It’s showtime… almost! There are just five more sleeps until the Melodifestivalen circus rolls around for another year. And while COVID-19 precautions have put paid to the annual tour, we’re still expecting lots of sparkle, fireworks and, of course, some great music.

And while we wait for the first batch of entries to drop later in the week, we can reveal the one act which has left our readers giddy with anticipation — Dotter!

Dotter is the Melodifestivalen 2019 act you’re most excited for

Shortly after the line-up for Sweden’s Eurovision 2021 selection was revealed, we asked a very important question — Which Melodifestivalen 2021 act are you the most excited for?

Hundreds of you let your voices by heard by voting in our poll. And after counting 4,673 votes, we can confirm that Dotter is the act that’s left y’all gagging. The star hoovered up support, capturing 915 votes — that’s 19.58% of all votes cast. “Little Tot” has been described as a “modern lullaby”. Dotter says the song is about “our kids or future children, that they don’t wanna be like us when they grow up. It’s about be aware of our ego.”

Almost 300 votes behind is Eric SaadeThe  “Every Minute” singer picked up 621 votes or 13.29% of all votes cast. This will be his fourth time competing at Melfest. He debuted with “Manboy” in 2010, won with “Popular” in 2011 and returned with “Sting” in 2015. He was also a co-host of the contest in 2019.

The top three is completed by The Mamas. The reigning champions attracted 573 votes or 12.26% of all votes cast. This will be their third appearance at Mello in as many years, having provided backing for John Lundvik in 2019 and competing in their own right with “Move” last year. “In The Middle” has been teased as a “heartwarming love song” which the trio have dedicated to their fans.

It’s kind of sad that outside of Danny all the remaining Swedish language songs have fallen to the bottom of the rankings among wiwi readers

Could be because none of them are in it to win it? Even Danny has said he doesn’t want to win, just perform after a year of nothing..

It is also kinda sad that Melfest / MGP / DMGP usually have songs in a national language only performed to fill the quota and even if occasionally one turns out competitive, it gets shunned by the international and local juries. Similar can be said for Portugal and English language songs, though. It’s always a bit frustrating when a language or genre can be an automatic disadvantage in a certain festival. I mean, it’s still nice to have them there, but I don’t think that most of the performers actually think they can win with a Swedish song. I’d gladly… Read more »

I’ve loved Dotter’s music since discovering her stuff at Melo 2018 and Bulletproof was my most listened to song last year, so I am very hyped to see what she brings.

I was also big into Danny’s music even before he competed at Melo over 10 years ago so am excited to see if he brings music more similar to his recent stuff or gives us some throwback vibes. Looking forward to it either way!
