This year at wiwibloggs we are celebrating the festive season with a series of different polls. For the next few days, we’re going to stuff your stockings with a selection of Eurovision votes. Consider this a unique riff on the classic “Twelve Days of Christmas” carol.
Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, you can join us and let us know your thoughts for each and every poll. Today’s question — Who is your favourite third-place Eurovision act of the 2000s?
Eurovision third-place entries: 2000 to 2009
Many countries took home bronze in the 2000s. But none more than Greece. The Hellenic Republic secured third spot in 2001, 2004 and 2008. Russia also became rather comfy in this position, finishing there twice in 2003 and 2007. Others to take the second runner-up slot included Latvia, Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Azerbaijan. You’ll notice that while the poll covers a time span of ten years, it features 11 acts. That’s because there was a tie for third in 2002 between the United Kingdom and Estonia. A tie-breaker was not used to separate the two.

The best one: winners and runners-up were worst that year in 2000s, it’s 2001
The most overrated one: 2004
The worst one: none of them.
Like: United Kingdom, Estonia, Greece 2001 and Russia 2007
Dislike: Russia 2003, Greece 2008 and Azerbaijan
The romanian entry in 2005 is probably one of my favourite from them, but the Azerbaijan entry is one of the most overrated enries from 2009

Loving all the love for Brainstorm
The UK’s 2002 entry is actually one of my favourite UK entries. The held beat in the Choruses I think is very effective in that song. Jessica really nailed the vocal too.
Overall… 2009 and 2001 are very strong. I also liked the craziness of 2000; actually that one could have won that year’s contest.
Would’ve been an OK entry for the UK in most years but for 2002 it was next-level
i really like brainstorm / prata vetra, but “my star” is quite bland. for me, it has to be t.a.t.u. or luminita anghel with aysel being close behind.

It’s great to learn that I have agreed with other 494 voters: Antique’s “Die for You” always teleports me to an everlasting, breezy summer evening at the seaside.

I’ve bought all their albums and turned a couple of friends onto them too over the years.
Nothing can compares to Helena Paparizou with Shirley Clamp doing the chorus. So my vote is definitely fro Antique
Can you do a poll: favourite 5th place in the 2010s? For some reason Suus never get’s an award and I think this performance deserves one 😉
Latvia!! Easy choice in this line up. Only Bosnia comes close for me.
I already voted for “Molitva” and “Lane moje” on these polls, so I’m here to complete my trilogy of favorite Balkan ballads with “Lejla”. 2006 was possibly the only year before 2019 where my two favorite entries made to the top 3 (Lordi, Hari Mata Hari, Mahmood and Duncan). I casted also a vote for Sahlene, because I don’t think she deserves the last place of the poll. And also because I miss pop rock in the contest nowadays.

Latvia 2000 wins this category in heartbeat for me. It’s such a sweet, memorable and evergreen song. It’s my 2000 winner and probably my favorite ESC song of early 2000s. 🙂 Greece 2001 and Bosnia & Herzegovina 2006 are also very good and more than deserving of this title. I also consider Russia 2003 very interesting. It’s dark and frenetic like not many other ESC songs are and I respect that. No, you’re right about 2004. None of Sakis’ eurovision songs have been good. Just trashy songs performed by a flamboyant man in a white singlet.
I feel the same about 2004. It embarasses me and I’m not easily embarassed.
Just to emphasize that I still like Secret Combination. However, looking back I find several other songs in 2008 more deserving of that third spot. SC in a fun and catchy bop, but now I see how some of the lyrics were perhaps a bit juvenile. I prefer Shady Lady, Fuego and Aphrodisiac when it comes to songs with alluring content.
Lejla was miles ahead of the rest of 2006 in terms of quality…

Fair enough, though I’m not entirely sure why
because that song is pure energy. this blend of pop and drum & bass was and still is rather unique. in this case, i don’t even care they couldn’t sing for their lives – to me, that only amplified the message of their song.
we haven’t had anything like it since except for andras kallay-saunders.

‘Come back’ is one of the best pop songs to be performed IMHO on the Eurovision stage.. Probably my fave third place of this decade..
