Pernilla Wahlgren Melodifestivalen

Set an early alarm for tomorrow, Wednesday 13 January. Because, at 07:45 CET, SVT will reveal the running order for the four semi-finals of Melodifestivalen 2021. The broadcaster broke the news less than a day after announcing that Pernilla Wahlgren will join the hosting line-up.

Melodifestivalen running order to be announced on 13 January

On Tuesday morning, the official English-language Melfest Twitter account wrote: “Mello monsters! Tmrw 07.45 CET on our Instagram (Melodifestivalen) we will go live and release the start orders for Melodifestivalen 2021. So follow us and set an alarm!”. The message concluded with three sparkle emojis and a Swedish flag.

Traditionally, fans get quite excited examining the intricacies of the Mello running order. That’s because it’s generally thought that the opening and closing positions in each semi are given to two of the strongest songs, so Wednesday’s reveal can offer clues to the songs likely to make the grand final or andra chansen.

While fans have various theories about the power and potential of performing first and last, it is no guarantee of going direkt till final. It usually all comes down to the song.

Pernilla Wahlgren to host Melodifestivalen 2021

Just one week ago, Melfest organisers unveiled the hosting line-up for 2021. It contained an array of Swedish talent. Christer Björkman would present all six shows, while he will be joined by a selection of new faces each week. The original list included Oscar Zia, Lena Philipsson, Anis Don Demina, Jason Diakité, Per Andersson, Shirley Clamp, Måns Zelmerlöw and Shima Niavarani.

Now, Pernilla Wahlgren has also been added to the line-up. She will co-host semi-final four alongside Christer and Per Andersson. Wahlgren is a Melfest veteran. She’s best remembered for her 1985 entry “Picadilly Circus”. She last took part in 2013 as part of the Swedish House Wives. She is also the mother of Benjamin Ingrosso – Sweden’s Eurovision 2018 singer.

Are you excited for the running order reveal? And are you a Pernilla fan? Let us know below.

Why so angry all the time? Every ESC fan knows that Sweden has one of the biggest selections every year. I dont think thats irrelevant to the ESC community.

“Snippets” (2:30 of 3 minute song) are released on Thursday or Friday (not sure) before semifinal. Those snippets are deleted after semifinal.

Eliminated songs and songs in second chance are released after semifinal and finalists are released after 4th semifinal.
