She’s the dark horse that’s won over a legion of fans with her passionate melodies and raw lyrics. But as Clara Klingenström prepares to go up against Eva Rydberg & Ewa Roos in Melodifestivalen 2021’s andra chansen round on Saturday, we take a look at the meaning behind “Behöver inte dig idag”.

Melodifestivalen 2021: Clara Klingenström “Behöver inte dig idag”
Clara Klingenström is a 25-year-old singer-songwriter from Gotland. This is her first time competing at Melodifestivalen, although she’s tried to take part on at least two previous occasions. In 2011 she participated in Webbjokern, the public qualifications for that year’s Melodifestivalen, with the entry “Mr Lonely Man”. She made it to the final of Svensktoppen Nästa (now P4 Nästa) with “It Makes Me Crazy” a year later. However, it was Terese Fredenwall who won the wildcard for Melfest 2013.
What do the “Behöver inte dig idag” lyrics mean?
What is “Behöver inte dig idag” (Don’t Need You Today) about? “If I would describe my song in one sentence, it would be: Goddamn revenge. I wrote the song when I had hit the bottom”, Clara explains to SVT. “But now, it’s time for revenge”. Revenge might be too strong a word for some. Because while Clara is certainly taking a no-nonsense approach to her break-up, she’s not actively seeking to destroy her former love.
Rather than dwelling on the past, Klingenström gets her own back by moving on. As the song progresses, we see her grow in confidence as she asserts her independence. That person, who she once relied upon so much, has become irrelevant. Clara finds the strength within herself to cut all ties as she realises that she can be her true self once more.

My heart favorite ? for me the best song out of the 28 songs.
Hardest duel for me, but I have to put the crazy grandma’s through. Had she been put against anyone else (other than Lillasyster), she would have been my clear favourite to go through.

First off, yes, for some reason SVT never prefers songs in Swedish. 🙁
Second, yes, the duels aren’t always paired in a way that allows most good songs to qualify. I would certainly like to see Klara H. and Paul Rey in the finals, but I’d prefer if they’d switch the other two duels, so both Clara K. and Eva & Ewa would qualify.
I hope she gets to the final. Love the grandmas but Clara’s song is so beautiful.

Nice lyrics, but the wacky old ladies will win.
Clara is the favorite now.. She’s way above them both in Spotify chart and at the odds..
But Sweden has an age-divided voting
And i really doubt that elder people there know about spotify or use it, so i just wish this duel didn’t exist they both are amazing
I really hope Clara wins the duel purely based on the Ewa & Ewa stans on here.. Would be so nice to see the reaction after everyone pretty much felt sorry for Clara since the duels were announced.
