Update on January 18 at 19:40 GMT: The artists have climbed in the last day. Tix is now at #2 with “Ut av mørket”, while KEiiNO have taken “Monument” to #29. And Blåsemafien feat Hazel have entered the Top 50 at #35 with their song “Let Loose.” Our original post is below.

In 2018 he co-wrote the global smash hit “Sweet but Psycho” from Ava Max. And now TIX is proving he’s a hitmaker once more, as his MGP 2021 entry “Ut Av Mørket” (Out of the Dark) climbs the charts on Spotify in Norway.

At the time of writing, he’s currently #3 on the daily songs Norway Top 50 chart, behind songs from Olivia Rodrigo and The Kid LAROI, and just ahead of Justin Bieber.

This follows his performance during the first semi-final of Melodi Grand Prix — Norway’s Eurovision selection show — on Saturday evening.

KEiiNO — who are considered the front-runners for this year’s contest — are the only other MGP act to make the Top 50 of the daily songs chart. “MONUMENT” sat at #46 at the time of writing this post.

It seems that the show has also lifted one of TIX’s other songs — “Tusen Tårer”. It’s currently at #5 on the chart. The song was released on Christmas Day.

TIX’s first live performance of the song raised a lot of eyebrows on Saturday evening. Dressed as a blinged-out angel, TIX wore enormous white wings on top of a golden chemise along with countless gold chains and his signature rimmed glasses and white headband.

He stood on a platform chained in place, as a series of black-winged angels formed an ominous circle around him. Nodding to heaven and hell, darkness and light, it dovetailed with the single’s artwork, which features TIX on an elevator leaving what seems to be the fiery gates of hell.

TIX has global ambitions for the song. Speaking to NRK after his performance, he said that he’ll translate it into English if he makes it to Eurovision. It shouldn’t be hard. In fact, he originally wrote the song in English for a non-Norwegian performer before deciding to perform it himself.

TIX – also known as Andreas Haukeland – hails from Bærum, Norway. TIX’s first album “Dømt og Berømt” spent over 70 weeks on the Norwegian album chart. In May 2020, he had 11 songs in the Norwegian top 200 chart, including “Karantene”, “Skål” and “Kaller På Deg”.

In his first press release, TIX told NRK that he wants to share music with people via MGP: “It has been a different year, and my life is about making music for the people. What better place than MGP?”

Andreas named himself TIX after his experience growing up with Tourette’s syndrome, taking ownership of his “ticks” and using the name to create his character.

TIX has a massive fan base, with more than 200,000 followers on Instagram. He is also known for appearing on the hit show Paradise Hotel in 2019.

Did your opinion of TIX’s song change following his live performance? Do you think his Spotify success is a sign he’s a threat in this competition? Let us know down below!

The entry is good, so I fear that Keiino will not win by a landslide and could even lose. Let’s wait and see how the situation evolves and the other candidatures

SF2 artists are out. Among the returnees are Raylee and performer of all-time banger “Romeo” from 1986 (and not-quite-as-much-of-a-banger-but-still-OK “Brandenburger Tor” from 1990) Ketil Stokkan.

I think one step to making the stage show better is to get rid of 5 of the dancers, they all take your eyes away from TIX himself, which really shouldn’t be the case. Also maybe make his wings come from the back, and not the top, not to criticize his style or anything, but it just looks quite strange

It’s strange, but as Monument continues to grow on me, Ut Av Mørket grows slightly off. The chorus melody is great but that performance was just terrible. I’ve changed my tune and am very much rooting for Monument

He has excellent song in my opinion and I actually liked the staging. He looked so confident on stage and the vocals were mostly good, I really wouldn’t be mad if he wins instead of KEIINO.

Couple of listens in and I can appreciate its a good song, but it’s definitely not giving me any kind of strong feelings, probably ignorant, but might prefer it mor en English. Sad keiino aren’t being streamed more, I’ve had it stuck in my head all day, it’s getting better everytime I watch. Maybe keiino are much more popular in the eurovision bubble vs the Norwegian music scene?

Imagine Norway would pick TIX to represent that country in the ESC ….only because the stupid …..no, just no. He might be a cool guy but the song gives nothing to me and that angel wing performance was the worst I have seen in years.

I agree. Maybe his performance bugs me because he reminds me of a similar Swedish influencer. I just can’t take him seriously.

Then the only redeeming quality I saw in this song (that it was in Norwegian) will be gone.

Wow I thought his stage name was pretty meaningless at first, but damn that really makes me appreciate him more for his confidence and bravery in fully embracing his condition and not letting its consequences get to him.

As for his song, it’s definately very well produced and I wouldn’t mind it representing Norway despite not being my favorite from the nf but I do hope he keeps it in Norwegian if he does indeed win MGP.

All the best to the guy, but the song does nothing to me – I find it quite unremarkable at first listen.
