In the first round of voting for Eden Alene’s Eurovision 2021 song, nine demos had to become three, resulting in “La La Love”, “Ue La La” and “Set Me Free” advancing to the final of “Our Song for Eurovision 2021”. Two of these were meant to be chosen by the public vote. The third was meant to be determined by a behind-closed-doors selection at Israel’s broadcaster KAN. But as it turned out, all three songs in the final finished Top 3 in the voting, making the “save” somewhat redundant.

But what about the other six songs? Well KAN has partially released the voting results. According to KAN:

“Tens of thousands of votes were received, and the three songs that reached the first places achieved 45.4% of the surfers’ votes!”

In the name of fairness, and as not to influence voting in the final round, the broadcaster does not specify the order those songs finished.

“The two songs that won the most votes automatically made it to the finals, and in fact the three songs the audience preferred went up – as the song selection committee chose a song that also came in third according to user votes – without knowing its position in the vote or the identity of the creators.”

“The other six songs received 54.6% of your votes according to the following distribution.”

⭐ 12.1% | Shoulders
⭐ 10.4% | Magic
⭐ 8.9% | Can’t Stop a Hurricane
⭐ 8.7% | Flying
⭐ 7.3% | Coming Out
⭐ 7.2% | Rise Up Today

Sorry. I just don’t believe those results. I would’ve been shocked if “Shoulders” hadn’t won but for it not to be in the top three? Definitely something more going on.
Good luck to Eden (she’s great) but they haven’t done her any favours with these songs choices.

I’ve been as disappointed as anyone in all of this. I’ll say this – listening to the final version of Ue La La this *might* be a dark horse. The new chorus by Eden has a ton of potential. The other two are so generic.

Set me free would be the second choice because at least it has some middle east influence.

I don’t like any of them… It’s a shame because eden is a great performer, and that’s the positive thing that can still make her qualify

Here it is how the chorus of Ue La La sounds like in final version of the song, sung by Eden Alene (spoiler)

israel might end up being my biggest drop from last year if they don’t massively… i mean MASSIVELY revamp these 3 (lets be honest here) very below average songs. if “la la love” is chosen, israel will be my last place because nothing will compare to the pure insensitivity and classlessness that song is

Knowing how low in memorability and delivery some songs can get, I doubt that Israel will be my last (We are looking at a great year if it will be), but La La Love and Ue La La are both my early contenders for worst lyrics award. I agree, La La Love’s take on surviving through quarantene is hilarious and cringey. 😉

I don’t believe those numbers at all lol. I guess there was a problem around Shoulders.

I am surprised that the Jury did not chose Shoulders once they saw that it didn’t make the top 2. Maybe the leak of the writers did negatively impact the song, but I will be interested to see what the full results will be. It just seems surprising that both Ue La La and La La Love both scored over Shoulders

They revealed short excerpts of the revamped songs and Ue La La is still the best, Idk why people say it’s destroyed when only 20 seconds are known and even during these 20 seconds it sounds very good

It will be controversial here but out of the 3 snippets of 20 seconds, Set Me Free seems to be the more interesting…..

I’ve always loved how Set Me Free is produced, but it’s not impactful enough, it’s not for Eurovision

Could be in theory, but if it were disqualified KAN should have been straight forward about it. It’s possible there was less then a 1% gap between the fourth and third places or in other words only a few hundred votes separating between them. The 4 top songs must have run a very close race so the leading song probably got less than 20% of the votes if the top 3 earned 45.4% of the total votes. Another possible scenario is that the gap between ‘Shoulders’ and the leading song was only 6%-8% which translates to only a few thousand… Read more »

KAN deserves credit for providing those percentages in detail. We shouldn’t take it for granted because transparency wasn’t the strongest side of ‘The Next Star’ and the defunct IBA so at least that’s something. It’s also not easy to admit there were only tens of thousands of votes which is clearly a failure in communication and in viewer engagement. This is KAN’s first attempt at running the show completely om it’s own, but what could have been a blessing proved to be a messy and flawed selection process. It’s too easy to blame Covid and the lockdown during the submission window… Read more »

As said before, the whole voting process was corrupted. Every kid with a VPN could vote. And also, song writer who have the money could buy votes from voting servers. Aline Cohen have the money to do so. I guess that some of the other song writers don’t – and that is not fair.
