They say always the bridesmaid never the bride.
But if Catarina Sardu has her way, she’ll make the transition on Saturday night.
That’s because Sunstroke Project‘s former backing bridesmaid is in contention to represent Moldova at Eurovision 2020.
Last Saturday, Sandu passed the audition round and she’s ready to slay the final of the contest.
And ahead of her performace, the wiwibloggs team caught up with Sunstroke Project Member Serj Ialovitski and Catarina’s co-songwriter Nikos Sofis.

Serj Ialovitski of SunStroke Project knows all about Catarina Sandu’s talents:
“Catarina has a great voice and I like the sound production. Catarina has passion in her eyes and this is important, and of course, she is a real professional”.
He’s also a fan of her song and told us he thinks it is, “very catchy.”
Nikos Sofis interview
Nikos Sofis has 20 national final entry songwriting credits to his name.
“Die For You” is a change from his past entries for Moldova’s national final:
“What makes this song stand above the rest? I guess it just really clicks with people and their preferences. I came 2nd and 3rd in Moldova in 2018 and 2019, respectively, with dark songs, but people kept telling me to write lighter lyrics. That’s what I did, with a pinch of spice, and here I am.”
When Sofis and his co-songwriters thought about artists, Catarina offered the “whole package”:
“Basically what convinced me about Catarina was her incredible voice. She is an artist I had in my mind for a while, but the right song wasn’t just there yet. Catarina has an incredible voice, she can own the stage, she just has the whole package needed which I imagined for this song. She always was looking for that one song, and I am very glad she found that in “Die For You”.

Sandu’s entry for the Moldovan selection for Eurovision 2020 was revealed last month. The songwriters are Dimitri Stassos, Jennifer Aalto Kallunki, Nikos Sofis, and the song’s lyrics talk unconditional love.
The song participated in the live audition round on 1 February and earned Sandu a spot in the final of the selection.

I like the song but it’s surely not one of the frontrunners, right?

Moldova will not have Romania on SF2 to send them 24 free points. This song is too generic and the vocals not on point on some parts. (thanks to the pre recorded backing vocals to save her on the chorus). Moldova needs to send something memorable if they want to qualify this year like was DoReDoS two years ago. And only Moldovita fits this request on their national selection this year.
