Over Wednesday and Thursday last week, Estonia’s ERR revealed the 24 acts for Eesti Laul 2021. And with a line-up that includes several past Eurovision stars and numerous national selection veterans, fans are already chomping at the bit, even though the competition itself won’t kick off until the new year.
So while Tallinn gears up to host the iconic national final across three weekends next spring, we want to know which of the artists you are most excited for. Yes, the songs are yet to be released but that hasn’t stopped us from checking out the vast back catalogues of all the competitors.
Poll: Which Eesti Laul 2021 act are you the most excited for?
The headlines have been dominated by the five former Eurovision stars.
Top of the list is Uku Suviste. The Eesti Laul 2020 winner was given a wildcard to the semi-finals after Eurovision’s cancellation in the spring.
The next most recent returnee is Koit Toome. Along with Laura, he sang “Verona” in 2017. Alas, despite being a strong fan favourite, the entry failed to reach the final. He also represented the Baltic nation in 1998 with “Mere lapsed”. Then he came 12th.
Jüri Pootsmann returns to the competition for the first time since 2016, when he went to Stockholm with “Play”. Eurovision 2014’s Tanja is also back. The “Amazing” songstress last appeared in the national final in 2019 singing “High Heels In The Neighbourhood”.
Also in the mix is Ivo Linna from Eurovision 1996. He helped secure Estonia its first top-five result with “Kaelakee hääl”.
There’s also plenty of national final alums. They include Kéa who tried her luck at Eesti Laul 2016 with “Lonely Boy”. Tuuli Rand had two songs in the 2013 final: a duet with Teele Viira and another as a part of the band Söörömöö. The 2020 grand finalist Egert Milder will sing “Free Again”.
We will also see a performance from Sissi — daughter of Estonia’s Eurovision winner Dave Benton. She made her Eesti Laul debut in 2019 with “Strong” which placed fourth in the grand final.

Great roster for Eesti Laul this season! 5 former winners including the daughter of an ESC winner, I’m really stoked to see the names behind some of my favorite EL songs over the years back. Especially Kea, Nika & Karl Killing.
I was waiting with great excitement for Jüri Pootsmann’s song, but it is a ballad with a twist/change in the middle, I was hoping for something more rhythmic. While Tanja’s entry is a party song and it also seems that Suured tüdrukud will come out with a banger, written by Koit Toome. Koit’s own song is a ballad, but with very high notes, so interesting. Am also waiting to listen to Egert Milder (who apparently got even bigger sing-a-long than “Georgia (On my mind)” and Kadri Voorand with her fantastic voice.

No, all songs will be out on 5 December, but artists have talked about their songs in Estonian press of course. 🙂

Egert Milder was definitely on my mind last year, he has an edge to him which makes him stand out for me. I’m excited to hear what he comes back with.

I would like to hear something in Estonian finally coming back since 2013. But Uku also deserves to come back, only if he has a really good song of course, hopefully better than his winning one…
Whilst I would expect Uku to be the likeliest winner of any 2020 acts that have to partake anew in selection processes (the margin by which What Love Is won, and his long running and oft awarded career), my eyes are on Redel, who involve the same people behind the infamous Winny Puhh, the missing link of LORDI, Hatari and TISM.
