Koit Toome is your favourite to win Eesti Laul 2021 semi-final one, followed by Andrei Zevakin & Pluuto and Egert Milder

Estonia’s national selection for Eurovision 2021 kicks off later tonight. The first semi-final of Eesti Laul 2021 will see 12 acts — including superstars like Tanja, Koit Toome and Egert Milder — compete for the chance to represent Estonia in Rotterdam. But only six will make it through to the grand final on Saturday 6 March.

Ahead of the semi-final, we asked our readers to vote for their favourites. And the results are in!

Koit Toome is your favourite to win semi-final one of Eesti Laul 2021

We counted a total of 1,975 votes in our poll. And Koit Toome is the clear winner amongst our readers. The “We Could Have Been Beautiful” singer secured 657 votes — that’s 33.27% of all votes cast.

Koit Toome is a two-time Eurovision veteran. He first represented his country in 1998, placing 12th with “Mere lapsed”. He then returned to the competition in 2017 alongside Laura Põldvere. Their track “Verona” failed to qualify from the semi-final. This year, the Estonian superstar delivers a classy power ballad. Could Koit Toome be going to Eurovision for a third time in 2021?

The runner-up in our semi-final one poll is Eesti Laul newcomer duo Andrei Zevakin & Pluuto. Their track “Wingman” received just over 10% of the vote — that’s 206 votes.

Rounding out the top three is Eesti Laul returnee Egert Milder. In 2020, Milder made it to the final of Eesti Laul with his song “Georgia (On My Mind)”. There, he placed fourth — narrowly missing out on the superfinal. This year, he’s trying to go all the way with a folk-pop track. “Free Again” picked up 194 votes — 9.82% of all votes cast.

Based on our poll results, our readers also want to see Kéa, Karl Killing and Nika Marula make it through to the final.

Eesti Laul 2021

The Estonian national selection for Eurovision will be divided across three shows. Two semi-finals will take place on Thursday 18 February and Saturday 20 February. Each semi-final will see 12 acts battle it out, with the top six acts qualifying for the grand final on Saturday 6 March.

The first four qualifiers from the semi-finals will be decided by a 50/50 combination of jury votes and public votes. Then, the fifth and sixth qualifiers will be determined solely by the public in a run-off style second round of voting. The lucky half-dozen will advance to the final.

In the grand final, Estonia will choose its Eurovision 2021 act over two rounds of voting. First, a combination of public and jury votes will decide the top three acts to progress through to the super-final. Then, the Estonian public will vote again to elect their song and artist for Rotterdam.

Eesti Laul 2021 semi-final one airs on Thursday 18 February at 18:30 CET.

You know what, I’m going to say it. With the right staging, Egert Milder could contend for the win.
