Russia‘s broadcaster Channel One has been keeping quiet regarding their entry for Eurovision 2021. But now local media are ready to name names. According to Russian news site 360.tv, Russian group Little Big have been given the return ticket to Rotterdam.
It’s not out of the ordinary for Russia’s two Eurovision broadcasters to keep quiet about their Eurovision plans. And nor is it surprising when news starts to leak in the media.
According to 360.tv’s source, rave band Little Big has been internally selected to represent Russia at Eurovision 2021. The group was previously internally selected to represent Russia in 2020 with the song “Uno”.
But 360.tv’s source also claims that their song for Eurovision won’t be internally selected. The source says a national final will be held, where Little Big will present “several songs” and the Russian public will vote for their favourite.
The national final is supposedly set for Monday 8 March and will be presented by television host and regular Russian Eurovision commentator Yana Churikova. Yana currently hosted a weekly Eurovision-themed YouTube show so there is speculation this will also be used as the national final.
It is important to note that at this stage, Channel One, Little Big and the EBU have NOT confirmed any details of this so it remains media speculation.
Will Little Big represent Russia at Eurovision 2021?
Little Big were originally confirmed to represent Russia at Eurovision 2020. They were due to perform the song “Uno”, complete with iconic staging involving flared trousers and a vogueing dancer with slick kung-fu moves.
The song fast become one of the hot favourites to win Eurovision 2020 — with the music video becoming most viewed video ever on the official Eurovision channel. But sadly Eurovision 2020 was cancelled and the group never had the chance to face the public vote.
In the meantime, Little Big released the singles “Hypnodancer”, “Tacos” and “S*ck My D*ck 2020”. But are things looking up for 2021?
In November, moustachioed frontman Ilya “Ilich” Prusikin revealed that the group had not automatically been reselected for Eurovision 2021. He was hedging his bets, saying “We may write a song in the near future, and we will send a few songs and if it works out we will go.”
What do you think? Would you like to see Little Big back at Eurovision 2021? What sort of song should they take? Tell us your thoughts below!
I LOVE THEM !
I’m ready for it! Little Big’s song would be welcomed with open arms at this year’s contest.
Russia would be foolish to send anyone else. This is the comedic act we all need. I hope they call they’re new song “Dos”.
*pretends to be shocked*
This would be an ideal situation. Loved Uno last year!
Little Big, yes please! The jury will probably ignore them, but the people will love them. “Uno” was great! Hope they are able to come up with another such song.
We had some tv programme with juries who voted for song from Eurovision 2020 and Russia get good amount of points from juresi that was big surprise.
Der kleine Song Contest ORF Russia was 4th in Second semi with 14 countries 100% jurie .Eurovision 2020 – das deutsche Finale NDR , Russia was on 3 rd place (4 th with juries and 2nd with televote).Sveriges 12:a SVT , Russia was on 4 th place ( 9 th with juries and 4 th with televote).Okkar 12 stig RUV, Russia was on 2 nd place (100 % televote)
Poland and Russia this year may be surprise
What’s even better than having a Little Big song at ESC 2021? Having several of them to choose from. This will be a massive hit from Russia yet again! Yes, please and thanks! 🙂
They tease something in italian since days on their instagram, so after last year with spanish language I thought they would come with a song with italian this time. So let’s see but they will come with fun for sure.
And with their millions of followers, their millions of views, they are already so famous, that they will totally eat the televote, with Little big we can largely assume that we have already a top 3 assured in televote this year.
I am all about a NF selection show with just Little Big….how crazy would that be?
The odds have changed
Iceland is 1st now
France 2nd
Sweden 3rd
Russia 4th
And Lithuania 5th
Russia is 3rd now.
Lesley and Benny haven’t made gains with them despite their rave reviews, so I don’t think they should be trusted until rehearsals.
Should they ever? Even then, you’ll get a country like France making huge gains that added up to nothing
I agree. Let’s just see what non-fans/casual fans think.
The bookies already don’t reflect the eurofans tastes, their odds are made without taking in account the eurofans reactions or whatever they use others parameters totally, it represents the chances for a country to win, some countries has more chances than others that’s all, their rankings means nothing BUT could be a good indication on who risk to do well.
The bookmakers don’t take in account the fans reactions or reviews it doesn’t make sense, firstly because the fans and especially the eurofans are always changing their opinions, sometimes they even overplay a lot their reactions to hype their favourites or simply their countries entries (they try) you can see that on youtube or twitter, so their opinions is irrelevant and simply because the pure eurofans represent only a very little part of the eurovision global audience, the bookmakers don’t use the ogae or wiwi polls to make their predictions and rankings for example and they will never, moreover the… Read more »
France going from 5th to 2nd and Lithuania going from 2nd to 5th – like how does that so casually happen. Once again proving that odds are utterly useless until rehearsals. The bookies are lost.
And Norway finally slipping down.
Iceland and Russia don’t even have a song yet. It’s only based on how well their acts was recieved last year. And sometimes there is a sudden toss in the odds once an act have been revealed but then it can shift again.
no they are not so lost, but of course we have to wait the rehearsals in May, in 2014 and 2016, the odds failed to find the winner, in 2017 they failed before the rehearsals but after they were right, but I think they have learnt from their mistakes cause they have lost money, then in 2018, and 2019 they were right about the winners and the runner up, so I think in 2021 they know what they do. After looking odds since 2014, we can assume that the countries in the top 7 of the odds after that all… Read more »
2018 they failed to guess the winner. Cyprus was winner for them. Israel second with quite a big gap between them.
Yes but still the two first of the year, and Israël was pre contest favourite it has changed a little bit during the rehearsals and during the final show, that’s all, nothing significant, I haven’t seen the big gap you describe sorry. Between odds to win at 2 or at 3, at this rate the difference means nothing.
How is Sweden still in the top 5?
And moreover guys the 2 big esc odds checkers are oddschecker and eurovisionworld, but they have 2 different ways to rank the countries, in the first they rank according the biggest odd of each country, and in the second they add all the odds for each country and they use this result to rank them, so I prefer oddschecker it’s more accurate I think.
Let’s remember that at this point in time, odds mean Jack all. We’ve only got 13, later 14, sounds out and it’s really hard to predict. Let’s wait until every song is out.
13 songs out yes but we already know all the potentials songs for Sweden, Portugal, Denmark, Estonia, Bulgaria, some of Belarus songs too and Italy songs very soon. So we can assume that we already know the entire potentials of 18/19 countries and soon 20 countries, so the odds begin to be a little bit significant but not enough to make already conclusions.
What kind of crazy year is it that Russia, of all countries, is getting me very excited? I’m never excited by Russian entries! This is a nice change of pace.
Can anyone in Russia verify this or could it just be a national final? Yulia Savicheva says on her Insta that she’s been invited but I don’t think she mentions LittleBig anywhere…
Little Big for the win.Hope to have a good song.Love From Greece
Don’t pick Buzova, please!!
after this message Russia is rising like a phoenix in the odds ….. don’t ask me why. They are now on #4 position.
3rd now, Lithuania dropped to 5th.
2nd now
Are you sure that you don’t already know the contestant for Russia this year? You often know more beforehand.
Getting Little Big to return in 2021 with a new song = happy me.
Getting Little Big to return in 2021 with a selection of new songs to choose from = me dancing in the streets.
Let’s go, Russia!
Homophobic group from the most homophobic country in the world.
There is no place for acts like this in Eurovision.
It must be true. Everyone wants to see the match between The Roop, Gagnamagnid and Little Big, if it didnt happen in 2020.
well apparently Barbara Pravi has joined them
I just hope if they return, it’s with a song that’s as good as – or better than – Uno. Their subsequent singles have been pretty weak imo, especially Mamma Maria.
Mamma Maria is not their actual song, it’s a song from a famous Italian band “Ricchi e Poveri” – and I kinda love their cover.
Hypnodancer was good in my opinion.
Everyone act surprised and amazed. .
Game over Iceland. Moscow 2022
Little big have more fans, DDG had a better and more jury friendly 2020 entry.
Jury loves songs like Dance You Off, Toy and Friend of a Friend, and songs which represent the musical state of the art, and doesn’t like Schlager-rave.
If Russia won, I’d love to see the competition hosted in Sochi or SPB. There is life outside capital cities!
No sane European would let Russia win.
As a Russian citizen I just hope Russia won’t host Eurovision anytime soon. Using ESC (as well as the Olympics and FIFA World Cup) for promoting the fake image of a prosperous and welcoming place while being brutal towards the citizens and totally corrupted is abominable.
Whilst there were ugly calls against in at least 10 countries (though the worst it led to was Hate will prevail, which even I, no fan of screamo or far left, think is a BOP and one of the best of 2019), there were no exits from Israel’s ESCs (save for Turkey in 1979), but the atmosphere of Russia hosting in 2009 was made ugly by the war with Otessia, so could be hard now for Ukraine.
Little big can barely sing live, so we’ll see.
Well, this is the perfect year for them then…
The only one of the 3 remaining acts that I don’t passionately want to have a public song selection (I have regularly stated why I want one for Athena, and one for Alicija would be good, because she also seems to have a versatile repertoire and loud fans she engages well with, just like Athena is ace at), though they bring a lot to the table and will make the show interesting, particularly with their controversialism.
At this point, there are only 3 possibilities concerning Armenia:
1. They will either withdraw
2. They’ve already chosen Athena and her song is ready and they are waiting to release it by the last days.
3. They’ve chosen a completely different artist and the song will again be released in the last days.
However, considering that Athena is still in France, I am not really sure about her.
I have the same fears. I worry about the working to a tight schedule and travel difficulties and that those are perhaps why she isn’t announced, and also worry about the lack of scrutiny for any ideas, and that she isn’t known for working to such tight deadlines for unpublicised material, particularly when there is also choreo and an MV (though I have wondered if she could just send her recent ballad in such circumstances and has reposted at least once from fans asking for it to be her entry). She has continued to like and repost posts asking for… Read more »
By what I heard from some Armenian people that have close ties with the Armenian broadcaster Armenia has decided to not withdraw and that Athena is the act and her song is ready and she’ll go to Armenia soon for the music video and photo shoots (not sure if it’s a true information tho).
I’m a bit worried about the direct flights and quarantine, and I am sure that issues like these are why she hasn’t been announced yet and other acts have been linked, and the proactivity displayed towards other female soloists given first refusal hasn’t yet been displayed towards the best by a usually proactive nation. I have also seen several rumours about timings of her announcement (such as December, Jan 21, late Jan, Feb 10 and last or this week) that failed to come to fruition even though, travel aside, there is no reason why it shouldn’t be an act who… Read more »
Srbuk waa released on the last day wasnt she? Incredible song from 2019
Yes, but
a) she was the very first act named, back in November 30 2019, so was promoted for 3 and a half months
And b) the song and staging were a massive waste, and it will be a travesty if (IMO) the singer, writer and co producer best entry from an ex-soviet country Ever suffers the same fate.
All previous Armenian internal selections were done before late January, and Athena herself won a selection in mid February
Armenia is definitely withdrawing. I mean please, last autumn they were in a war, they even withdrew from Junior Eurovision 2020.
I hope it’s not true. I don ‘t like the group and their music
Russia will win the televote for sure!
I hope it’s true!
PLEASE!!
Didn’t they support anti Putin protests? I’d be surprised if they allow them back.
Russia is not Belarus.. There’s a bigger freedom to different opinions in Russia
You wish
Hilarious.
i’m pretty sure sergey lazarev has been doing that too for a while, and he’s been chosen twice
But did he voice his political opinions after May 2019?
A national final? When? In April? LOL
Read the text lol
It says 8 March lol
You can downvote me to the very ground, but my inner system can’t get it. In my world they would do great in some sort of parody show.
Omaga, let this be true!
I don’t like Russia 2020, but it’s more because I don’t like Little Big’s overall package. I’m on the fence on whether I should take them seriously or not.
I really hope they won’t return. Lithuania and Iceland will do this type of song much better, and Uno sounded obnoxious.
Totally agree – plus Iceland and Lithuania aren’t massive homophobes
So just for being born in Russia you are a homophobe now?
No, did you not see the video that went round last year? Them attending pride and using gay slurs to describe the people around them. Totally unacceptable
Little Big made a satiric video against the homophobia by the Russian governemnt. Doesn’t look like they hate LGBTQ+ to me.
You can deny it all you want. I know homophobia when I see it, and making satire about gays in one of the most homophobic countries is very bad taste.
Pride is supposed to be a safe space for us and they had no right to record that video. It was extremely uncomfortable to watch.
Finally, nothing about the video was funny so why would it be satire? Using gay slurs so casually is not funny. Completely goes against the inclusiveness of the competition.
Clearly you a) haven’t watched the video, b) didn’t understand the video or c) are straight and don’t care
praying it’s true
That would be great! By the way – are there only two countries who have not announced the artist yet? Russia and Poland? I’m not worried about Russia but Poland…
Neither has Armenia…
Armenia as well
Armenia is probably out.
Also Armenia
Poland is kinda already teasing their artist. I think it’s either Alicja or Krystian Ochman.
Belarus also has no confirmed artist
But they have a national selection, so we’ll just have to wait for that to take place.
