in black, Fred in green, Alexandra with flowers in hair with some kind of forest fairy outfit, I think it’s more connected with the song..

The background looks very interesting, it has an immersive quality. But yes, I want more northern lights on it. Don’t be shy about it, Norway. I still think the key issue here is about how the singers interact, because they’re very appealing when they’re on their own and their voices work as magic as a group. I liked the idea of having Tom and Alexandra singing during the joik, but I agree with Whisker that it need to be a subtle thing. I would say it was a productive rehearsal, they still can get there.

KEiiNO are included in the highlights of the ESC official YT channel!!! Do watch it if you haven’t done it yet. They have more in store for us, I can’t wait! I also want to see more of the Northern Lights,

Just watched it, they said there’s “something magical” to add. Michela also promised something else. And Jonida seems really unsatisfied with the first rehearsal and hinted that the eagle will be gone. I liked that she hasn’t sugarcoated it. I hope the Albanian delegation is on the same page.

Yeah, I am a bit surprised. The eagle – double-headed eagle is emblematic for Albania, it’s on their flag. Also, for Kosovo because they consider themselves part of Albania although they are not. That should change. I want them to keep the eagle. However, Albania might get votes from the Albanian and Kosovan diaspora in Swi and in Sweden, they are in the same semi-final, but the message of the song, as in the country is calling you, it’s a bit contradictory considering reality as it is, love for the country but lack of opportunities, which is SO UNFAIR. Kosovo… Read more »

Only 10 comments so far? Well we can safely say that Norway is NOT a “fanwank” this year then.

This feels like it could be a shock non-qualifier.

From what I see Norway has tone down a little bit the messy performance of its NF. And now it feels lackluster. Could it flop and not even qualify? I still think they’ll be 8th-12th. And 18th-26th if they perform in the Grand Final

I love their MGP performance. The staging with the dancers in the beginning, there is one dancer, then another dancer, the camera angles were very smart. And then they dance together. And I love the rest of it. All of it.

They need to stop their body moving too much and sing to the spirit in the sky to have faith in the song to make it real and as for their audience, and viewers, let the camera do the work to nake the audience see and feel their heart attached to spirit in the sky, best of luck ,it’s winner

KEiiNO, my sweet darlings. But did Alexandra turned her back to Fred? Twice? And he looked towards her and then turned his head away? I didn’t like that. And I couldn’t hear the joik properly, Alexandra and Hugo? were “singing” at the same time as Fred was joikying. It’s not a bad idea, as in the other performers “perform” or what else are they doing on stage, but that should be more SUBTLE. The joik is an essential part of the song. Alexandra’s microphone was stronger than Fred’s, was that on purpose? Fred’s voice is sensational, the joik is unique.… Read more »

Yes, during the rehearsal the power on Fred’s microphone was bad. They have to fix it. His joik is exceptional. During the performances his joik should break my TV screen, metaphorically speaking. #joikislife.

“Playing with Fire” is my #1 in the whole history of Eurovision. I don’t like the guy but Paula has a great voice. Their staging was PERFECT, something never seen before, just what I want as a hard-core Eurovision fan.

But what dus it look like when there’s not fire coming out of the stage? Vocally perfect tho, and I love this song.
