Jedward and Lesley Roy Eurovision 2021

They’re the boisterous brothers that twice represented Ireland at Eurovision. And now, as the tenth anniversary of their first participation in 2011 approaches, Jedward have revealed that they’ve submitted an entry to RTÉ for the 2021 contest. However, they seem to have missed one important piece of news — Lesley Roy has already been confirmed to represent the Emerald Isle in May.

Jedward submit a song for Eurovision 2021

“FYI”, tweeted the twins on New Year’s Day, “We have submitted songs to represent Ireland this year in Eurovision! It’s in the hands of RTÉ now!”. Of course, fans were quick to point out that Lesley Roy has been selected to sing for Ireland in 2021 after missing out in 2020 due to the contest’s cancellation. Furthermore, the “Story Of My Life” songstress isn’t in need of an entry either.

Her 2021 track is written and produced by Lesley herself, along with Eurovision producer Lukas Hallgren (“She Got Me”), Philip Strand producer/songwriter Normandie, Deepend and Emelie Eriksson (EEVA).

While the duo — that’s John and Edward Grimes — don’t appear to have responded directly to the news of Lesley’s selection, they do seem to have acknowledged that they may need to cast their net further afield if they want to grace the Eurovision stage this year.

In a follow-up tweet, they wrote: “In these ‘unprecedented’ times we volunteer as tribute to be standby act for all countries in Eurovision! All we ask is for Spectacular Pyro, Hairspray and Sequins.” Their choice of countries is limited. Of the 41 participating nations, only a handful have yet to confirm their artist or national final plans for 2021.

One of these countries is the United Kingdom. “So now that the U.K. have left Europe will they still be in Eurovision! asking for a friend”, the pair pondered. The answer is, of course, yes. But the lads should already know that given that they participated at Eurovision 2012 in Azerbaijan, another non European Union member state. Then they performed after Moldova in the semi-final and between North Macedonia and Serbia in the final — three more non-EU countries.

What do you think? Would you like to see Jedward return to Eurovision someday? What country could they represent apart from Ireland? Let us know below.

Definitely if they have announced their intention of coming back to Eurovision, will do it very soon and maybe United Kingdom catch them for this year but It’s a big shame The Eurovision Song Contest lost the artistic quality of James Newman. Another country all we know for its skills for catching abroad Artist is San Marino but They has already their Entry. Let see if finally the irish twins will arrive to Eurovision Stage or not!

I would have said yes to bringing them back in 2014-2016 but I think they waited too long to make an ESC comeback. They did bring the fun though. Still Ireland’s best result in years (8th in Düsseldorf) even though they didn’t do as well in 2012 (16th), 16th would be a great result for us these days. Look, it’s Lesley Roy’s this year, but if they had a good song or strong production team behind them in 2022, then I say give them a chance. I hope they don’t represent another country though, I hate when singers represent a… Read more »

oh god they had their chance twice, it’s enough. Eurovision gave them so much success and experience. They are grown now and they don’t have the charm of the past. Time to do something else.

Sorry I will appear harsh maybe but I don’t like them at all, they are so unnatural and their only talent is to jump like crazy guys, there has always been something that bothers me about them and I think these wanna be star knew about Lesley but they are in lack of attention as always so they try something to make people talk about them as always. It bothers me too that people are searching to not represent their country because they absolutely want to go on the big stage by all the possible ways, #desesperate Something about Eurovision… Read more »

I really have to say something REALLY controversial:

They’re doing a horrible job representing Eurovision, and even worse job representing the LGBT community.
This is 2021. I want to say the western media focusing on gay doctors, scientists, economists, leaders.
I’m sick and tired that whenever the western media shows gays, they have to be this clownish gays with zero skills/talent to show the world beside their “gayness”.

Dear Jedwards, I know you’re reading this:
The reason you didn’t break is because you have nothing to show the world.
You can’t sing, your music is not interesting, you lack self awareness and you project nothing but silliness and clownery.
Grow up.

They have grown up. Watch them on YouTube singing Everybody Hurts, for their mother – who died last year.

They’re not gay though. 😀 Plus they reached the best Irish result since I think 2003. You done come up for some energy, vampire? 😉

They’re not gay as much as I’m straight.

they have never stated their sexuality and frankly its incredibly rude of you to assume.

Assuming someone is LGBT? Now who is doing a bad job of representing mankind? That is rude to be polite.
Also they have come a long way from 2011. Not that you would care..

Maybe ‘I’ not ‘we’ would be the correct terminology.

They would do great now….. with recorded (or hidden) background singers
At least back then we could see the background singers doing all the job lol.

I think this was already done in 2011 with the “backing vocalists” actually on stage

they are fine lads. But they have been I’d say a bit eccentric and a bit obnoxious back in the days (2010-2015-ish)… some people love them some people hate them (I’m not British or Irish, but I think that’s the picture people have of them)

NOOO!!
I cannot stand them, I know I’ll get down voted off this. But they’ve had their moment in the sun, especially since that was ten years ago. Let someone else shine, let another Irish singer have the opportunity. I’d prefer these two to stay as an early 2010s relec.

They still have their own fan base? That’s fine, just stick to them I say.

They obviously didn’t know that Lesley has been selected again – so there’s not much to be annoyed about. I think the EU thing was just humour. I’m not even sure they actually entered a song, because they would have just been told that no entries are being accepted.

They should try out for UK instead. If BBC hasn’t picked James already, they could consider Jedward. They are funny, well synchronized on stage and can make a hoot of a party. Lipstick is certainly in top ten best songs of 2011. 🙂

Sure. I think that Lipstick is my 7th or 8th in 2011. Remember that is 2011 we are talking about, so it would likely be, say… 13th/14th or so in 2020. It’s a really fun song with cheeky lyrics and instant hook. I can totally understand why people find them annoying, but I really liked them in 2011.

For me Brexit is a more palatable option than Jedward representing the UK

I think what they meant is that they submitted a potential song for Lesley

… I don’t know what to think abut this, or them. Jedward is cool, but I had enough of people returning.

At least they seem to want to re-enter the contest as opposed to be a perpetual “interval act” by some divine right.

It’s gonna be hard for them to get selected this year, most countries are already hooked up, they should leave the song for next year’s Ireland’s entry

No. I don’t mind Jedward (Lipstick was fun, Waterline was….not), but I am becoming tired of returning acts. especially if its for the third time. Give other artists a chance.

Yep, Waterline not. And their 2012 reappearance, one year later, was enough to prevent other Irish artists from taking part in national final.

That’s kind of a dick move if you ask me. Lesley Roy was announced a while back so unless they submitted before Lesley Roy was chosen, that’s kinda messed up. I stg if rté chose them I-
