At the Eurovision Song Contest, there obviously can be only one winner. The field of talented singers and beautiful genres is widespread this year.

Thirteen male solo singers will compete in Rotterdam in May 2021, as well as 17 female solo singers, seven (possibly eight) bands, one duo and one trio. Today, we want to have a look at the male solo acts. Maybe the overall winner is among them?

If one of the male acts will win this year, who should it be? Will it be Uku Suviste for Estonia? Are The Netherlands going to hold another Eurovision in 2022 thanks to Jeangu Macrooy? Or will you all raise your voices for Sweden’s Tusse?

You can vote for whoever you want and for as many singers as you like. But you can only vote one time, so think about it and make your vote count!

Eurovision 2021 – Male Solo Acts

Poll: Who is your favourite male solo singer of Eurovision 2020?

[polldaddy poll=10773672]

Will the overall winner be a male soloist? Which one is your favourite? Let us know in the comment section below!

The best Falsetto goes to Gjons tears, but my favourite singer here Is James Newman.
That growly, gritty vocal range is pretty sexy.

They’re all excellent in their own way though. Vasil is incredible and technical and Tornike is undeniably able to sing a rock song or a ballad (plus he’s hot. Sadly he looks like an ex of mine!).

Great diverse range of male soloists this year.

Tix, Tix and thrice Tix 🙂
And ofc Blas is my very heartwarming option too.

As much as I appreciate the representation, it should make zero difference to a song contest.

They’re all good. The best technical singers are probably Vasil and Blas Cantó, with Gjon’s Tears providing a unique emotional tone that I really like. For deeper voices, Tornike and Uku seem to be able to go deeper, but there aren’t a lot of bass vocal driven songs this year.

And the song is cute!

Question: Is Eurovision’s Next Top Male Model still a thing? Or it has been canceled?

In my opinion, it’s outdated, and it should have been cancelled a long time ago.

Agreed. I would suggest a new category – the ‘Most Age-Inappropriate’. It could be for a teenager singing a song with content just a little too adult or a 45 year singing a song that really only works when coming from someone under 25.

Easy question – Gjon‘s Tears for me all the way. But I also like Tusse from Sweden – both are very sweet talented young men I think

Hopefully, all of them. Only Jeangu and Vasil are gay, and Blas is bisexual, as far as I’m aware. Not that their orientation matters, though.

We should never just assume somebody is hetero just because it hasn’t been announced otherwise. They don’t have to explain themselves to us, and like you say, it’s irrelevant.

In theory, you are right. However, since 90-95% of all people are hetero, it’s an assumption based on probability. But yeah, as it’s someone’s own, private thing, nobody should feel the pressure to disclose anything. It wouldn’t change their worth as artists or people anyway, but it’s theirs to tell it or not.

I don’t think it’s ever a fair assumption. Parents making that assumption is exactly what makes it so hard for a lot of gay people growing up. It’s a bad habit.

People always assume things and it’s perfectly normal. That’s how we are able to identify world around us as soon as possible. Without it, we would feel confused not knowing who anyone is or what anything is. Assumptions are based on probability. The bigger the probability, the more certain the assumption. On this scale, guessing a sexual orientation has enough percentage to have some grounded bases, but it’s not big enough to bet your money on it. The important thing here is accepting that sometimes we are wrong and when that happens, accept it and go along with the new… Read more »

That does make sense, and I mostly agree. It’s just this particular assumption that bothers me, especially when it can last from birth until you’re an adult. Little gay boys put on soccer teams when they’d rather be at ballet with their sister, that kind of thing. Boys and girls might be incredibly gay even as young children, but their parents make this assumption so deeply that they fail to notice. You said only Vasil and Jeangu were gay. I had thought at least two others were as well, and I’m just not sure why we would need to wait… Read more »

No need to apologize, Jonas. I totally get what you are saying. I hope I didn’t feel like too nagging, either. Sometimes I write long comments so there wouldn’t be reading between the lines and just make it convoluted in the process. I agree, kids should be raised to embrace their interests and sexuality in a way that feels natural to them. Whether gay boys play soccer or ballet or whether straight boys do should be up to them and for parents to endorse. 🙂 Also, you are righ that the margin of error is too big when it comes… Read more »

I am pretty sure you wrote it with good intentions but you are reinforcing stereotypes here.
Some little boys like playing football and some little boys like doing ballets. Nothing to do with the fact that they are gays or straights.

I did think of that last night, but I was tired and told myself that because it was a real-life example it was okay. The hetero little girl in the story actually would have preferred to be playing soccer, so this little boy was aware of that way of thinking even back then. It’s all part of the same problem – narrow-mindedness.

1 to 3 por cent of the adult population is gay, however it’s very hard to know the proportion of bisexual men. Some people talk about 5, 10, 20 por cent, while some argue that we are all bisexuals at some point in our lives. Just look for the Old Greeks, Persian, Celts and Romans.

TIX is the most iconic male soloist we have seen so far. Of course, someone we have not seen yet may eclipse him on the stage but they are going to have to put on quite a show to beat him.

Perhaps. Although I don’t find Tusse’s performance particularly iconic? TIX’s show is so deliberately extravagant that I think it deserves more of an iconic status. Every detail has a purpose and a meaning that resonates, at least with me.

Tusse’s whole appearance and performing style are not gender typical, male or female – for me, that’s enough in itself. Talent too, of course…

I am sure this is an obvious statement, I suppose iconic status is conferred on things that we particularly connect with as individuals? The gender theme is honestly something that I had not considered but now you point it out I can see how some would find this iconic. I think I personally connect more with the fallen angel idea – there are themes of consumerism, modernity, disability, self-confidence which have more connection for me in TIX’s entry. And visually it is incredibly striking.

Agreed. That song does little to showcase his talent. A great pop song has to either make you sing, make you dance or make you swoon before the end of the first listen. This does none of these, no matter how well he sings it.
