On Saturday, Daði og Gagnamagnið had been due to present his Eurovision 2021 entry “10 Years”. But the surprise was spoiled when a leaked version of the song started appearing on social media yesterday. Now Icelandic broadcaster RÚV has spoken out about the leak, describing it as being “clearly theft”.

RÚV’s head of television Skarphéðinn Guðmundsson described the situation as upsetting but said that the Iceland team were still sticking with their release plans.

He also said that the broadcaster had contacted the Eurovision organisers wanting answers to how the leak happened. Guðmundsson explained, “What happened is that we submitted the song on Tuesday, when we were required to submit it to the Eurovision contest. And less than a day later it had been leaked, or it has leaked on the internet.”

While some Eurovision songs have been available prior to their scheduled debut due to releases on legitimate streaming platforms, in Iceland’s case the song appears to have been deliberately leaked.

“Something we can feel positive about”

Guðmundsson is also focusing on the positive side of the leak. He said, “It shows how great the anticipation is when it comes to how much people want to hear this song. That is something we can feel positive about, that there is a lot of excitement to hear the entry from Daði & Gagnamagnið this year.”

And the leak isn’t getting the Icelandic team down. Guðmundsson was philosophical about the situation, saying, “It’s impossible to trace it and all we can do is stick to our course and stay dignified. Daði is relaxed and we are relaxed and are holding course.”

RÚV’s current focus remains the official premiere of Daði & Gagnamagnið’s song “10 Years”. It will be presented on the music show Straumar, this Saturday 13 March from 20:45 CET.

RÚV also gave a preview of the group’s outfits for 2021. While still featuring the iconic pixel art portraits of the band members, the group are now wearing futuristic jumpsuits, ready for action.

In the post, the broadcaster wrote, “The new song will be premiered in the show Straumar on Saturday night. Make sure you put earplugs in your ears until then.”

Daði Freyr covers ‘Kim Possible’ theme song

Ahead of the launch of “10 Years”, Daði also took the time to get in a little promo on BBC Radio 1 — and it was for a good cause. Daði make an appearance in LOL-a-thon — the station’s 24-hour fundraiser in aid of the UK charity Comic Relief.

As part of the Unexpected Song Challenge, Daði performed a cover of Christina Milian’s “Call Me, Beep Me!”, the theme song of the hit 2000s cartoon series Kim Possible.

He took things a cappella, using layers of Daði vocals, including beatboxing, to deliver a slick cover of the cartoon theme song.

What do you think? Do song leaks spoil the fun? What other songs would you like to hear Daði cover? Tell us your thoughts below!

How can you accuse theft on March 12? Just release it already, you will be last in semifinal anyway.

It’s not as good as last year. Prepare for a big drop in the odds.

I’ll wait until tomorrow when 10 years is officially so I can make my proper opinion on the song. I’m not going to seek out the leak.

I think it is a great track and they are a breath of fresh air. It is lo-fi electronic pop. Makes a change from the overproduced, overblown and overwrought offerings this year, which have been pooled from a team of 16 writers, usually Swedish, who pass their tracks around in the hope some country takes it, as easy as car keys get mixed around at a naughty party.

They’ve tried to recreate Think About Things so hard. Now it sounds like a parody rather than a new song. I thought this would be my potential winner, but now I can’t even see it in my Top 5.

That’s why Little Big withdrew. They didn’t want to repeat themselves and fail the expectations.

Are they expecting another child? Would be a bonus on a stage 😀

If Tusse wins then 6 MAYBE . Dotter to me is another random not special pop song and I didn’t enjoy Eric as his vocals sounded weak , outfit funny and dancing just a no from me.

Your top 5 is not going to be anything close to what the juries will decide. Norway is NQ.

yeah I agree, Greece is the better of the two by far, I’m just saying the songs are quite similar, not equally good!

It’s hard to make an opinion, it’s definetely a song that needs a visual to be really effective, so I will wait until saturday night to judge it with the overall package, so I mean the leak is not so serious.

Respect for RUV’s attitude… focusing on the silver lining and not getting too mad about a situation unfortunately now beyond their control.

I for one am not going to listen to the leaked song until it’s official release date! It just seems respectful to me.
Anyway, I prefer to wait until all the songs are released and listen to them all at once. It’s hard to wait, but I don’t want to get sick of any of them because of over-listening before the contest.

It would be very kind indeed if us fans (assuming that people who upload or post leaked material are Eurovision fans) could literally wait for ONE second – or do you unwrap your Christmas gifts on December 23rd? I never got why “fan channels” need to upload official stuff…

Unrelated to the article, but do we know something more about tomorrow’s Polish song release? It’s supposed to be presented in the morning show ‘Pytanie na ?niadanie’, but since this is broadcasted between 7:30 and 11:15, it would be nice to know more exact time (no way I’m gonna watch it for almost four hours).

Either it’s gonna be completely random or they’ll keep it as a way to close the show. Depending on how much they’re hyped about it and how much they want people to stay through talking about family, tradition and how amazing TVP is before they actually hear the song.

And there I am, a guy who actually haven’t hear any of released songs. Haven’t watched any preselections either. I wanted to do this for a long time. Can’t wait for last country to reveal what they got. I wonder if San Marino, France, Switzerland and UK are really that good.

I suppose it’s like years ago, when the videos were shown on television in the week or two before the contest – I remember first hearing Selma and Charlotte Nilsson that way…but I was a child back then, I would not be able to do that now.
