Iva Songvakeppnin 2020 Iceland

Five acts remain in the semi-final battle in Iceland’s Söngvakeppnin 2020. The golden ticket to Rotterdam is in their grasp, but only two can qualify for the grand final in Laugardalshöll Arena at the end of February.

There are some well known Eurovision and national final veterans taking to the stage on Saturday, including Vinir Sjonna lead singer Matti Matt and Iceland’s sweethearts and Söngvakeppnin 2017 runners-up Daði og Gagnamagnið. But despite their level of expertise, it’s the newcomer IVA who is your clear favorite to qualify.

Iceland’s Söngvakeppnin 2020 – IVA is your favorite to win semi-final two

IVA and her haunting tune “Oculis Videre” pulverised the competition, picking up 656 votes. That amounts to 58.73% of all votes cast.

Half Icelandic and half Dutch, Iva Marín Adrichem has made music for most of her life. These days, she studies classical music while residing in Rotterdam. Could she represent Iceland on home soil… so to speak?

Coming in second is another new talent. Nína and her upbeat pop number “Ekkó” scored 21.49% of the votes, a total of 240 votes in all.

Nína has some Eurovision roots. Her mother Rúna Stefánsdóttir competed as a solo artist on two separate occasions in Söngvakeppnin and accompanied Selma on her silver medal journey to Israel in 1999.

So Nína should have a pretty good idea on how the Eurovision bubble works.

If these results become real, Matti Matt, Daði og Gagnamagnið and Hildur Vala, who are all well known and popular musicians, may have to bite the dust and say goodbye to their dreams of representing Iceland at Eurovision 2020.

Of course, there may or may not be a reprieve since the broadcaster has the discretion to offer a jury wildcard to one eliminated semi finalist.

Poll results: Who should win Söngvakeppnin 2020 semi-final two?

  1. IVA – Oculis Videre 58.73 % (656 votes)
  2. Nína – Ekkó 21.49% (240 votes)
  3. Daði og Gagnamagnið – Gagnamagnið 14.77% (165 votes)
  4. Hildur Vala – Fellibylur 2.69 % (30 votes)
  5. Matti Matt – Dreyma 2.32% (26 votes)

Total votes 1,117

IVA is my favorite of this semi and the whole of Icelands selection. I like Dimma’s song as well from semi one. My only restraint with IVA’s song is if she wins she’ll end up singing her English version instead and though I still like it I just prefer the Icelandic version. Either way good luck to all the participants in the second semi.

I get why people like Iva, but personally I’m curious about Dadi. I really like 80’s vibes.

Nina for the win! Her song is not as boring as Iva’s.

Just curious, in case Iva wins, I believe she would be the first blind artist since Diana Gurtskaya from Georgia ik 2008. Am I wrong?

Hector said “since”, so that isn’t rly relevant, but a cool tidbit of information nonetheless

Iva is Top 10 material and an incredible contrast to Hatari. She’s absolutely perfect.

Decent selection, but Iva outshines everyone.
It’s not only about her good voice, this is simply beautiful.

I am really interested to see Iva sing live. This type of song requires an amazing vocal performance – if she delivers that, I can’t see anyone beating her.

But I do have a soft spot for Nina.

Iva is the first definitely TOP10 of 2020! It would be nice to see another country that haven’t won the contest after so many years have their own success

I think I must be the only one who prefers gagnamagnid over oculis videre. its such a fricken bop and I dunno why its so underrated. its throwback, but still modern. my winner by far, Iva as a distant second

My guess is that Dadi and Iva will go through and final will be a three horse race including Dimma from first semifinal.

Agree that Gagnamagnid is underrated! I really love it. I think Iva is my number one tho, but I will be very happy if they choose Dadi as well.
