Melodifestivalen 2020 is heating up and tonight the third semi-final took place in Luleå.

Two acts advanced direkt til final. They were Mohombi with “Winners” and Mariette with “Shout It Out.”

Two further acts made it the duels of Andra Chansen. They were Drängarna — “Piga och dräng” and Anis Don Demina — “Vem är som oss”.

Melodifestivalen 2020: Semi-Final 3 winners

Mohombi with “Winners”

He made a splash during Melodifestivalen 2019. And tonight Mohombi was back in action with “Winners”. With a title like that you might accuse a person of counting eggs before they hatch. But tonight, aided by a disco stone circle, Mohombi proved he can deliver on the song’s ambitious title. At times this performance did feel hemmed in, but there’s two weeks to sort it before the final at Friends.

Mariette with “Shout It Out”

She’s had singers on bungie chors and dementor backing dancers. But tonight Mariette switched things up and put her artistry centre stage. “Shout It Out” is anthemic arena rock and it came alive with a stunning light show. Mariette also seemed more relaxed than in past technical innovation driven performances. Comparisons to Coldplay seem well made, but Mariette is her own woman, and on stage tonight she shone.

Melodifestivalen 2020: Semi Final 3 Andra Chansen Advancers

Drängarna with “Piga och dräng”

The generational bridge between Timoteij and Hasse Andersson. Drängarna advancing felt likely when we heard the snippets and it became inevitable once they performed tonight. This is heaps of fun. Because among the stylish pop offerings, bombastic arena anthems and technologically advanced stageshows sometimes you just need an Irish jig. At this stage you’d think they’ll be in with a fighting chance at Andra Chansen.

Anis Don Demina

This felt like (Mackle)more of what we’ve seen and heard before. Thumping party beats. Quick speed Swedish rapping. And dubious group choreography. That said, as the result shows, these Swedish party songs have an audience, and no doubt this will storm the Spotify Top 50 overnight. As for overall further success in the competition, it depends on the duel.

Melodifestivalen 2020: Semi-Final 3 eliminated acts

Three acts however missed out.

They are Faith Kakembo, Amanda Aasa and Albin Johnsén.

Melodifestivalen 2020: Semi-Final 3 running order

View this post on Instagram

If it was up to you, Mariette and Mohombi would go direkt to the final. Meanwhile, Faith Kakembo and Drängarna would have to battle it out in Andra Chansen. After counting a total of 809 votes, Mariette came out on top of the poll. Her song “Shout It Out” received 261 votes, which is 32.26% of the total. If Mariette does secure one of the top two places in the semi-final, she would become the first Melfest participant to ever go straight to the final with all of their first four entries. Mohombi is your other winner of the semi-final, picking up 218 votes (26.95%). After finishing second in his semi-final last year, it seems you’re hoping he can do a similar thing this year. The “Winners” singer also topped last night’s Melodifestivalklubben audience poll. #melfest #melodifestivalen #melfest2020 #eurovision #esc2020

I just watched it today and I mean… Whaaat? Faith Kakembo was shoulder above the rest and she was eliminated! Do Swedes have ears? Mariette was okay and Mohombi was average at best. Faith’s vocals and song dance circles around them. I mean, this is certainly the biggest disappointment in Sweden thus far.

One of the best songs in the whole Melodifestivalen 2020 was kicked out into 5th place . Beautiful song, Shame it didn’t go anywhere, this would have done very well in the final. Faith Kakembo — “Crying Rivers”.

Dotter will win. I am sure. It is the most memorable song, the artist is going through as sincere and sings well and the staging fits the song. Anna’s song is dated. The rest is great. But the song is weak. I especially dislike the instrumental part. It is so bland.

All the songs are good in audio, SVT made a big mistake this year, not realising the live versions don’t actually match up the songs you would hear on the radio. Perhaps its the 10 year jinx for Sweden, 10 years ago they didn’t qualify. At this rate they might not again. The best songs so far are Anna , Mariette and the Mamas. If they send Anna i do hope she qualifies.

Let’s hope that if Sweden doesn’t qualify it won’t be with Anna again… but I don’t think Sweden will stay in semi final. They can definitely fail out of the top 10 but they should go through.

I don’t know why the critics are negative with Mariette’s song. It is actually very good. Mahombi was a tad weak in my opinion. This will go nowhere at Eurovision.

Oh, I’m quite disappointed with Melodifestivalen this year. Anyway it’s still Anna Bergendahl vs. Dotter apparently, waiting for Hanna Ferm next Saturday. In any case it seems very likely that a female artist will be finally representing Sweden again, first time since 2014!

I watched this one back very late, due to the other finals that were on. My goodness, why did Faith finish 5th? Nice song from Mohombi, and Mariette was okay. Strange Andra Chansen selection, however.
Generally SF3 is usually the weak link at Melfest anyhow. When the host Lina Hedlund produces a pitch-perfect performance in 1930s musical theatre style and blows the real competition out of the water, I start to be concerned.

At the contray, I want a ton better interval acts. Everything should be on top and the show should be filled with surprises. It’s entertainment. The competition is just one element of the show.

Lmao at the journalists who said that Crying Rivers was « probably the song of this edition of Melodifestivalen »… In any case this SF was bad. But I really enjoyed the staging for the beginning of Mariette’s song, until the first chorus. Superb.

I have lost Faith tonight *cries a river over her*
This song sounds like a Eurovision winner but Swedes once again proved they are in for soulless, blatantly insincere plastic.
I hope I die tonight.

Seems like the Swedes got bored of this semi-final so they AC’d two novelty acts over Crying Rivers smh. If we go by music only, Mariette had the best track. People complaining about her staging being empty..well look at John last year it was just lighting and the Mamas but he finished 5th at ESC so anything is possible!

SVT ran ouf ot money before their 7th victory and it shows. The riduculous set is curtains and light columns, mariete was basically going across the stage and probably they revamped the props of Armenia 2018 for Mohombi. Nah, thank god for Dotter and her lights.

I’m okay with these results… not really in love with any of the songs(even my favs) hoping there’s a song coming up in the other semis that I’ll love but as of now… Anna and Dotter are still my overall faves?(though I’m not in love with them as I can’t recall what they sound like). Anyways congratulations and good luck to the final qualifiers as well as congratulations and good luck to the Andra Chansen qualifiers.

I honestly can’t remember any of the songs from tonight.. But it’s not like we Swedes expect any of them to win.
I also don’t get what you saw in Faith. She was decent at best with an average song! Mariette only got through because of name, no way is that standard Laleh rip off the best one..

Predictable results, but in a bad week who would have guessed otherwise. Everyone is so sad and angry over Faith, but I sure as h*** don´t get it. Nice song, but to sing it well she needed to hit the big notes more clearly. And those fell flat. In a song that is more of a sway along those flat notes both take you out of the zone and the chance for some big notes are lost too. Any other week people would just shruged their shoulders over Faith, but now when there are other artists some feel are weak… Read more »

I really love and follow melodifestivalen. This semi has to be the weakest since the revamp of the contest. What on earth was that? Mariette songs is even worse than her previous ones and mohombi had a dated song with the staging of Armenia in 2018. Lets pretend this semi never happened

“Crying Rivers” might have been my favourite song of this year’s Mello so far, it was delicate, melancholic, soothing, almost dream-like and Faith’s vocal interpretation was just astonishing. But you can’t always get want you want, after all. Congratulations to the qualifiers.

No Björkman is not the one who chooses all of the songs. All submissions go through SVT and they’ll pick a certain amount of songs to go through to a jury of several people (from within the industry) who then decide on 14 acts they prefer. Then a jury from Melodifestivalen’s editorial staff gets to choose 14 more songs – either songs from the general submissions that are left or a few other songs that have been sent in from songwriters for a specific artists. I swear people on here thinks Björkman has more power than he actually does –… Read more »

Petra Mede is the best they have ever had and will not be surpassed anytime soon I think. Christer Björkman for goood or bad has been there too long and whether he has stepped down or not will continue to cast a shadow and unfair influence over the contest for years to come. His legacy is to make the contest less and less about the songs and more about the personalities and thus it ever was.

We have not had good hosts for Melodifestivalen in at least 8 years or so, I can understand why you would find her professional and hilarious when you dont have anything to compare with. Even the swedish people give low ratings judging the hosts almost every year. But its alright, nothing wrong with different opinions.
Ive wanted Björkman gone for so many years and im happy he will be gone soon. Unfortunately his replacement seems like a copy of him and helps him pick the acts etc so not much will change when he leaves :/

Worst songs win at the worst Melodifestivalen yet. Many sexual favours must have occurred for that pile of crap to get through. The farmers and Faith kekambo were easily the best plus the rapper guy who was at least upbeat. The two that went through tot he final were boring and predictable. So a fix.

Erik

Nope. That’s not how it works.
It takes two to tango so to speak.
If you really need something and let someone abuse you, well then you get raped.

If you wanted to do it in the first place, then you wouldn’t need a favour for it.

Nothing “works” like this except sexual abuse and rape.

If you have fun from it, well then you’re already getting something out of it. You don’t sacrifice anything and you just do it out of consent.

If you DON’T get something out of, but need to trade your consent with some favour. Well, that act is now your “payment”.

And rape and sexual abuse is no joke to me. Maybe it is to you. I’m sorry if your rape joke got ruined.
