Way back in June, when the host city bidding process had nine cities in the running, we were busy thinking about potential Eurovision 2020 hosts. Speculation and suggestions were coming thick and fast so we threw together a quick poll. We presented 15 personalities from the world of Eurovision — including Eurovision alums like Sieneke, mainstream stars like Glennis Grace and Eurovision-related journalists like Aran Bade.
After collecting a total of 5,851 votes, we can now reveal — without any shock or surprise whatsoever — that Duncan Laurence topped our list with 1,205 votes. That’s around 21% of all those cast.
In a Q&A on Twitter earlier this summer, Duncan expressed that he would love to present next year’s Eurovision. Social media users were quick to suggest he could pair up with Ilse DeLange — his mentor on The Voice and the singer who got him the gig at Eurovision.
And that pairing plays out in our poll, too. Not far behind Duncan with our readers is his mentor Ilse DeLange.
Ilse, who took The Netherlands all the way to second place at ESC 2014, is an absolute stunner with impeccable English. Her many trips to Nashville have given her extra polish and poise when speaking in English, and we have no doubt that she would absolutely wow an international audience if she took the mic in Rotterdam. She earned an impressive 1,031 votes — or around 18%.
Eurovision 2016 artist Douwe Bob came third.

I want professional television hosts, ones with gravitas and experience. They don’t have to be comedians, singers, or known to a European audience. They don’t have to be even in light entertainment.
Everyone their own opinions, but mine are Eva Jinek and Buddy Vedder. And two is enough for me.
Eva Jinek unfortunately doesn’t seem a likely candidate now since she’s defecting NPO for RTL. I think Jeroen Pauw might do it, though.
Hope to see Anouk and Ilse perform interval acts
Not happening really, they’re both on my list of Eurovision alumnis that I want a cameo/interval act for next year tho. While we can take Duncan for granted, Ilse should definity get a chance to appear on stage. Other stars I’d like to see include Anouk, OG3NE, Douwe Bob, Waylon, Glennis, Edsilia Rombley and some past winner(s) as well. And having read a bit about Dutch presenters, Eva Jinek seems like an obvious choice, doesn’t she?
Eva Jinek just today announced her leave to a commercial broadcaster so is out of competition.
I deeply wonder who the 106 people who voted for gordon are. If I’d wake up to gordon hosting the eurovision song contest, I’d be like certain that I’ve landed in hell.

I know it’s pretty common for people to suggest that last year’s winner should host since Måns did it in 2016, but I do genuinely think they would be a fantastic hosting team for this year

Those two were a wonderful exception, the best hosts far and wide compared to who came before and long after 2003.
All the names, even Jan Smit, seem very unlikely to me. Some of them work for commercial broadcasters, some of them can’t be trusted in a live broadcast.
Besides, this poll should have included people like Eva Jinek, Dionne Stax and Rik van de Westelaken. And maybe people like Doutzen Kroes or Michiel Huisman.
