Eurovision winners: 1970 to 1979
For the most part, Eurovision winners in the 1970s fell into one of two categories. Female soloists with ballads or mixed-gender pop groups. Ireland, Monaco, Luxembourg (twice in a row) and France all won with the first formula. Meanwhile, Sweden, The Netherlands and the United Kingdom all took victory with the second. The decade ended with a two-in-a-row for Israel in which it sent a disco number and an earnest peace song.

I knew ABBA(they’re iconic) wayyy before I heard of Eurovision but Anne Marie David would always be my favourite Eurovision winner ever

Hallelujah will always be relevant for any occasion.
The golden age of the Eurovision! So hard to choose! As a gay kid I grew up on Waterloo, as Israeli I grew up on Hallelujah, but my ? goes to Anne-Marie David.
I went with ABBA and both of Israel’s. “Waterloo” not only served as ABBA’s breakthrough onto the international pop music scene, it was one of the first of many hits the group would enjoy throughout their career. Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus are regarded as two of the greatest songwriters in pop music history, writing just about all the band’s own songs (along with their manager Stig Anderson, who co-wrote some of ABBA’s lyrics in the early part of their career, including on “Waterloo”) in an age where pop music was often either manufactured bubblegum pop or written by outside… Read more »
And this is the time when i realise that many of my favorite winners songs comes from the 70’s… i cannot chose just one, at least 8 are among my favourites
So many good songs. Its difficult to choose just one. One of the best decades for sure.

What a great group of winners the 70’s had! Even those few that could sound too ingenuous out of the context of the decade pass the test of time with ease thanks to charming execution. Voted for “Tu te reconnaitras” and “Waterloo” because those are the ones I love the most to revisit. But I was here watching all the videos and having a lot of fun with “Ding-A-Dong”, “Save Your Kisses for Me” and “A-Ba-Ni-Bi” one more time.
OMG… Will you believe I voted for ALL of them? In this decade I would honestly say there are no “Diggi Loo Diggi Lei” or “Rock Me”… each winner is epic!!! “All Kinds of Everything” is so candid and Sound of Music-esque, “Un Banc…” delights you with its parallel between Serverine’s singing and her backing singers’. “Après Toi” is a classic; it was a radio hit in my country back in the day. “Tu Te Reconnaîtras” is impressive by Anne Marie David’s dramatic and convincing performance. “Waterloo” is a catapult to music history. “Ding-a-Dong” has simple lyrics but that beat… Read more »
Call me basic, but even with a bunch of my favorite winners in this decade, it’s 100% Waterloo for me.
By far the best Eurovision decade, my all time top 3 all from the 1970s

I love Hallelujah its one of a kind.
sorry bur after 2019 i cant listen to ‘hallelujah’ ever again… loved it at first but it has been wayyyy overused and overplayed.
my favorite is luxembourg ‘73 and monaco ‘71
Sweden 1974 without any doubts.
It still makes me laugh that the UK jury gave Waterloo “sorry, zero points” yet people still bang on about it what seems 100 years later. Makes me wish Ring Ring had represented Sweden in 1973!

Waterloo definitely. A great pop, fun and innovative song. The 1974 runner-up Sì was also pretty good.
Any answer apart from 1974 is invalid.
