Estonia’s selection process for Eurovision 2020 kicked off earlier this week with six acts advancing from the first semi-final to the grand final. However, the Eesti Laul 2020 line-up would not be complete without a further batch of qualifiers from the second semi-final, set to be held this coming Saturday.

It has been a number of months since we first heard the 24 songs that will be battling it out for the right to represent Estonia in Rotterdam. And now it’s time to take a look at who you want to advance from the second semi.

We asked you to vote for your favourites, and the results are in!

Jaagup Tuisk is your favourite to win semi-final two of Eesti Laul 2020

He is one of the bookies’ favourites to win the entire national selection, and now Jaagup Tuisk has proven to be a favourite among readers as well

Overall, we counted a total of 2,793 votes, with the “Beautiful Lie” singer amassing over 27% of the total votes cast (766 to be specific).

Jaagup is a fresh face when it comes to Eesti Laul, with the 2020 edition of the national selection serving as his debut into the world of Eurovision. Nevertheless, the 2001-born singer is no stranger to a big stage, having competed in the Estonian versions of Got Talent and Searching for a Star.

We’ll have to wait until Saturday’s show, however, in order to find out whether our readers’ favourite lives up to the hype and expectation.

Taking second place in our poll is another Eesti Laul debutante by the name of SHIRA. Singing a slow, yet thought-provoking number, the Estonian songstress received a respectable 549 votes, putting her just shy of 20% of the total votes cast.

Rounding out the top three is someone who is becoming a familiar name at the Estonian national selection as of recent – Uku Suviste. After a successful run on The Voice Russia, as well as a commendable second place finish at last year’s edition of Eesti Laul, Uku is back to take it one step further. Receiving 295 votes, or just over 10% of the vote, he sits firmly within the top 3; definitely putting him in contention for a good run at the competition.

Taking the remaining results into account, our readers want to see Traffic, INGER, and Merilin Mälk qualify for the grand final on February 29th.

Poll results: Who should win semi-final two of Estonia’s Eesti Laul 2020?

  1. Jaagup Tuisk – Beautiful Lie 27.43% (766 votes)
  2. SHIRA – Out In Space 19.66% (549 votes)

  4. Traffic – Üks Kord Veel 7.55% (211 votes)
  5. INGER – Only Dream 6.48% (181 votes)
  6. Merilin Mälk – Miljon Sammu 6.19% (173 votes)

Total Votes: 2,249

Eesti Laul 2020: Rules

As per usual, the Estonian national selection will be divided across three shows: two semi-finals held on 13th and 15th February respectively, as well as a grand final taking place on 29th February. Twelve songs will battle it out in each semi-final with the top six from each show advancing to the final at the end of the month.

The results of the first four qualifiers will be calculated through a 50/50 combination of votes from the general public and a jury of music professionals. The final two spots will be decided via a second round of voting, comprising solely of a televote.

In the final, the winning song will be selected after two rounds of voting. The first session will comprise of a combination of jury and public voting in order to shortlist three songs to progress to the dramatic superfinal, where the Estonian public will be called upon for a final time to elect their representative in the Netherlands this May.

I think Merilin Mälk is really underrated. She’s a very close second to Jaagup in streams and has nearly 350k views on YouTube. She’s amazing live and definitely a contender to win

Like I’ve said before there’s not really a song I LOVE in this selection this year, there’s no reall song I hate(well there’s one but let’s not focus on the negatives okay), I do enjoy Merilin’s and Uudo’s songs the most in this semi. Jaagup’s song is great as well but honestly I just don’t like ballads like that(The Netherlands though an awesome winner just wasn’t mine as I don’t actually actively seek it out to listen) so if he wins I’d be okay as it’s a great vocal performance just to me is not something I’d wanna listen to… Read more »

Uudo Sepp is really underrated. The most touching song this year and he has strong and unique voice.

100% Jaagup. Not even a question. He could make top five in Rotterdam if he’s able to capture the sound of his song live as well as he does on the studio cut.

Also! Someone asked me yesterday if I knew about song release dates for internal selection countries, and we just found out another one! Mark your calendars, folks, or perhaps set a Bern Notice, as Switzerland will be releasing their entry on March 4th.

I didn’t sure he make top-10 either. Remember 2016?
