It looks like the leak flowed in the right direction. Israel’s broadcaster KAN have finally and officially confirmed the three songs that Eden Alene will sing in her Eurovision 2021 national final: “La La Love”, “Ue La La” and “Set Me Free”.
In a Carpool Karaoke style video, filmed alongside Eurovision 2019 co-host Lucy Ayoub, Eden sings snippets of the three songs — the titles of which each consist of three syllables.
Last month Israel revealed nine demos. A public vote, which closed on December 14, selected two of the songs. The third and final song was chosen by a KAN committee. KAN has not revealed which songs made it through which route. Here’s how KAN captioned their reveal video upload:
“Get a first taste: Eden and Lucy sing excerpts of the three songs that went to the grand final — two according to the audience’s choice, and one according to the song’s choice committee. From January 19, voting will open on the site here and you, and only you, will determine which song we will be sent this year to represent us at the Eurovision.”
“These days Eden and the team are working around the clock, in the meantime you are invited to join Eden’s ride with Lucy, which will lead the broadcast of ‘Our Song to Eurovision’ on January 25.”
Voting is set to take place from January 19 to January 24.
“Shoulders” is not among the finalists
When we reported on the leak on December 29, readers on our web site were outraged that “Shoulders” — considered a fan favourite — was not on the list.
KostPiL wrote: “I hope that’s fake news because I wanted Shoulders to win.”
Briekimchi wrote: “This has to be wrong, right? A year after missing out on ‘Roots’, there’s no way that Israel miss out on ‘Shoulders’. I won’t believe it until it’s written down in stone!”
The results of the unofficial poll from Wiwibloggs also put “Shoulders” on top.

I just think this song does not fit Eden’s voice or character and made corrections to her voice but it will not be on stage I hope.
It’s pretty clear Eden is going to have to take this one on her back for it to do well. The songs by themselves are disappointing, especially compared to last year. Shoulders was the only one that stood out.

This feels like Golden boy 2.0 – the fandom cancels these songs as being “cheap and idiotic” (emphsise on La la love),

Not at the begging. Most of the fans cancelled it for being stupid. even Wiwibloggers themselves (watch their reaction back in 2015).
Everything turned when the rehearsals started – it became a fan favorite and at its peak, it was the 9th place in the bookies.
I honestly feel like fans just want to have something to complain about.
I expect it to really shine when it’s sung live with real staging and all.

I can see the parallel with Golden Boy, but there’s a big difference. Golden Boy is totally aware of how silly it’s lyrics are, playing if off as a subtle hapless parody of the genre. It successfully did what Denmark tried to do a year earlier. La La Love doesn’t seem to be a self-aware song. It feels like they were going for a lighthearted song of empowerment, but missed the mark. We’ll hear the revamped version, though.
Also, I never said that La La Love won’t qualify. Catchy songs with dodgy lyrics have done so in the past.
People also justified why they think golden boy is dumb back in 2015.
People said juries will kill it, it’s a cheap commercial for Tel-Aviv, it’s cheesy, it’s dumb, Israel never qualified, We preferred the song from last year..
It’s all valid points, but the song slayed eventually.

I’ve listened to these three songs again and I still think that all of them have issues. Set Me Free is very confusing in it’s message. Is she running away from a toxic boyfriend or mutually ending a loving relationship which turned into a friendship? La La Love is hilariously tone deaf with that chorus. Ue La La’s lyrics are just (pardon my French) gibberish. It’s also a blatant, but very effective promotional song for the Be company. It would do wonders on television during their commercial. So so disappointing. I hope we don’t see a pattern of other returning artists bringing worse songs than their 2020 entries.
This is just another chain in an ongoing comedy of errors whose best punchline will probably be ‘Ue-La-La’ as the final curtain. It’s going to be the perfect mismatch given that one of its co-writers has almost a Million followers on Instagram and a huge inner circle that can be easily led like a herd. The absence of ‘Shoulders’ from the top 3 songs could have been accepted if KAN would release the voting stats for each of the 6 songs left out. It’s understandable that at this stage it can’t divulge details about which song won the online vote, which came second and how many votes the jury’s favorite received. A proper broadcaster would have an external auditing company checking and verifying the voting results. It will be refreshing if they do, but based on past instances – the number of voters and the distribution of the votes have never been released.
Apparently she ‘performed’ a song called ‘Seven Sins’ back in 2019 which was basically a singing infomercial promoting her new collection of sunglasses. At least there was a disclaimer underneath the video. In this year’s case she probably ‘contributed’ the lyrics with her product placements ‘Mon Cheri’, ‘Be-Be-Be’ and probably the other gibberish that pretends to sound French. She’s not credited for lyrics and the music of ‘Seven Sins’. As for Ue-La-La, the full and exact credits will be revealed on the final selection show on January 25th. I only speculated about her contribution to the lazy lyrics.
From the short clips it’s obvious that she likes La La Love the best. With some changes to the lyrics and some revamping it could become a really nice performance but tbh, none of the songs this year could hold up to the ones from last year.
Are they really letting a song that has the lyrics “I don’t need no medication, I want to infect my generation” go into the national final? Oof… tone-deaf, much? But after all, she seems the most ecstatic about performing “La La Love” and not the others so much. So I hope her most-liked song gets through to Rotterdam. “Shoulders” not being in is a bit silly. I mean, it was clearly the best song. In the same way that Eden made “Roots” completely authentic and her own last year, I thought she could do the same with Shoulders.
Eden will be great, of course, but as with “Feker Libi”, I’ll probably rank it decently because of Eden, not because the song is that good.

You are judgindg 3 songs that still are only demos… I agree with you that the process is a mess, BUT we know Israel. We know how they change the song several times before Eurovision. So, stop drama, and let her work with these demos… UE lala for example, we only heard 2min!! And la la love, probly will change some coronavirus lyrics. Let’s wait and see.
Well this is entirely disappointing. Shoulders was definitely at least good enough to make the final 3. Something seems wrong here. My problem with Ue La La is that it does not seem to showcase Eden’s voice very much at all. She’s basically talking the whole time.
“Shoulders” was the only one I could see becoming something special when recorded by Eden, so I’m very disappointed. Now it’s between a song that’s actually enjoyable, but could be given to any young female performer in the world (“Set Me Free”), another that in my opinion doesn’t fit Eden’s persona (“Ue La La”) and that third one that I really hope doesn’t win, because the lyrics are not just bad, but also insensitive and reckless. I thought “Set me free” was always the best choice and the one I liked from the get-go out of the nine. The other 2 songs are good but I’m worried that they will run into very similar songs in Rotterdam. “Set Me Free” can be customized to Eden much more and is more unique.
Yeah you could be right about being customized to Eden’s voice. The problem is that it is so generic sounding.
Like….no offense to the people in charge but…this doesn’t really seem like a good way to go about picking songs? She didn’t even sing them all. I don’t understand the whole “public picks two and KAN picks the third” thing either. Remind me the point of a national selection based on demos again? These songs are unfinished by definition…why don’t we just make decisions based on the finished songs instead of trying to judge songs that she isn’t even singing?

KAN needs to introduce new songs produced by ACTUAL PRODUCERS + SONGWRITERS into the national final, otherwise, Eden barely stands a chance of qualifying this year.
KAN knew Eden could’ve potentially won with any song from last years selection, so they completely ruined her chances of even qualifying this year. Eden deserves quality composers and songwriters. JUSTICE FOR EDEN!

Unfortunately yes. I still listen to all of last year’s songs from time to time. It’s so weird there isn’t a single song that matches that quality.

I’m not really a big fan of any of these, but I just hope they don’t go with “Set Me Free”, it’s so bland…
A bit disappointed that we won’t be able to listen to an Eden version for “Shoulders” because she could definitely have pushed the song to another level with her flavour and interpretation. It was my favourite since it reminded me a bit of “Roots” which I still listen to, plus the Hebrew/Amarik? (i don’t know which language it is) lyrics which is even better. Set Me Free strangely reminds me of Austria’s song for the 2020 competition. I mean overall I am disappointed that Shoulder’s didn’t make it as I think it had the most fan support internally and internationally, but La La Love seems like a good second choice
I’m so sad for Eden, she is one of the best singers we have ever sent to the contest and deserves better. Excluding Shoulders, the best song by far, makes NO sense.
Can we blame it on the process itself? First announcing a 16-song televised national final, then ditching it for not having enough quality and publish 9 songs, 3 out of them making the cut, with online voting and 1 KAN wildcard, but then voting again for the favourite, haven’t seen how Eden live performs each song, then doing a show were she actually sings but you don’t get to vote because the voting closed a day ago
They had a great process in 2020 so the fact that they pursued this messy path tells me than KAN really doesn’t want to win and sabotaged Eden who would be a threat in Rotterdam with a good song.
If they win you could always refuse to host though. There isn’t really a need to send a bad song.

Yeah, Shoulders was robbed or whatever. I’m bummed. So far the selection process didn’t generate much buzz and KAN didn’t really bother to promote it. My guess is that there wasn’t a huge number of votes which meant that at least one of the songs here made it through because its creators had the motivation to arrange a massive vote. I honestly don’t like any of the songs, their lyrics are cringy and the production is messy.

‘la la love’ has the most potential, but the lyrics should be rewritten. singing about ‘partying till the morning’ to ‘infect my generation’ would raise some eyebrows even when there isn’t a global pandemic, but this year they are obviously going to set a lot of people on a very wrong track. also, some of the verses don’t fit the metre.
these three have potential, but shoulders had the most. although ue la la is my fav out of these, it is obvious from the snippets that eden is the most comfortable singing la la love, so I hope that one wins for her.
Personally I never understood why people likes shoulders so much. The lyrics were absolute nonsense, and it wasnt musically any better than the rest. I think this is a good spread if we are only going to get 3 of them.
Because when looking at last year’s selection, many thought “Roots” was the better song yet “Feker Libi” won. Why did this particular song win? Shoulders was BEAUTIFUL. I think Ue La La is the best of the three, and it’s so short that they can work a lot on it.
Eden you’re awesome. The songs are still demos, so is not prudent to start to argue deeply about them.

When you see the video, you’re wondering which song is her favourite, lmao. She is enjoying “La La Love” while she is barely singing “Set me free” and doesn’t even know “Ue La La”‘s lyrics. At first La La Love was definetly NO for me, but now I think it’s actually the best song for her. Ue La La sounds very current and up-to-date and the verses are nice, but the chorus is really bad and it wastes her talent. Such songs are good for Spotify and nothing else. I just hope they will make La La Love sound less childish.

Okay then… I cannot comment on their qualification chances, as Eden is extremely charismatic and 2019 had Like It and Say Na Na Na in the finals. I will say that now I see unlikely for Israel to be in *my personal* top 20. Unfortunately, each for their own reasons, these three songs are of mixed quality for me. 🙁

at least Zena absolutely brought it live, and Like It is reasonably catchy. I cannot say the same for Serhat, however.
At first, I liked Say Na Na Na much more as a song. But I agree that Zena elevated her song in live, while Serhat butchered his. While neither was my qualifier (and I’d put Portugal and Poland instead), Zena’s qualification is much more understandable from the performance standpoint. I can honestly see Eden doing the same to Ue La La or La La Love in live.
I agree about the Poland Portugal assessment. I had Belarus 11th, so just missing out, and San Marino last bcos I cannot STAND the song or the performance. I am going to keep hoping that the revamps of eden’s songs are outstanding bcos they all have potential. Tbh, for me I’m not worried about whether eden will bring it live, because all of her live 2020 songs were amazing, unlike another artist with multiple songs (looks at Cherry Red sadly).
Before making any critics, I should remind you that all of these songs were still just demos, so the final versions will definitely sound different
