Anna Bergendahl Kingdom Come Melodifestivalen 2020

The Bergendemption continues anew! Twelve months after staging a spectacular comeback with “Ashes To Ashes”, Anna Bergendahl has stormed direct to the Melodifestivalen 2020 final with “Kingdom Come”.

And the bookies are paying attention — she’s now the favourite to win Sweden’s Eurovision selection.

Melodifestivalen 2020 Odds: Anna Bergendahl favourite to win

Just one week ago, Anna was languishing mid-table with odds of 16.0. But in the hours since deltävling two in Göteborg, bookmakers have slashed her odds. Unibet is now offering bets of 4.0 for the Eurovision 2010 singer to win the selection outright.

Should the bookies be proven right, it would be an almost fairytale like victory given that Anna infamously became the first — and to date only — Swedish act to miss out on the Eurovision final exactly one decade ago.

But the oddsmakers are notoriously fickle and everything could change in a matter of days or even hours.

Melodifestivalen 2020: Other favourites

Just behind Anna is Hanna Ferm, the previous Melfest favourite. She’s drifted ever so slightly, from 4.0 down to 5.0.

We won’t hear Hanna’s song for another two weeks, but there are several other reasons why punters may be backing her. She finished third in the 2019 competition while her songwriting team is made up of heavy-hitters such as Jimmy Jansson and Laurell Barker. Furthermore, she’s performing last in semi-final four – a slot that’s often considered to be reserved for potential winners.

Next is Dotter. The “Bulletproof” popstar has shot up to third spot. Like Bergendahl, she’s also riding on a redemption narrative, given that she failed to make it out of her semi-final in 2018.

This day last week she was trading at 21.0. Now she can be backed at 8.0.

The all-female top four is completed by The Mamas. Even though they’ve slipped from second in the overall rankings, their odds have actually narrowed slightly — from 8.5 to 8.0.

Rounding out the top six is a trio of male acts. Mendez & Alvaro Estrella, Mohombi and Robin Bengtsson are all at 12.0.

Previous bookies’ darlings FELIX SANDMAN and Paul Rey are next at 15.0. They’ve both slipped out of favour after missing out on direct qualification in their respective semis. Victor Crone is also at 15.0. He continues to drift — last week he was 10.0 and before that he was 7.5.

It’s important to note that we obviously haven’t heard most of the songs yet, and these odds are driven partly by hype.

That said, bookies and oddsmakers do keep their ears-to-the-ground and often have insight from songwriters and officials close to (and even inside) SVT. Sometimes their crystal balls are based on facts that the rest of us simply don’t know about. The only problem is it’s hard to know when they’re on it and when they’re not…

I’m sorry, I don’t get it! Anna is very likeable, but the song is from another era… I liked Ashes to Ashes much better, although the two songs are quite similar (to my ears, at least). If it was up to me, I’d cancel MF right now and send Dotter

Please from a UK fan, Dotter is absolutely the best choice. It feels far more contemporary and just more memorable in my opinion, I would absolutely vote for it if Sweden picked it! 🙂

For me Dotter or Robin is better option for Sweden in ESC than Anna or Mamas. Only Dotter til now can give 7 th victory for Sweden in ESC.

Vad tror ni svenskar om oddsen utifrån vad era vänner och bekanta säger om akterna hittills ? Sedan hur tror ni internationella juryn röstar?

It’s difficult because we haven’t heard all of the songs yet. But if there is nothing better that comes along than Anna or Dotter then I think Dotter and Bulletproof will have a more international appeal than Anna, sad to say., cause I love both of them. Kingdom Come is a typical swedish schlager. Could be wrong though. My thoughts in the final is that the international juries will go for Dotter and the people for Anna. But that’s if there’s no other competition. The Mamas song is really not good enough, neither is Robin Bengtsson. So we will see… Read more »

I agree. I think Anna is better than the song. The song is schlager. Exchange her with say Sanna Nielsen or Jessica Andersson and no one would like it..

I find this overrated, I really like Anna as a performer and it did deserve to qualify to the final, but to win? I really wanted to like the song more but it stays good not great in my book. Also I wasn’t a fan of the staging I feel like it’s not her style and it doesn’t fit the song. To be honest, no one till now seems like a winner to me. Semi Final 2 was better quality wise than Semi 1 but all 5 songs that made the top 5 were pretty close in my book (personal… Read more »

Sweden proves that when you don’t have ‘cute’ boys in a semi—women can actually come through…especially with elaborate staging

They were the best by far…I wonder if the international jury sinks Anna—they tend to not like country-type songs…just ask Wiktoria

I actually hope we have an interesting vote in the final. Last year was so anti-climatic.

Halfway through and Dotter is the best package so far. Top five material. Anna has a good performance but the song itself is meh.

I would love Anna and the whole narrative but I’m afraid about International juries tbh. It is pure televoting bait and I wish Sweden will go for it. Very schlagger vibe yet different from Keiino or Rasmussen who got 12 points from Swedes.

I managed not to spoil any songs or results from Melfest yesterday and today I watched it all for the first time. Without knowing the outcome, I placed Anna as my 1st and Dotter as my 2nd of the evening. Paul was my 3rd and while I thought that Vamos Amigos is a mess, I knew the song would have a broad appeal cause it looks fun on stage.
Thus, I believe that Sweden made all the right choices. 🙂

Wouldn’t bet on her! She is far better than the song which is quite meh. That said even though I don’t think Sweden will win it’s fun that we have songs far surpassing those from last few years MF. And it’s even more fun that we have songs that could get televote love to, rather than the standard jury votes entries!

Yeah I don’t get why people are so excited about this. It’s just OK. She’s a good performer but this borderline might not qualify for the final.

At the moment I can see Dotter and Anna both representing Sweden, but for rather different reasons.

That said, I still want to see what Mohombi, Mariette and Hanna Ferm have in store for us! I see those three being able to upset the odds in their favour (unless someone else surprises us with a bop).

I can’t imagine the scenario of Anna winning the whole thing. I wouldn’t put much money for her. I even think Dotter has higher chances. And I don’t know what are Mendez and Alvaro Estrella doing so well placed. They are still in Andra Chansen and juries would kill them in the final.

Lolek

Generally agree. I think its possible that Mendez and Alvaro could place high in the popular vote in the grand final and, while I don’t think the juries would be entirely in their favour, I do think they would be a lot more generous than in 2018 since Alvaro has a much stronger (and more present voice) than Mendez.

No one who is not a hardcore fan would remember that. My friends who watch it could not even remember that we sent 5 guys in a row. i dont think normal people would remember that then when they vote:). its 5 guys. Måns, Frans,Robin, Benjamin, John. not 6.

Agree, but I hope we will send a woman. Don’t think people think aktive if there is à mail or female they vote for. And they have no clue that there are critics against Sweden for sending mail singers.
Less att vi så ofta alltid röstar fram män. I idol, mello och liknande. Vi tjejer är dåliga på att stötta andra tjejer tycker jag. Även när vi har suveräna tjejer med.
