On Monday, March 9, San Marino will announce Senhit‘s entry for Rotterdam.

The winner of the so-called digital battle — an online contest where fans from all over the world were asked to choose their favorite song between “Freaky!” and “Obsessed” — will then represent the tiny Republic in Eurovision 2020.

Ahead of her second attempt at representing San Marino at Eurovision, Senhit told wiwibloggs why she decided to launch a digital battle to choose her entry.

“I’ll be happy either way, they are two very strong songs. This is why I’m confused and let the fans choose.”

The results of our informal poll show that it is difficult to tip the scales one way or the other.

“Freaky!” is the song you want Senhit to sing at Eurovision 2020

We launched our flash poll on March 7, and have counted a total of 2,457 votes since then. The funky disco track “Freaky!” won by a very slim margin: 1,252 votes, or exactly 50.96% of all those cast.

Reacting to the song for the first time, our William said:

“Freaky! I’m living for this title. This is funky. It’s more playful than ‘Obsessed’, fun, upbeat. Very throwback. Many people will love this. If Bruno Mars was a woman… Brunette Mars! You can remember this hook — Freaky! Freaky! Freaky!”

“I can see staging for this, you can see her dancing, moving, popping. My lord, this is hilarious, in a good way! This fits Senhit’s personality. She’s very upbeat, bubbly, in control and empowered.”

“Obsessed”, the English version of Senhit’s single “Un bel niente”, came second. The electropop love song scored 1,205 votes, which amounts to 49.04% of the result.

This is how William commented on the track:

“‘Stand by’ this is not. It’s vintage but modern, it has energy, movement, rhythm. I hear it at the club, I hear it at the bar, I hear it at Eurovision. Very likeable, Spotify friendly. This could be on the radio, in Italy, in England. Such good vibrations goin’ on”.

“Synthpop realness. It’s such good energy, it’s not what I expected to be honest. When it comes the bridge I see in my head lots of dancing movements, there is gonna be visual drama. It’s like a tsunami takin’ over me”.

Do the results match your taste? Which song do you predict will represent San Marino?

What if she actually ends up with Cleopatra? This online selection could have just been a troll.

Do you guys ever notice that you’re a lot more positive about acts (no matter how bad they are) that are willing to do exclusive interviews and meetups with you? Could just be a coincidence…

Just saying, you’d be foolish to count San Marino out this year. You might be in for a real shock. That’s all I’m gonna say (since, if I’m being real, that’s all I know).

If San Marino qualifies this year (which I doubt) it will only be because it’s in the weaker semi final. Also it seems that every single year San Marino always ends up in the weaker semi final at Eurovision.

i’n glad, while “obsessed” sounded flat, “freaky” has great performance potential

Not impressed, Freaky is, in retrospective, a decent contender.
GO SAN MARINO

I like them both. With good staging, this could be a very good year for San Marino. (Then again, a good year for San Marino would be qualifying, and a great year would be finishing higher than 19th).

Also, does anyone think the way she sings “freaky, freaky, freaky” sounds a little like “It’s Tricky” by Run-DMC? (“Tricky, tricky, tr-r-ricky!”)

Freaky starts weak but ends strong and obsession starts strong and ends weak, so Freaky is the better?

They’re both equally as weak and stand no chance at qualification

Yep. People just randomly started to love San Marino and maybe it’s also because this year has been a disappointment.
