They’re the last Hungarian Eurovision act to make the grand final, as earlier this month Joci Pápai ended his country’s qualifying streak.

And metalcore heroes AWS didn’t leave their magic in Lisbon. Since then they’ve mashed up their Eurovision entry “Viszlát Nyár” with Netta‘s “Toy”, released a new album and given a special unplugged concert at Budapest’s famous Madách theatre. And drummer Áron Veress revealed to us before their album release show that, as a tribute to their foreign (mostly Eurovision) fans, they’d be releasing some of the songs from their new album in English. Well, they’re here!

If we don’t include the English version of “Viszlát Nyár”, which was released before last year’s contest, they have released four songs in English: “X/0”, “Hol Voltál”, “Fekete Részem” and “Lakatlan Ember”. While the music remains unchanged, the English lyrics work really well (Örs’ diction is good too!) and also singable. That’s huge knowing how hard it is to translate songs to and from Hungarian.

The man who deserves the praise is none other than Hungarian Head of Delegation Lőrinc Bubnó, who did a great job translating Örs Siklósi‘s lyrics. Let’s check ’em out.

Mankind: Deserted

The USNK collab

Some of you may remember rap duo USNK from this year’s A Dal. They are, of course, the X Factor Hungary 2018 winners who made it to the semifinals of the show. As they’re very popular in both Hungary and neighbouring Romania (especially the Transylvanian region, since the boys hail from the city of Cluj), it was easy to see that they would make a collaboration. But the surprise came at this year’s Fonogram Awards (a sort of Hungarian Grammy), where the two groups premiered their collab track “Idő” (Time) live, setting the stage on fire.

The song itself (with the lyrics penned by USNK, Örs Siklósi, and Hungarian Eurovision 2013 act ByeAlex) is about people who waste their time sinking into their daily routines. The rapping of Kund and Nimród blends well with the softer instrumentals of the verses, before Örs’ angry vocals and screaming take over, conveying the cruel reality: our world has become so fast that we can easily let the really important things pass by. An important lesson to be learned. And a really good collaboration, of course!

What do you think of the English tracks and AWS’ new song with USNK? Tell us your thoughts below!

Do not forget about Mikolas Josef and his new song Acapella. It’s potential summer hit, maybe even worldwide….

I really enjoyed all of these, very polished performances. A bit cliche in places but overall a really good effort.
Not 100% certain on the pronunciation of “epitome” but that was the only thing I spotted so a really good effort to say it’s not their first language.
To my ear, this would be well respected amongst metalcore fans so it’s really good to see this genre doing so well out of Eurovision.
