MADWALK 2020: Elena Tsagrinou joins Tamta, Eleni Foureira and Ivi Adamou in star-studded line-up

If you had to identify the holy triumvirate of Greek-language queens at Eurovision over the past decade, you may well name Eleni Foureira, Tamta and Ivi Adamou. Well ladies and gentleman, it’s time to add at least one more name into the mix: Elena Tsagrinou.

Cyprus’ Eurovision 2021 singer recently performed in MADWALK — the high-fashion TV extravaganza which is known for calling on the good and the great from the world of Eurovision. The show, which is always filmed in December, aired on Saturday. There was no audience this year owing to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Elena covered “Be My Lover” — the 1995 hit from German-American Eurodance group La Bouche. Given that it was a global dance hit, it makes sense that Elena would incorporate a disco ball into her performance. Bur rather than dancing beneath one she slipped into one — a bodysuit bedecked in a disco ball pattern that clung to every contour of her gym-homed physique. She stood on top of collapsed columns. Perhaps it’s a sign: When Elena takes the stage the ground shakes!

CyBC’s Eurovision team shared more details on their Facebook page.

“With a song originally released 2 years before she was even born, our Elena Tsangrinou rocked the stage at MAD WALK this past December, the absolute fashion and music project in Greece”.

“She sang for a designer whose show delivered yet another blow to homophobia as this was aired tonight and on prime time on MEGA TV in Greece and OMEGA TV in Cyprus. #TeamCy #Eurovision2021”

That designer — Apostolos Mitropoulos — sent models from across the LGBT spectrum down the runway to model his looks while Elena sang. Among the models was the non-binary activist and gender-fluid model Tzef Montana.

Elena wasn’t the only Eurovision star who made our radar go bleep, bleep, baby! We also spotted three of our all-time favourites: Tamta, Eleni Foureira and Ivi Adamou.

Tamta turned out for the designer Sotiris Georgiou. Her performance of her hit “Hold On” gave us Daz Sampson schoolgirl vibes — but with a high-fashion twist. Never have pigtails been worked to such great effect!

Eleni worked her magic for Celia Kritharioti. She re-interpreted her hit “Light it Up”, starting off with a reverse dress reveal. She first appeared wearing a barely-there look but then re-emerged in a sparkling body-con dress. She is gasoline AND the fire!

Ivi performed in support of Vassilis Zoulias. As ever she was the epitome of poise and beauty.

Her performance gave us major Evita vibes. We will cry for her, Argentina!
