After a long day of auditions, twelve acts were chosen to perform in Belarus’ national selection for Eurovision 2020. Shortly before the big semi-final allocation draw for Eurovision 2020 in Rotterdam, the Eastern European nation had its own national final running order draw. We’re pleased to share it below.

The Belarusian national selection for Eurovision 2020 sees a variety of new and known names. While singer AURA is on her twelfth attempt to represent the country, the electronic duo VAL was only founded last year. Also in terms of songs, we see diversity: CHAKRAS‘s “La-ley-la” plays with Slavic folk music while KeySi‘s “Chili Pepper” is unadulterated dance.

The running order was done through a ballot draw. Each act drew a random piece of paper. On the inside, the act could see its spot in the running order draw. Through the draw, it was decided that national final veteran NAPOLI will open the show and VAL will close.

Belarus’ national final running order

1. NAPOLI — “Don’t Let Me Down”
2. Sasha Zakharik — “Rocky Road”
3. Anastasiya Malashkevich — “Invisible”
4. CHAKRAS — “La-ley-la”
5. Anastasiya Glamozda — “Burning Again”
6. Anastasiya Razvadоvskaya — “Hello”
7. Yan Yarosh — “Fire”
8. Angelika Pushnova — “True Love”
9. Darya Hmelnitskaya — “On Fire”
10. AURA — “Barani svajo”
11. KeySi — “Chili Pepper”
12. VAL — “Da vidna”

What will the Belarusian national final look like?

Besides drawing the order in which the artists will sing, the Belarusian broadcaster also announced the date for the show: 28 February. That’s a Friday evening.

Last year the winner was decided by a jury only. But in 2020 half of the result will be decided by a jury and the other half by televoting.

Belarus will also up their game when it comes to the show. While the Belarusian selection has traditionally been held in the same television studio, Belteleradiocompany has announced it is moving the selection to a bigger, shinier place.

The Belarusian national final will take place in one of the studios of Belarusfilm, the main film company of the country. The stage design (down below) looks impressive and contains not one, but even two catwalks.

After watching a video with snippets of all the songs, Belarus has some pretty terrible songs to choose from. If this is the lack of quality they are getting to represent their country, they should have sat out this year.

Belarus have decided to go bigger. brighter, bolder with this year’s selection. Maybe they’re trying to shake up their underdog status.

Had Belarus been drawn into the second semifinal two years ago, Alekseev probably would’ve won the contest and last year’s event would have been in Minsk, not Tel Aviv. BTW, I’m with you on CHAKRAs and Sasha as well.
