Lesley Roy Maps

Avid social media users will have noticed that something was in the works. And sure enough, after a week spent sharing behind the scenes shots of her Eurovision music video shoot, Ireland’s Lesley Roy has revealed the name and release date of her song 2021 entry. “Maps” will arrive on Friday 26 February.

Lesley Roy will sing “Maps” at Eurovision 2021

Lesley made the revelation on Friday evening, on Twitter and Instagram. She shared a visual of her standing in the Irish countryside, presumably in Wicklow where she shot some of her music video earlier in the week. It’s simply captioned: “MAPS” Coming February 26th. It’s accompanied by a map emoji and an Irish flag.

Ireland’s Eurovision 2021 song to come on 26 February

After the cancellation of Eurovision 2020, Lesley was re-confirmed as Ireland’s representative last December. At the time, RTÉ revealed that the Irish-born, New York-based singer had an intense few months crafting the perfect song for the contest. She was digging down deep in Stockholm — and from those depths she landed what they promised to be a fierce songwriting collaboration.

“Lesley has spent the past three months in studio working on a new song to represent Ireland with, and Ireland’s Eurovision 2020 song has now been chosen and will be revealed in the New Year. The song was written and produced by Lesley, along with Eurovision producer Lukas Hallgren (“She got me”, 4th place ESC 2019), Philip Strand producer/songwriter Normandie, Deepend and Emelie Eriksson known as (EEVA) Stockholm based songwriter at Baggpipe Studios.”

Over the past few weeks, she has been dropping hints about the song while also sharing lots of behind the scenes shots on Instagram. On TikTok she confirmed that the song title had four-letters — we now know those to be m, a, p and s.

You know, she was 1 of the artists that really caught my eye last year.. She seems lovely! This sounds promising even though we know nothing.. Really gravitated to SOML last year but I somehow think and hope this will be amazing.. Good luck Lesley!!

Looks like the song might have a bit of a “rock” feel judging by the black leather. Looking forward to the video, it was filmed in the Wicklow mountains (and a nearby beach) on Monday and Tuesday.

As long as it’s better than the rubbish philly mcmahon said we’d still be singing a year later. We’re not, and no one remembers what it was, except very poor.

An opinion based on very little, but it seems like it could be very different to last year’s song. Slower.

Oh I am so excited! First I’m so happy that it’s a February release so we’re not completely drowning in march entries. Second I’m just really looking forward to the song. The music video looks beautiful and full on Irish and the fact that the Normandie frontman Philip Strand credited really hyped me up as I love a bit of rock and I adore their songs.

I love the positivity in the comments so far! Lesley deserves it, she is such a nice person and I really like Story Of My Life, so I am hoping she can offer up another great song!

It probably won’t sound anything like it (I don’t think) but I can’t hear the name “Maps” and not think of the transcendent Yeah Yeah Yeahs song, so hopefully it’s as good! (And let’s not bring up Maroon 5, please…)

Check out Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox’s cover of that latter song, performed by Morgan James. Excellent stuff, and funnily that’s all I can think of knowing Lesley’s song is now called Maps.

He does have a tendency toward taking songs I dislike and making them palatable (or taking songs I enjoy and making them even better!).

This is so exciting!!! I really hope this year is better than last because “soml” was really not good enough. The fact that the video is being shot in the wicklow mountains has me hopeful for some reason. I hope the song has something slightly “Irishy” in it and that it’s more slow than last year.

i may be wayyyyy off lol but baggpipe productions may be good at producing songs with bagpipes in them so we may get an irishy feel this year lol.

We won’t have Victoria’s song yet, but we’ll have new entries on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday! One per day, so we can give each of them the proper attention. One of the “latecomers” could take Monday and Sunday free slots and avoid being buried when March comes… just saying.

I’m excited to see and hear Lesley’s effort. I think the stunning scenery of Ireland could give KEiiNO’s video a run for its money!

I think the real question should be; can “Maps” give “Monument” a run for its money? I’m keeping my expectations mitigated. I’m not expecting anything from our song this year, but it’s really refreshing to not hear the over the top, “ThIs iS bEttEr tHAn EupHORia!!!” fan-wanky nonsense than accompanied “Story of My Life”. I hope that “Maps” is a song that’s worthy of qualifying and doing well in the final and that Lesley really has worked on her live vocals because those vocals on The Late Late Show when she performed “Story of My Life” in March last year… Read more »

You clearly don’t watch Irish-Eurovision media because if you did you’d know he didn’t say “it’s better than Euphoria” when asked, he said “it’s up there” (which it was- it was empowering for everybody). Also Lesley said that she wasn’t well the night she performed. She said it was one of her worst performances. I have a feeling this year she will go all the way!
