Depi Evratesil 2020 voting

This year, the result of Depi Evratesil was once again determined by both jury and televote. However, this year, the jury was comprised of both a panel of international jurors as well as an Armenian panel.

Athena Manoukian was the resounding favourite of both juries. The international jury awarded her 60 points while the Armenian jury gave her 58 points. Athena only placed third with the televote, receiving a further 50 points. Vladimir Arzumanyan and ERNA were preferred by the public, who received 60 and 55 points respectively. However, it wasn’t enough to dethrone the Greek-Armenian goddess.

Armenian Eurovision royalty was also on the scene. Iveta Mukuchyan was on hand to provide some advice for the contestants and the winner ahead of their Eurovision journey. She also performed a medley of her music, including “Rich Bitch” and “LoveWave”. Junior Eurovision contestant Karina Ignatyan was also featured in the show. The contestants all combined for a collaborative performance of the reigning Eurovision winning song, “Arcade”.

Athena Manoukian will perform in the second semi-final of Eurovision 2020 in Rotterdam on May 14, looking to secure a spot for Armenia in the grand final for the first time since 2017.

What do you think of the results? Did the right song win tonight? How will Armenia go at Eurovision in May? Let us know in the comments below.

I get Real Housewives vibes from this. I was half expecting Kandi Burruss to walk out. Though it’s more style than substance it’s still enjoyable and a nice change of genre/pace.

Etnic hip hop. Quite a combination.
Its a good song and its quite catchy. What is ruining it for me is the live performance. Nothing on Athena, but the sound is below standard. In Rotterdam this will be better. Also the staging should be changed. This performance reminds me of an american trashy pop star.
I hope they improve from here and qualify for the final.

I’m afraid Athena won’t be able to turn the tide for Armenia. I was intriged by those 5 or 6 notes in the beginning of the song but they soon got annoying and overly present throughout the song. The song has not enough body for me to go through to the final on Saturday. It’s also a shame the vocals are inaudible and even sound prerecorded (though i assume they are not). Athena may be a good singer, I simply can’t tell by this song. From the county that gave me one of my all time favourite songs ‘Jan Jan’,… Read more »

People want Armenia to send something ethnic or something in Armenian yet when they do that they never vote for it but complain about how it sounds the same as every Armenian entry..
This is the most interesting Armenia has been in years! This is going to do fine, really well even! Downvote if you vote, I don’t care..

I honestly hate this song. It is so annoying and pretentious. Vocals are okey though. It’s not like Armenia had other options. Tokionine was underwhelming and nobody seem to like Agop’s “Butterflies” (best song in the bunch, not that good performance).

Anyway, Armenia will now prepare an oversexualized performance with tons of fire and fireworks to make this work in May. And viewers will eat it up and vote for her.

Very American, very bling, very ‘lets watch the Kardashian”s kind of thing,’ nothing special , not sure how this will do , either tops or bottom. I don’t see it as a winner. She can sing for sure, but give them credit they are trying something we have not heard often in Eurovision.

Not to be confused with Cardassians. When Cardassians put chains on you, remember: “There… are… four… lights!” 😉

Ugh
Stylish production but lyrically nothing.
Typical Armenian entry, looks good, but nothing really there, all fur coat and no knickers.
They try this every year, but last year it didn’t work, we’ll see what happens this year though, they’re in a easy enough semi they should qualify.

What’s this unnecessary hate towards her and Armenian entries in general? People literally downvoting every single comment supporting this entry. Too much negativity going on here, gotta exclude myself from this narrative

Well, Athena is a decent performer and the song is not that terrible, although it sounds like a rip-off of hundred other songs. But that’s all – the lyrics are awful, the staging is laughable (a golden throne really???) and the performance is so predictably cheap. This will most likely crash and burn in Rotterdam and Armenia should reconsider holding national finals, because it doesn’t seem to work for them.

Apart from sexist comments, some conservative as** are trippin’ , it’s fun to read, lol!
“That is Armenia, it has to be “ethnic”! Because that’s our stereotype! How she dares to get out of box?!”
I hope she doesn’t change anything, especially to not make “ethnic” rewamp. Go girl <3

People are just hatin because they want Armenia to send a “Walking Out” or “Qami” so people can say how much they enjoy the song but never vote for it. This is exactly what Armenia needed – she’s bringing it.

Lyricist: hey Athena, I got a song for you
Athena: what’s it called
Lyricist: chains on you
Athena: how’s it go
Lyricist: chains on you
Athena: and then what?
Lyricist: that’s all I got
Athena: put me in a sparkly bodysuit, give me a throne, shirtless dancers and I’ll shake it for 3 minutes and no one will notice

Even i don’t like the song very much i think it was armenia’s only option to qualify in the final……. Athena has something magnetic and concerning the fact that she participates to this year’s likely weak semi final i find it very likely she is gonna qualify…… And with a good revamp and professional performance she could be a dark horse like Eleni Foureira but with a places just in top 10-15 the best possible result…

Not sure what to think. It’s a bit Beyonce-ish and very american-ish. It’s good but I like when countries send songs that represent their culture. I’m not sure this is something’s that is representative of amenian culture and tradition

First, my passport does not determine my opinion. There have been a lot of Armenian entries that I have liked and openly expressed it in the past years. So please read my previous comments carefully since you’re such a loyal fan. This is extremely offensive that you’re even mentioning my nationality over a simple comment. Second, I’d like to ask you to use the scroll down function of your browser to see the other negative reactions. We can’t all be Azerbaijanis. My comment was not even a negative one tho. I just don’t think this entry is a qualifier.

Oh, and I’ve voted for Sirusho. Apart from that, some of my favorite entries have been Apricot Stone and Aram MP3 (Even though I strongly dislike his personality). 🙂

And yet here you are, proving my point. If you can’t be honest with me, have the balls to be honest with yourself at least. “I’ve voted for Sirusho” – is the best joke I’ve ever heard. One guy from Azerbaijan once voted for “Jan Jan” back in 2009 and he was arrested for that. BBC filmed a video about it a long time ago.

Cool, I enjoy the song… My main issue with it is the repetitiveness of the song and I dunno it drags on a bit for me at times cause of it so maybe a revamp would help? I’ve seen from commets that apparently they are gonna revamp it to be more ethnic sounding(don’t know if that’s true or not but that sounds promising). I’m a rock/edm kinda guy so pop and ballads aren’t my fav or anything but I do enjoy them at times… and for what this is it’s a enjoyable pop song. Anyways congrats and good luck to… Read more »

Armenia 2019: Song with a strong vocals
Public: Sorry, but it’s not always about the vocals, it’s about the staging, cameras blah blah blah
Armenia 2020: Catchy tramp pop
Public: Sorry, you need to present a song with strong vocals

How about people f off. If you’re not gonna vote for Armenia, you’re not gonna vote even if they send Euphoria.

When you’re right, you’re right. Eurovision fans just need someone to hate, that’s all. And Armenia is always their victim. In the past they complained about diaspora voting, and I do even remember debates on that topic here. Both 2018 and 2019 showed everyone that diaspora thing doesn’t exist anymore and Armenia is competing on equal terms.

Can’t remember a single song of this style in Eurovision history. It won’t win but there are enough fans of this kind of modern American music to make it to the final. Great to see songs of completely different genres already in the 2020 lineup. This is why I love Eurovision.
