She’s the 18-year-old star who fans of Junior Eurovision and Eurovision have watched mature into a vocal powerhouse. And later today Destiny will show the world what she’s been up to in recent months as she unveils her Eurovision 2021 song for Malta. Her video goes live at 17:00 CET.
Ahead of the release, Maltese broadcaster TVM kindly let us watch her official music video via a Zoom call. What we saw was an explosion of colour and style, with bright costumes and high energy. The sound smacks of The Charleston dance craze which was popularized in the 1920s. Some may associate that sound with Electro Velvet at Eurovision 2015, but this is an elevated, more contemporary take on the genre.
Fans often associate Destiny with the big soul sound of her song “Not My Soul”, and she’s frequently drawn comparisons to Aretha Franklin (who she famously covered on Britain’s Got Talent). But with her Eurovision 2021 song we’re getting more of a Beyoncé vibe — replete with the themes of female empowerment.
This past Monday, the “All of My Love” singer took to Instagram to celebrate International Women’s Day, posting a series of photos featuring the women who inspire her. One of the photos featured the caption “ladies, if you feel like flaunting tonight, it’s alright” — which some fans speculated could be a lyric from Malta’s Eurovision 2021 song. And they’d be right. There is a clear call for women to be strong and live life on their own terms.
Are you excited to watch Destiny’s official video in a few hours? Are you glad that she’s playing in a new genre? Let us know what you’re thinking in the comments box down below.

Where the release is set to be? I couldn’t find it on YT. :c

See you in Bern.

Sounds like Malta not in contention anymore.
Anything similar to electro velvet.
Come on Malta show us the video!!
Why does your video review look like pre-emptive damage control?
No guys, the charleston and the comparison to Electro Velvet is not the best way to build hype around this song. In fact, you scared the hell out of us! But maybe it’s a matter of reverse psychology? You’ve used the worst way to describe it so that we’re all surprised and speechless at a possible contender while listening to it? We’ll see…
I know this is totally off-topic, but am I the only one that really doesn’t like Switzerland THAT MUCH this year? Like sure, it’s a great song in comparison to most of the other songs this year, but I don’t get the hype about it being ‘the contender / one to beat’ this year. We already had a sad-ish song (I’m sure there’s better ways to describe it) win in 2019, pls i don’t want another one this year lol.
it’s good and it’s for sure top 5 entry. Though I think Bulgaria has it in the bag this year, don’t see any other country winning.
Bulgaria would not win even if they participated alone.
well which country could win in your opinion?
lol, so true
I can totally see Bulgaria NQ, no joke. It’s a total snooze fest and people will want to dance and have fun. My money’s on either a bop or a rock song to win this year.
Bulgaria ? lol
So Switzerland can not win because Arcade already won last time and Bulgaria will. Super logic.
No, I don’t get the hype either. It’s a total copy of Arcade, especially the ending. I also don’t get the hype around Iceland tbh.
lol it’s not a copy, they are quite different songs.
I agree with you! I prefer other songs.
This year there’s no country that screams “Winner” and maybe people see him as the closest one.
The one I’m rooting for is France. It’s definitely the most unique of all the songs her voice is outstanding and she is absolutely beautiful like a porcelain doll. The first time I hear that song with her singing in what looked like her living room I got goosebumps all over my body and no other song gave me that. The video instantly gave me a feeling of what could possibly be happening in people’s apartments during lockdown that we missing out on. Think about the amount of Barbara’s there are practicing their music in their homes all over the… Read more »
Barbara and Maneskin could also win beside Victoria. Others I doubt.
I agree as well. I prefer Bulgaria over Switzerland. I think there are many pleasant songs to listen to this year, but no clear favorite imo. Actually I do like this year’s selection quite a lot, it’s more diverse this year than it has been for many years, and a lot of great Balkan songs as well. I still kinda miss one that I really enjoy playing on repeat, I haven’t found that yet.
That’s exactly how I feel this year
I felt the same about the Netherlands last year tbf. But it’s exactly this reason that I’m glad the Jury vote is there – Switzerland isn’t my personal cup of tea, but I can see it is a very beautiful, powerful song and I think it deserves the points it is (very probably) going to get from the juries. As for a televote winner? I’m not so sure.
I thought this is a SONG contest about the best winning SONG.
“oh we already have had a slow song win”
pathetic
I really liked ‘All of my Love’ but the charleston thing scares me a bit. Ah wel, we’ll see.
Okay, lets not panic here, yes, modern charleston can be a hot mess like with Electro velvet but it can aslo be great, like with the song closer by Lemaitre: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eS_korRhTDk&ab_channel=LemaitreVEVO
Or bang bang by will I am. Charleston but a frigging bop!
i have a problem with the feathers, it’s for birds not for people
the genre has me worried. Hope it’s Symphonix behind it tho..
Unrelated Topic, Mata Hari is uploaded now in Youtube ESC official channel
Electro Velvet Vibes
Never has a scarier comparison been made.
Yep we are all genuinely scared now
Does anyone have a link to a Leak? 😉
hmmmm
I loved Electro Velvet so fingers crossed for a banger!
Agree with you, but Electric Velvet was not successful. I want Destiny to do well. Hope for a genius creation, to challenge Swtzerland and so many others. Bets are so irelevant this year with many songs that can win.
I’m happy that is something new for her, but I pray is not Electric Velvet.
You guys tend to give pretty positive coverage to acts that give you exclusives to be fair.
I didn’t like her song last year but like her a lot. I’m hoping that this song is going to be great but more Beyonce, less Aretha is not the way I’d like her to be leaning in order to achieve that.
Oooo, controversial… Love it! 😉
I also listened to the leaked (again, huh…) Maltese song and I wonder why they did actually delay that much for this masterpiece
How do you rate what you have heard? In with a chance for the win?
After it’s official release it is 100% going in my top 3, maybe my favourite in this year, but I’ll wait 5 more hours for the official release, if the leaked song is acually the real one.
If Michela managed to finish 14th, she can easily be in the top 10, by the times this is surely a jury friendly song, but for the televoters I have no clue.
Hi. Can you describe it then? Nice competent track or actually truly a contender for the win?
The best way I can describe it is a contemporary bop, with beautiful vocals. A song we would totally listen to the radio and dance to it. A totally different approach of Destiny.
I cannot say if she can surely win, but knowing she never disappoints us in vocals she has a chance to win in this weird year.
But Malta has overall problem with televotes so I doubt that she will win, but she can be in the top 5-10 of the juries easily.
The Charleston?!
Also Azerbaijan got released and I’m so happy about that
About Cleopatra 2.0? 🙂
Yeah, exactly. They kept Cleopatra’s elements and brought something else. I’m worried only for the staging about that
Like Switzerland…Archade 2.0.
That was almost clickbait as you really couldn’t show much 🙂
Anyway seems I might like this upbeat by a great singer sounds promising.
They shared what they could share. I like people who do that.
I do hope this delivers . Would love to see Switzerland, Malta battle it out in the end .
Two countries that have had very mixed and mostly less than successful fortunes in Eurovision in recent past . A turn around for many of the underdogs this year hopefully
At least it’s something different
