Victoria Bulgaria 2020

Eurovision fans worried extensively about the fate of Bulgaria’s VICTORIA after it was announced that broadcaster BNT would have to end its sponsorship contract that financed the entry. Worry no more! Victoria will again represent Bulgaria with a new song as the sponsorship continues.

VICTORIA will represent Bulgaria at Eurovision 2021

Bulgarian broadcaster BNT is proud to announce that the 22-year-old Varna native Victoria Georgieva will represent her country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021.

In a press release, Victoria says:

“I am so proud to represent Bulgaria at Eurovision 2021! I am grateful to BNT and Ligna Group for believing in me and giving me a second chance and to iCard for supporting me! Congratulations to Blas Cantó, Gjon’s Tears, Efendi, Jeangu Macrooy, Stefania, Hooverphonic, Go_A and Tornike Kipiani, who will also represent their countries at Eurovision 2021! I hope all other fellow 2020 artists will also be allowed by their broadcasters to have their time to shine on the Eurovision stage in 2021.”

She won’t be singing “Tears Getting Sober”

At first, it was unknown whether the class of 2020 would be able to sing their song at Eurovision 2021. Ultimately, the Reference Group of the Eurovision Song Contest decided against this. It would namely breach the “1 September rule”, which disallows songs that were published before the September prior to the contest to prevent unfairness in exposure.

This unfortunately means that Victoria will have to drop her song “Tears Getting Sober”. She acknowledges the pain of that in her statement:

“Today is a bittersweet day – I can’t hide that the decision to not allow us to use our 2020 songs made me really sad. “Tears Getting Sober” is the first project where I had such a big role – from the songwriting to the concepts for the music video and the staging. Many people have invested endless hours in this project and we will all need some time to deal with this decision.”

However, she is also looking ahead to projects that are coming up.

“On the bright side – I am looking forward to perform live around Europe soon and to meet you all! Can’t wait to share my new music with you through the spring and the summer and hopefully release my first EP in September! And don’t forget about my online concert on 28 March at 19 CET on eurovision.icard.com. Love you all, stay safe!”

I’m so glad Victoria will represent Bulgaria again next year. She was robbed of this years winning song. I hope her 2021 song is as lovely as Tears getting sober. This song is on my mind constantly, its probably the most haunting and memorable song I ever heard xx

i wonder if there will be a lot of national selections similar to how the songs of roxen, senhit, or or eden were selected for the already confirmed artists next year. that would be so great since that system seemed to have good results this year

My personal bet is a Poland, Czech Republic and Malta going for it with Alicja, Benny and Destiny. Plus, yeah, Romania and Israel

Here is an Idea : Why don’t all major Eurovision Websites and YouTube Channels connect and vote for their favourite songs like a Eurovision Expert Jury… and they could get their readers and followers to vote in polls and stuff like that to make a massive “televote” and both count 50/50 like in the real Eurovision.. I know that we probably wouldn’t have someone out of the Eurovision bubble, so like the “normal people vote” from those who only watch the final would fall away but at least we would have a kinda “representative winner”.. I would love something like… Read more »

To slightly change the direction. Wiwibloggs when are you going to start Jury votes on all songs. Like many others I really look forward to listening to your opinions. At least then we can have an unofficial winner. Why not poll your followers and our votes combined with yours would give a fairly reliable top three.

It should be at the discretion of the country itself to chose whether it wants to keep the song. This is a potential winner so why on earth would Bulgaria choose another one. Considering the time and effort that has gone into these songs then it’s the least Eurovision top brass should do for its members.

I’m so happy for her. I hope she can come up with something genuine like Tears getting sober.
For the first time a Milanov song didn’t come across as generic or plastic for me. And I wanna think she being part of the writing was part of that.
It wasn’t just buy a song or a reject.
She and Gjon have a some tough work but I trust them and both deserve to do something big at Eurovision.

I’m so glad that she will be back! Let’s hope that her song next year will be equally good.

Meanwhile in Lithuania – our head of delegation said that he fully supports the idea to skip NF next year and send THE ROOP to ESC2021 if only the group are willing to go 🙂

If this is true, wow that is very generous and I wouldn’t blame them for it. It’s the first time Lithuania had a really popular act for Eurovision that transcended borders (and it was actually the most popular eurovision song on the official before Little Big dropped their entry). I wouldn’t blame the broadcaster for holding onto the Roop for next year if they really want to win.

Well, the Roop certainly want to represent Lithuania next year. Let’s see if LRT agrees with them. I know Lithuania uses a national final, but I wonder if it could be revamped to be used to select a new song for the Roop as we saw for Romania and Israel this year? I wouldn’t be surprised if there will be a lot of “one artist-multiple songs” NFs in order to honor the 2020 winners and be able to provide new songs for them in 2021. Got make good out of a bad situation.

I can foresee the same time next year, wiwibloggs will be flooded with votings: Do you prefer Victoria/Blas Cantó/Gjon’s Tears/Efendi/Jeangu Macrooy/Stefania/Hooverphonic/Go_A/Tornike Kipiani’s songs last year or this year?

So glad she’s back, though I’m sad she can’t use her 2020 song. That composition was pure magic, it reminded me of classic ballads from the 60s, just put through a modern lens. Really interested to see what she comes up with this time.

OMG same wishes Roxen, Little Big, Eden Alene, Destiny ,the Roop,Ben Dolic and Elisa. And also Alicja, Tom Leeb and Montaigne can find better songs so lowkey hoping for them as well… But Roxen is my number one pick if I had to choose.

Good for her. There’s no reason or excuse for any of the artists that get re-selected now to not do well. They have an entire year to come up with one song. While I do think her entry was among the decent ones, I don’t think it’s that hard to come up with something equal or better.

this makes me think that in 2021 we’ll hardly see any dreaded revamps!

Mr Vanilla Bean

Hopefully. We can pretty much be sure it’ll be another Milanov song, at least he doesn’t do revamps. But I’m sure countries will nevertheless keep on releasing last minute. In this year’s final phase of revelations, I couldn’t even find the time to keep track of everything. Luxury problems. Now, there’s time. lol

She has no individuality. Her entry was straight up an impersonation of another artist. LITERALLY

There’s hardly anything original anymore and there hasn’t been for a while. The difference here is that Victoria is borrowing from a newer sound and artist that makes it more noticeable. That doesn’t make it plagiarism.
Take Arcade for example (or pretty much every song these days), it’s great but it’s hardly “original”.

I don’t think they would win this year at all. Kristian Kostov was much better and his song. Iceland, Lithuania, Sweden and The Netherlands were far better this year
