On May 7, the acts competing in the second half of the second semi-final completed their first rehearsals. We had white laser beams, colourful chameleons and lots of mirrors.

We asked you who you thought had the best rehearsal of the day. After counting 6,482 votes, we can reveal that Malta’s Michela topped the poll with 21.52% of the votes.

Dressed down, with her hair in a bun, Michela proved that weeks of rehearsals have paid off. Her chameleons switched between scenes of a desert, an aquatic wonderland, and a verdant jungle. And like in real life, Michela’s chameleons aroused your curiosity and she came on top with 1,395 votes (21.52%).

Close behind Malta is the bookies’ favourite Duncan Laurence of The Netherlands. You may have reservations about Duncan’s first rehearsal as you put him on second position with 1,312 votes (20.24%). That being said, he has given a promising rehearsal with some intimate moments that got the press centre quite emotional.

Rounding out the top three was Azerbaijan. This was definitely one of the biggest surprises of this day (and perhaps even one of the best rehearsals of the entire semi finalists’ acts). Chingiz sounded fabulous and the staging was also stunning with 2 robots projecting a heart onto his chest. It looks as if your hearts have fallen for him, as you awarded him 1,154 votes (17.80%). Overall, Azerbaijan finished third in the poll – an outstanding result, especially in light of previous’ predictions.

Curiously, this year second runner Sergey Lazarev of Russia received only 10.49% of the votes to finish fourth. We are guessing that too many mirrors can be confusing sometimes.

The netherlands are indeed kind of a snoozefest xD
I think the ones we need to look at the most are iceland, azerbaijan and russia. All unique and amazing.

Deserving winner, Malta’s staging is really impressive. Personally I would put Azerbaijan on top, simply because it surprised me the most from all the acts yesterday, but I get why Malta finished first in the poll – it’s hip, colorful and rapidly changing, just like a chameleon. I’m not feeling the Netherlands so far, it was a good performance, but not an outstanding one, maybe I’ll change my mind once the exclusive rehearsal clip is out.

Chingiz and Michela were the best for me. The Netherlands are overrated, I love the song, but that staging was disappointing.

The Netherlands was a big disappointment. No idea how it got to the second place. Yes, I loved the Maltese entry, but Chingiz definitely had the best reaction, especially from the press center. Also how are we supposed to rank these performance if we didn’t even seen them in the first place?
As for the press’s favorite, Azerbaijan was ranked number one in the press center.

The staging was boring. Hope it’ll look better with the camera angles, but doubt that they will change anything.

What did one expect as staging for the netherlands? Do you think portugal would have won in 2017 if salvador would have hopped around on stage and they would have had a 3D projected violinist on screen? NO. Sometimes songs like that of the netherlands require no gimmicks or show to convey emotion and we can’t say until we see the actual performance. If a song manages to capture the emotions of all Europe without a lot of flashy dances, then that says a lot about its interpretation and its quality. So I still think the Netherlands will win, especially… Read more »

I’m so happy that she is delivering, I just need her to wear some of the high end costumes from the music video!

Yes, I will be disappointed if this was the outfit and hair style she will have for the live show.

Not really…

Honestly, Chingiz should be up there, he had the biggest impact with his first rehearsal.

Because he was rehearsing last and the press center was less empty than in the morning.
