In just over a week’s time, eight acts will compete in Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2021 and hope to be selected as Denmark’s entry for Eurovision 2021. And now we know the running order in which we’ll see the acts perform on the night of the 6 March.

Danish broadcaster DR revealed the running order through a press notice. It sees Chief1 & Thomas Buttenschøn open the show with their entry “Højt Over Skyerne”. The remainder of the first half will feature Nanna Olivia, The Cosmic Twins and Claudia Campgnol.

Following on from them in the second half of the show will be Mike Tramp, Fyr & Flamme and Emma Nicoline. And finally, Jean Michel will round off proceedings with his song “Beautiful”.

  2. Nanna Olivia – “Hvileløse hjerter”
  3. The Cosmic Twins – “Silver Bullet”
  4. Claudia Campagnol – “Abracadabra”

DMGP 2021 odds: Fyr & Flamme are the bookies’ favourite to win

Now that the songs competing in Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2021 have been out for a couple of weeks, bookmakers have settled on their odds for who they think is most likely to walk away with the trophy.

As things stand, the odds are in favour of Fyr & Flamme and their 80s inspired song “Øve os på hinanden”. Unibet.dk have the duo sitting at odds of 2.25. They’ve also been given a strong position in the running order and will be performing sixth on the night.

However, it’s very close at the top, with the bookies seemingly thinking it could be a two horse race. The Cosmic Twins find themselves with ever so slightly wider odds of 2.35. Their song “Silver Bullets” is written by four-time DMGP winning songwriter Lise Cabble (1995, 2011, 2013, 2019). It seems like the bookies think there’s a strong chance The Cosmic Twins could make it number five.

How the odds work

The decimal odds number represents the amount you win for every krone/euro/dollar bet. The number represents the total payout, rather than the profit. Your stake is already included in the decimal number.

Taking odds of 1.90 as an example, for every €1.00 you bet, you will get back €1.90 if you win. This includes 90 cents profit plus your original one euro bet.

Bookmakers set odds by looking at factors such as prior form, statistics, historical precedents, expert opinion and any number of other elements which could influence the result in question. After this analysis, the bookies will be left with what they deem to be the most accurate possible true odds of any outcome occurring. As these factors are always shifting, the bookies’ odds will remain in flux.

Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2021: Show details

Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2021 is set to take place on Saturday 6 March at 20:00 CET. The show will be broadcast from DR Byen, the headquarters of Danish public broadcaster DR in Copenhagen.

This year, the show will be hosted by Tina Müller and Martin Brygmann. Tina Müller is best known in Denmark as a sports journalist and presenter. Meanwhile, Martin Brygmann is known as an actor, presenter and musician. In 2005, Brygmann co-wrote Sweethearts’ DMGP entry “I Must Be Crazy”. He has also previously appeared at DMGP as a member of the professional jury.

The results of DMGP 2021 will be decided entirely by the public – there is no jury. TV viewers will initially vote after all eight acts have performed. Three entries will then make it through to the superfinal. The public will vote once again between these three acts to determine the winner and the artist they want to wave the Danish flag at Eurovision 2021.

The popular live orchestra is also set to return. DR’s 15-person orchestra, led by conductor Peter Düring, will provide accompaniment for all eight acts as they perform on stage.

Chief & Buttenschøn seem to be growing on me, such a catchy retro tune and suites the Danish language perfectly. This would be good choice if they stick to Danish. I hope this or the Cosmic Twins proceed to the ESC in May. Fyr and Flamme is old school outdated ESC, and it will stay in the semi, not great in 2021, ideal for 1992.

That’s my favorite too, but if it wins, will it stay in Danish? I’m betting cosmic twins to win.
