Melodi Grand Prix 2021 Wildcard Show

Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix is levelling up for 2021. On Monday 15 February, for the first time, there will be a Sistesjansen or ‘Last Chance’ show in which all of the eliminated semi-finalists will have one more opportunity to reach the grand final. But who should win the wildcard to the MGP 2021 final?

All 15 non-qualifiers from the five semis will get one more chance to reach the final. Alas, 14 will finish the night disappointed as there will only be one wildcard spot up for grabs. The remaining 11 final spots have already been filled by the six pre-qualified acts and the five semi-final winners. The acts will not sing again. Instead, producers will re-use performance footage from the earlier shows.

You can listen to all 15 hopefuls here and then vote for your favourite. You can pick as many acts as you like, but you can only vote once. The poll will only be open for approximately 24 hours, so choose wisely!

Song-wise, “Elevate,” “Faith Bloody Faith” and “Coming Home” are my favourites. Daniel Owen is very talented, but the song isn’t a favourite of mine. Probably Big Daddy K next, with a similar footnote to Daniel, except there’s a lot I would change stylistically. After that it gets to non-qualifier territory, in my opinion. The one I’m a bit worried about is “Circus” – I know Royane has many fans, but please not that song, please

Circus is the song I didn’t like at all on first listening, but it has grew on me since. Especially because of how colorful and energetic it was on the stage. Royane was really cool as a ringleader. 😉

Also, can we hope they won’t put the winner of this round at 2nd or 3rd spot in the finals and at least give it some push? 😉

Best to write to NRK about the running order. Sorry to disagree with you on “Circus”, it’s just a bit too coarse/rough for me to artistically appreciate it. But, I have been quietly informed that Royane has a lot of fans, so I am expecting it might do well.

I voted for ”Vi er Norge” it’s something really different compared to other songs. It’s folky, catchy and fun. Ole’s performance was entertaining, and he is such a charismatic performer.

My biggest favs are Elevate, Faith Bloody Faith, Playing with Fire, Pages and Nordlyset.
Such a shame Beady Belle is so underrated here and everywhere.

I would like to fire most of the automatic qualifiers (but not Kaja Rode or Tix).
Honorable mentions to Psycho, Circus, My Life is OK and Walking in My Sleep, special effort dance award to Dinaye (but the song is not my cup of tea).

Actually to those mentioned above I would add Emmy and Raylee, Imerika and this would be such an amazing grand final. As a wildcard round, an insane bloodbath…

MGP did a good job this year and the amount of good entries in the wildcard finale is a testament of it. My favorites:

1) “Faith Bloody Faith”
2) “Pages”
3) “Nordlyset”
4) “Coming Home”
5) “Elevate”

I’ll be voting for Psycho. Yes, it’s very repetitive, but I could listen to that insanely catchy bassline all day. I also have a soft spot for Elevate and Nordlyset.

This year, MGP really stood-up and most of these songs are at least okay. They are very diverse and that’s what makes it better. Call me crazy, but I’d really like to see Bli med meg på gar’n in the finals. It’s a really funny and well staged joke act and it would bring a lot of diversity to the final line-up. I expect Jorn, Stina, Daniel or Royane to win this, though. In any case, I cannot really complain. What I do find funny is how I don’t see much of a difference in quality between these acts and… Read more »

YES. I don’t get why people are sleeping on Royane. I’ve been playing Circus nonstop ever since it dropped, but apparently no one else feels it?

Yes, you can vote at nrk.no/stem/mgp

You have to sign up though, and if you don’t vote for Jorn your vote won’t be counted (jk). You can translate the page using Google

I have registered too. Does anyone know at what time the voting starts and will we be able to vote only for one act or more?

The website says that voting is for the Norwegian audience, so I’m not even sure if any international votes would count.

Carmen says we can, but I guess we’ll find out tomorrow. So far, I was able to open the voting poll for semi 5 only, but of course that it doesn’t accept any votes anymore.

Voters are supposed to choose a part of Norway to represent, though – it’s not meant for international voters.

Yes, you pick a part of Norway to represent, but as I got it, then you are registered as a part of that segment and count as such. You can certainly question whether it’s fair or not for outsiders to participate (it’s for NRK and Norwegians to decide in the end, tho), but all indications are that it is technically possible.

Technically possible or not, it’s completely misrepresentative.

Still, you are stating your opinion on the matter (which I can respect), not what actually can or cannot be done (and with NRK’s blessing). I mean, I haven’t even used VPN and have successfully registered.

On the final, they announce the votes region by region. If the voters aren’t actually in or from that region, well…that’s misrepresentative. I’m not sure how anybody could have a different opinion on that. NRK say on their website that voting is for the Norwegian audience.

Call is misrepresentation, but it happens. Even people from Norway are not obliged to register with their proper regions, much like people from Sweden are not obliged to register under their actual age group on Melfest app. I think the apps are just meant to seal one voter to one group so they cannot cast multiple votes (you have to be registered beforehand). At least last year, NRK was encouraging international voters to participate in the finals. I am not sure will it be possible in these previous rounds, but if nothing has changed, it will be possible again in… Read more »

Colin, to quote someone quite infamous here in the UK: “Read the standing orders.” 😀
But yes, the representation is of the broadcaster’s reach rather than the country’s reach, technically. (Maybe not morally though, ahaha)

I really hope Maria Solheim gets through with Nordlyset. It was so irritating that she went up against Raylee. It’s a really sweet song, and it’d be lovely to have a really calm, quiet ballad amongst the other finalists.
