The nominations are in! Dreams of award show gold are within reach for Eurovision fans, as Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga picks up another nomination for the 2021 award season. The Eurovision movie’s epic finale number “Husavik” is on the ballot to win Best Song at the 26th Critics’ Choice Awards.

Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga — “Husavik” nominated for Best Song Critics’ Choice Award

“Husavik” is the 11 o’clock number from Will Ferrell’s Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga. The song is a touching piano ballad about the Icelandic hometown of Rachel McAdams’ character. It features lead vocals from My Marrianne — also known as Melodifestivalen star Molly Sandén — as McAdams sings her lyrics on-stage. (She actually sang them, rather than miming, during filming so it would look more realistic in the film). “Husavik” proved extremely popular with fans, reaching the top ten of the worldwide iTunes song chart.

The Critics’ Choice Association announced the full list of nominees today. Here are the contenders for Best Song:

  • “Husavik” from Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (Netflix)
  • “Io Si (Seen)” from The Life Ahead (Netflix)
  • “Fight For You” from Judas and the Black Messiah (Warner Bros.)
  • “Speak Now” from One Night in Miami (Amazon Studios)
  • “Everybody Cries” from The Outpost (Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment)
  • “Tigress & Tweed” from The United States vs. Billie Holiday (Hulu)

The Critics’ Choice Award nomination is the second major award nomination that Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga has received. In November, the film picked up a Grammy nomination for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media. There, it’s up against soundtracks from the likes of box office hits JoJo Rabbit and Frozen 2. As well, the Eurovision movie is tipped to pick up an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song. American publication Billboard named “Husavik” one of their early picks for the Oscar.

The 26th Critics’ Choice Awards

This year’s Critics’ Choice Awards show will take place two months later than usual as a result of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the film and television industries.

The Critics’ Choice Awards honour the best in American film and television, as chosen by critics and entertainment journalists who are members of the Broadcast Film Critics Association. That’s somewhat different to how the Academy Awards function — Oscars winners are determined by film industry professionals who are members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. There is no overlap between the two. However historically, pundits have often been able to predict Oscar nominees and winners based on the Critics’ Choice Awards. Could this be a sign of good things to come?

The 26th Critics’ Choice Awards will be presented on Sunday 7 March 2021.

So disappointed that it was snubbed by the Golden Globes. It might be a negative sign that Oscars will not nominate it either but i still have my hopes up.

The soundtrack is amazing and Husavik is a stunning ballad, much more successful and loved than the other nominated songs.

Thankfully, the Golden Globes has gotten it wrong in the past. They’ve nominated songs in the past that no one cared about. They’re international journalists, not people who are creating the content, who nominate.

I wouldn’t say Husavik is loved more than the others. The others just have a different non-European fan base compared to Husavik.
