It is the entry that will fly the flag for Madrid in Rotterdam ón May.
But ahead of the official release of “Universo” on Thursday, Spanish broadcaster RTVE has revealed more details about the song.
It transpires the track was chosen from a long list of 50 candidate songs. “Universo” was written during a songwriting trip to Scotland. During the trip to Edinburgh, Blas Cantó worked with producer Dan Hammond and other composers who had prior experience with Eurovision.
TVE Entertainment Director Toñi Prieto also dished further details on “Universo” saying:
“[It] is a mid-tempo song, with an epic ending, and although is it is a new record for Blas, keeps his essence. It will enable him to demonstrate his full potential.”
The eventual song selection was influenced by Blas’ desire to have a song that translated across languages. He’s also described it as a theme that has always been very present in his life:
Yo lo he tenido muy presente en mi vida. Para mi es el que me sostiene, el que conspira para que mis sueños se hagan realidad. Siempre le he dado las gracias. ? pic.twitter.com/AD42KRAi4G

Blas also revealed he’s keen to record “Universo” in English and French. When he performs it, he has also floated the possibility of performing it in the other co-official languages of Spain.
Support for “Universo” from former Spanish stars
Former Eurovision stars have turned out to give their support for Blas at Eurovision 2020.
Pastora Soler, Ruth Lorenzo and Edurne who sang for Spain in 2012, 2014 and 2015 are among stars lending their support to this year’s Eurovision star.

Are you excited to hear the song? Let us know in the comments below!
Spanish hype is coming….I can imagine how they will hype this song like before.
Can’t wait to hear it!
big crunch?
Edurne/Amanecer 2.0
This better be better than La Venda.
labendaiakaiò
Excuses you la venda was a bop ?!
So excited!!!!
the hypebuilding for this song gives me big Edurne/Amanecer vibes–and that song came 21st
That’s because the staging was horrific. She went from my top 5 to by bottom 5
No, that’s because the song was quite average and uninspiring! 🙂
I am very curious to hear the song , I can ‘t wait !! Good Luck to Spain and Blas Cantó, I hope for a great song.
Off Topic: Fleur East is not going to compete in Esc in 2020.. So disappointed.. UK won’t do well this year either if they come up with bad songs again…
What exactly is an epic ending? He goes to a higher note? I am not being sarcastic, just curious.
Yeah, probably.
So we could potentially here a version of “Universo” in Basque, Catalan, Galician, etcetera? Nice. 🙂
It better live up to the hype, otherwise, I’d be very disappointed
And I love epic endings xD
What hype? He’s just promoting his song. what do you want him to say instead? “Oh yeah, the song sux a little, but well, whatever”. LOL
I guess I chose the wrong word
Rather teasing than hype
Lots of hints and stuff about the song
Stay positive, guys! Spain just delivered an amazing internally-selected JESC entry? Why not assume this is good until proven otherwise? =D
And more teasing xd I knew it xd It’s a meme like Aly Ryan at this point.
I don’t have any expectations or hopes for our entry but I’m glad the producer is Spanish at least. We’ll see
more hype:) Dont give up BEFORE its out. Portugal won so everyone can win:)
Ya tengo muchos illusiones….
Sounds like a Flop
that was not very nice
You know what I will believe it when I hear the song. Enough of building hype. And that should apply for Cyprus, as they did in 2019, and Bulgaria, in 2018. Hole they’ve learnt from that
As intrigued as I am for the song, this is too much hype and it’s quite off putting. Good luck though Spain!
