Daði Pétursson and his band Gagnamagnið will compete in the second semi-final of Söngvakeppnin 2020 on Saturday with their song “Gagnamagnið” or “Think about things” as it is titled in English. And now the band has released the music video.

The video drop was somewhat of a surprise for everyone but count on Daði and Gagnamagnið to keep us on our toes one way or the other. The singer and his band appear at a traditional family gathering and perform their song in the most non-traditional way.

Wearing oversized green sweaters emblazoned with their own faces, they attempt to shake their assets — much to the shock of some of the mature women in the room. Their synchronised hip sways are at once geeky but also hilariously cool. If those dance moves appear on stage in Háskólabíó, they may well start a national trend!

The video was created by the Andvari production company: director Guðný Rós Þórhallsdóttir and cinematographer Birta Rán Björgvinsdóttir.

It is clear that Daði and co had a blast making the video. From their head bobs to their coordinated foot wiggles, they move as one. And while their expressions are deliberately muted, they’re very clearly concealing a whole lot of laughs and joy.

The running order for Saturday’s semi-final two:

  1. Daði & Gagnamagnið – “Gagnamagnið/Think about things”
  2. Hildur Vala – “Fellibylur”
  3. IVA – “Oculis Videre”
  4. Nína – “Ekkó/Echo”
  5. Matti Matt – “Dreyma”

Do you think that their quirky dance moves give the song extra life? Do you hope that they keep this fire alive when they the stage this weekend? Let us know in the comments down below!

I don’t want to live in a world where I can’t vote for this at Eurovision. Do the right thing, Iceland!

Great video concept. Using your awkwardness to your advantage, sure, I get it. The song is a bit throwaway though, that’s my only worry. But good luck in the competition.

Love it, last time he rocked and deserved. Now he deserves again. Don’t doubt and send him to Rotterdam! 🙂

I need this in Rotterdam so much.
Excellent video. Not what I was expecting. They still dance like I do.

I just don’t know what people find mature in something like this, I’ll never know. I hope the Icelanders will choose with their hearts and make Iva win. If not, crash in the Semi!

I have to admit: I love Oculis Videre, but this is also kind of a bop. Imagine both this and the Roop in Rotterdam! Their dance moves are about the same.

Like, the complete dream scenario would be this, The Roop, and Rein from Norway. Amazing and fun!

Maybe not my favorite, but it is a nice fun song with a groovy mood

So interesting to see a small country generating so many good artists and songs, just like Malta, Albania, Czech Republic, etc
