Benny Cristo, Eurovision 2020 and 2021, Czech Republic

He’s a big name in his home country Czech Republic. Now singer and rapper Benny Cristo has revealed some big news about his internally selected song for Eurovision 2021: You can help him decide the name of it!

On Wednesday the Czech Eurovision delegation from broadcaster ČT went live on Instagram with their 2021 singer. Together with assistant head of delegation Ahmed Halloun, Benny answered questions from fans all over the world in a setting appropriate for a man-on-the-move — his car!

Naturally the main focus was the song Benny will perform on stage this year — and hopefully in Rotterdam. They revealed that the singer produced and submitted three different tracks. Later, a jury decided behind closed doors that “Song number 3” deserved the ticket to Eurovision. Yes, that means the song is decided but it doesn’t have a title!

The broadcaster and Benny revealed that a few lucky fans will get the opportunity to listen to the song before the official release. This way they can help the Czech hopeful find a suitable title. This will be decided in a special competition.

How can you be part of it? Well full details will be revealed later. It may have something to do with Valentine’s Day though. Be prepared to spend the day not only with your loved ones – but also with news from Benny.

We’ll definitely get a small snippet in mid-February. The whole song will be presented in late February. Benny teased the entry with these three words: Desire, energy and Netlix-and-chill.

While fans are not yet sure what this suggests, we can definitely say that this already sounds interesting. They also dropped the hint that “Song number three” will be uptempo and it has nothing to do with Benny’s song from 2020 “Kemama”. We also got the news that the song will be in English with one line in Czech as Benny wants to celebrate the Czech language.

What happens in 2022?

The Czech Republic has used the Eurovision Song CZ national selection for its entry every year since 2018. The format is unique in that it takes place entirely online. Benny, of course, won the competition with “Kemama” in 2020. However, now that both he and his song will be internally selected, the contest is having a breather.

But the powers that be envisage that Eurovision Song CZ will return in the future. “We strongly believe it will! We love it, we are good at it and fans love it as well, so there is no reason to abandon the national selection. We would love to keep supporting the Czech music scene and offer various musicians and producers (no matter their notoriety) the chance to use the Eurovision platform”.

Hey all, I’ve got a lot of respect for benny and the Czech delegation. As other commenters have said Benny respects the contest, and whilst at times that respect wasn’t paid back to him by some fans, he has maintained his enthusiasm. Looking forward to see what the final product is… have a good Friday everyone 🙂

I hope it’ll be better than “Kemama”, The country has been really improving lately in the recent years. I also want ESCZ 2022 to have performances and just to be based on the music videos cuz the performance is a really important thing that impacts the result in the contest.

I remember last year how incredibly hard he worked in his entry and how much he respected, loved and listened to the Eurovision fandom. I really root for him!! I’m sure he’ll deliver and give us an amazing song!!

Also, kudos to the Czech delegation for sticking to their guns and promoting local talent instead of going for the cheap melfest reject. Well done!

Why not keep it ‘Song #3’. Nice homage to Serebro. 🙂

I would rather live in 2006 than this awful 2021 year, to be honest. Don’t knock it.
