Eurovision 2019 is moments away from taking centre stage. Seventeen acts are set to battle it out in the first semi-final in Tel Aviv.

Yesterday, we asked who you think should qualify from the first semi-final. The floor was open for our readers to have their say and choose the ten acts they think should qualify.

Our readers cast a massive 33,392 votes in about 24 hours and we can finally reveal the results.

In short, our fans think the ten qualifiers will be Greece, Cyprus, Australia, Iceland, Portugal, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Serbia, Hungary and Belgium.

Greece is our readers’ favourite, receiving 3,334 votes (9.98%). Our readers are also quite confident in Cyprus, Australia and Iceland. Those countries were the only ones to receive more than 2,500 votes and all appear to be safe qualifiers according to our readers.

Things are a bit more interesting at the other end of the table. Belgium is ranked tenth, with only 67 votes more than Poland. Tulia are still very much in the running according to our readers.

There is a big gap between Poland and the rest of the field. Georgia, Estonia, Belarus, San Marino, Finland and Montenegro did not stack up and our readers seem to think that this might be an eleven horse race.

We all know that Eurovision is often impossible to predict and we may be in store for a couple of surprises.

All will be revealed in a matter of hours.

What do you think of the poll results? Who do you think will qualify tonight? Let us know in the comments below.

Poll results: Who should qualify from Semi-Final 1 of Eurovision 2019?

  • Greece: Katerine Duska with “Better Love” — 3,334 votes (9.98%)

Something very wrong has happened with the portuguese voting process because in France, Spain and other countries many fans told the voting lines for Portugal was not working.
All this is absolutely true and eurovision is hidding the situation from the international press. In Portugal this information is already being reported on TV and everywhere.

Only politically correct songs go through to the Grand Final. Eurovision is losing credibility.

I dont think so. Of course her Victory is already 20 years ago – and she gets older too. In this Pop business for more young acts it s tough to get older and still address the people and be successful. Same with Madonna. Her Songs are not played on the radio in the US since she released Erotica and her Sex Book. She was turned down after that. And in Europe they play mostly her old classic Hits on the radio and not new releases. And for a Hit you need the radio air play. I think Dana International… Read more »

I hoped that Hungary, Poland, Belgium and Portugal would make it into the final.
The guy from San Marino as happy as I am for this little country could not sing at all. The Guys from Island with their growling SM kind of Show could also not sing at all.

Some things were really surprising.

8 out of my 10 qualifiers qualified, so I can’t be unhappy! 🙂 I was so happy when Slovenia was announced as qualifier, ‘cause I was almost angry at Serhat for stealing their place lol. I’m sad for some NQ’ers tho. I must say that the quality of the live performances was lacking somehow, except for some countries like Serbia who killed it tonight. If I’m honest, the lgbt references this evening were a bit too much. Don’t get me wrong, I love Eurovision for its diversity and the lgbt involvement, but it is a music competition overall 🙂

It’s part of their “characters” I would say. The extreme rock bands are in this attitude style “I don’t care about everything” (it’s the polite version), it’s in the package. I admit that I preferred 100000 times Lordi to Hatari (already because Lordi, at least they had a good song), but they are faithful to what they decided to be. It’s a specific musical style that targets a specific audience. It’s not at all my musical style … But their audience saved them.

So my top for this first night was 1) Greece (Good title with world accents, a tone of voice who catch the ears, staging that I preferred) 2) Australia (voice sublime, staged crazy – a bit copied on the show “Harem” by Sarah Brightman at Las Vegas but it is so well done that we say nothing) 3) Belgium (great song, too bad, the kid was not confident) 4) Serbia (a post modern Dalida, as our French commentator has said) 5) Estonia (good guitar pop with a good chorus, served by an handsome man … but with a limited voice)… Read more »

Quizás la burbuja es el esc y san marino y no Portugal. Su actuación será mítica en el tiempo, y yo no soy una burbuja porque hace décadas que no me lo permito, saludos

Am I the only one who thinks the gay references are a bit too much? I mean the awkward naked miki puctures + the forced kiss cam are a little bit distracting and making this more of a lgbt event than a song contest for all.

Soo agree with you. It’s ridiculous that you can’t have a cross in a eurovision song video but it’s considered ok to stick an lgbt agenda down your throat for 2hours straight during what suppose to be a politics&ideology free song contest. And that being said Im gay myself.

Im gay and I also agree… I don’t need my sexuality addressed at every moment. I want everybody to enjoy eurovision and how more you push a certain agenda the more it will work against you. Like we say in the netherlands: just act normal, then you’re doing crazy enough already.

Portugal HAS to qualify!I don’t see another option.
The songs I enjoyed a lot are (in order of appearance):
1.Czech Rep.
2.Slovenia
3.Serbia
4.Belarus (what?! shame on me :P)
5.Australia
6.Iceland <3
7.Portugal

A bit disappointed by Greece. I felt it was a bit of a mess, and I didn’t like the backing vocalists’ voices. Belgium is out for me, sorry.
Winners of this semi imo: Australia, followed closely by Iceland <3

That being said, I have to say Eliot didn’t have his best day, so maybe Estonia/Georgia will qualify instead. Oh I’m so sad for him, his song is amazing…

Mentioning only some: Cyprus-like it on the radio, not the performance Australia-dont like it, only the background of the galaxy is nice Greece- her face expresions during the song were awful, boring song Serbia-average song, the best vocal tonight Hungary-personaly love it, have it in my car playlist Poland-like every slavic etno song Slovenia-hate this song from first listening Iceland-the most melodic even with strange visuals Portugal-wanted to be artistic and became grotesk San Marino- school recitation but… Read more »

So many are shockingly sour. Only slovenia, serbia, Hungary can sing. I was embarassed by Greece. Portugal, australia and Iceland are out of this world. Hard to judge. They are not songs – more like statements. Iceland a bit childish. Australia more like an experiment than a song. Portugal is an art experiment. Something you could find in any art gallery in the world. Video art. Poland and Finland are only ok.
