On Saturday night, Armenia will decide its entry for Eurovision 2020 with the national final Depi Evratesil. But before then, the broadcaster has released clips of the performance rehearsals, giving hints of what to expect at the national final.

The clips are filmed from the audience and don’t show the camera angles or audio feed that viewers will get to experience on Saturday night. But it’s enough to get an idea of the sort of staging the acts are using and how their vocals will come across.

It seems that while some performers are rehearsing with their full costumes, other may only be wearing certain costume items or may not be rehearsing with their costume at all.

Agop – “Butterflies”

Agop is joined by two dancers who deliver butterfly-inspired vogueing in front of a colourful LED wall.

Arthur Aleq – “Heaven”

Arthur keeps it simple, standing in front of a graphic showing a waveform animation.

Athena Manoukian – “Chains On You”

Queen Athena has a throne and is joined by two male dancers. Behind her, a giant diamond is displayed on the LED wall.

ERNA Tamazyan – “Life Faces”

ERNA is wearing a striking outfit, including a yellow top with a long train. Behind her, the LED wall includes shimmering blue-toned graphics.

EVA Rida – “No Love”

EVA wears a long leather skirt and keeps her movements simple, Behind her, geometric graphics are displayed on the LED wall.

Gabriel Jeeg – “It’s Your Turn”

Gabriel is joined by two female dancers. He’s bathed in golden light, while the LED wall behind has a space look with magenta lasers.

Hayk Music – “What It Is To Be In Love”

Hayk serves 1990s boyband realness by performing his ballad on a stool. The LED wall displays gentle graphics, reminiscent of an underwater scene.

Karina EVN – “Why?”

There’s a lot going on with Karina’s LED graphics. The wall displays some of the song lyrics and later shows likenesses of Karina herself. She has a posse, y’all!

Miriam Baghdasaryan – “Run Away”

Miriam is keeping it simple, elegant and red. The Armenian-Canadian singer is wearing a long red dress and is surrounded by dramatic lighting in the same colour.

Sergey & Nikolay Harutyunov – “Ha, Take a Step”

Sergey is the only one on stage in this clip, dressed in white and delivering his powerhouse vocals. The LED walls displays graphics of the earth and peaceful protests, underscoring the song’s lyrics.

TOKIONINE – “Save Me”

TOKIONINE is joined by four dancers, bringing energy to the dance song. The lighting is emerald-green-toned, with Matrix-style graphics on the LED wall.

Vladimir Arzumanyan – “What’s Going On Mama”

Vladimir appears to have borrowed the reception couch from ARMTV. He’s sitting in a replica of a domestic living room, while the LED wall shows a giant woman’s head.

The grand final of Depi Evratesil 2020 will take place on Saturday night from 19:00 CET.

Vladimir Arzumanyan seems like the best option to me. His song is kinda good and his vocals are on point. I hope at lest the jury backs him up. Athenas songs is too bitchy for my taste and annoying however her staging looks promising. TOKIONINE is another option, but at the moment his staging looks too messy, but its just a rehearsal so everything could change when we see the full performance. Good luck to everyone and let the best one win.

This looks like a lot of fun. I’m sorry that I am going to miss it. I understand there is an Athena v. Tokionine expectation, but don’t overlook some of the others either. Have fun. 🙂

None of these songs and performers impressed tbh.. It will be hard for Armenia to qualify this year.

Athena has the best rehearsal clip out of them all. Also, her song is the only good song in this selection. I played it at a party yesterday and everyone loved it.

They will be one of the main players in their semi, I think they will still make it

Armenia’s going to be in the second half of their semi-final, so it’s possible that they’ll get many points. #onlytimewilltell 🙂

Athena Manoukian NUMBER1!

Admittedly, from these clips Athena sounds and looks like the best option. I’m still not a particular fan of the song, though. As I’m not that overwhelmed by any of the songs, I guess I’d be okay with Athena going to Rotterdam.
BTW, has anyone checked the ratio of dislikes vs likes on all rehearsal videos except Athena’s? With all the other songs it’s half or more (even as big as 5/6).

Athena looks amazing and sounded better than the studio version.

It’s quite funny that Armenia eliminated Poison (Ari Ari) in their SF stage two years ago but this year, their frontrunner is a similar song/style that’s half as good.
Come back, Tamar and save us!

Seriously though, these are bad. I’d say that Agop, Sergey/Nikolai and Miriam are the only acts that are remotely improved by actually seeing them.

I may have decided to lean on the side of Team Athena now. Better stage presence, good staging, strong enough live vocals. They do something like that in Rotterdam, her chances of qualifying are much better than they were before.

After the rehearsals I’m more on Athena’s team as well but Tokionine and Sergey & Nikolay(well Sergey as he was the only one on stage I suppose I should say) also did very well in the rehearsals. So for me it’s between them three.

Athena was the obvious winner before, and these clips only proved why.

I really hope TOKIONINE takes it, but it’s gonna be a close race between Athena and him.

I’m the first one in enjoying a good six pack, but is there not a lot of shirtless dancers this year on the finals?
