The Roop Discoteque Pabandom is Naujo 2021

How could The Roop possibly match the success of their Eurovision 2020 entry “On Fire”? By releasing “Discoteque”, a quirky dance track that comes with a bright, don’t-forget-me music video and some easy-to-master choreography.

Since its release on Friday, the video has already amassed more than a million views. That’s in just 48 hours! The like to dislike ratio is also impressive: 39,000 thumbs up to just 852 thumbs down. Yes, the dance floor really is on fire.

So guys, why all the success? Writing on Insta, their team suggest it may stem partly from the universal need to move. They write:

“THE ROOP have already noticed with their previous hit ‘On Fire’ how music and dance affects people. Music and dance liberates everyone. There’s not a single person who cannot dance. This is innate. Dance is like a tool which can also heal scars.”

The song most definitely has an uplifting quality. Although it wasn’t inspired by the pandemic, it resonates well in a time many of us have to stay at home and keep our distance from both strangers and those we love. Wiwiblogger Robyn summed it up well in our review of their first live performance.

“You’ve got all this energy and you can’t go out tonight, but here’s something you can do in the comfort of your own home: You can have your own solo disco. It’s tapping into that. I think it adds an extra emotional level. The live performance brings that joy.”

The Roop’s ‘Discoteque’ top the Spotify daily charts in Lithuania

International Eurofans feel the vibe, but what about Lithuanians? Well the Spotify daily charts in Lithuania show it has also struck a chord with them.

On the day of release, the song managed to shoot straight to number one, outperforming even “drivers license” — the global hit of the moment from Olivia Rodrigo.

I can see only 1 group that can rival with The Roop…. –> Big Little. No one more.

All the negativity. Were people thinking that they were going to submit “I’m still on Fire”? If you want to enjoy 2021, it won’t be fair to the returning artists to compare their ’21 songs with their ’20 one. This is the whole package. The song is catchy, they have the epic dancing going on, and it’s commendable that Vaidotas doesn’t hit a bum note or miss a step during his performance. This is mand polished and perfectly executed.

Unfortunately I still really don’t like it. I can see why people enjoy it, but for me it’s a big no-no.

Love the chickachickachicka bridge. Reminds me of the opening rift (but not the same) in jive talking the Bee Gees

The Roop’s song is better than the currently available ESC song. So I’ll give it that.

I do still believe they had a better shot last year as per my taste.

But it also still depends on the competition when the songs are selected or revealed later on by March. How many of the returning artists will come with songs that are stronger than their 2020 efforts, or will they be weaker. Will other favorites have Strong second chance to in, or will they flounder under the expectations? There’s a lot of unknown factors here Until all the songs are available by March.

I preferred On Fire but I think this has a better chance of winning. No stone unturned and the kitchen sink thrown in. Will be interesting to see if Think More About Things appears for Iceland.

The fact that they manage to outdo themselves and produce something even better than last year its amazing. They will give Lithuania its best result ever

I have no doubt the public will definitely back the Roop, but I just have a tiny worry that the Jury could muck things up by choosing a different song to give their 12 points and that would result in a tie that would have the Jury’s pick win. But that is probably nothing and I think they wouldn’t be that stupid considering how much buzz the Roop is creating. It also doesn’t help that Lithuania has had some questionable picks in the past (looking at you 2017 and 2019), but I could just be overthinking things. It’s going to… Read more »

I think that risk might be more likely to happen if the quality of the NF was stronger overall like it was like year – you could make the argument that in some objective respects, songs like Make Me Human, If I Leave and Alligator were slightly better from a jury member’s perspective. But this year the consensus seems to be that The Roop not only have the most catchy song, but also probably the best written one as well. I feel like since this is Lithuania’s best chance to win ESC in perhaps forever everyone will unite to give… Read more »

Maybe winning Eurovision was their destiny all along, and even Coronavirus will not be able to stop them. If the Roop, Victoria, or Dadi wins, it would be an amazing story as they were favorites also last year- get ready for a Netflix documentary.

If Victoria and dadi release songs that are just as good or better than their 2020 efforts, then this could be a three horse race Between three countries aiming for the first ever Eurovision win. My first choice is the roop of course, but if they have to lose to somebody, I’d rather it be An artist from another country aiming for their first Eurovision win.
