Omaga! We have news about Benny Cristo‘s staging in Rotterdam. Taking to Instagram, the Czech delegation has released details of the choreographers and teased what we can expect in May. The key themes are energy, diversity and fun.

Benny Cristo’s Eurovision 2021 choreography

Benny’s dance team will design the performance, as well as dance on stage with him. They are Robin (aka DJ FUUSE) and Alberto Gola. The team are from Projekt AWA (Art with Attitude), a project based in Prague which has worked with Benny previously. Speaking to ESCZ, they had plenty to tease about how they came up with the moves and themes.

The artistic pair discussed their inspiration. Firstly, they say that “the song itself is very energetic and it gives off a great vibe, so we wanted to bring that vibe into the dance”. They “based it off dance styles that are dear to [them]” which “correspond with the energy of the song”. They combined a wealth of dance styles together to create a show with broad influences, which will surely have mass appeal!

FUUSE and Alberto also talk about how they looked at previous Czech staging for inspiration. They specifically noted Mikolas Josef’s 2018 success with “Lie To Me”. Mikolas’ two dancers brought modern dance into the show, doing some risky moves which eventually worked out, getting Czechia their best ever result at the contest. They say they “didn’t go into detail for inspiration, but wanted to give it a different dimension”.

The Czech Republic’s overall stage show will be overseen by Marvin Dietmann. Dietmann is behind many iconic stage shows, including Conchita’s 2014 winning “Rise Like A Phoenix” performance.

The choreo duo were asked how they feel about the pressure of going to Eurovision in Rotterdam. They talked of some pretty heavy nerves, saying the contest will be “probably the largest crowd [they] will have ever had”.  Alberto said they “definitely got the jitters, but rightly so and [they] wouldn’t do without them”.

They moved on to say that as they haven’t been able to see audiences face-to-face in a while, and still won’t in Rotterdam, they know how many people will be watching at home. However, they are using this as a positive, saying “it’s a nice push, like ‘you can’t mess it up now, this is important”.

Trust me, Omaga will be the dark horse of 2021. It is a catchy song and I think will do quite well. Good luck!!!!

yep, i really don’t get why the bookies rate him this low. it clearly has mass appeal and might be the most contemporary song of this year’s bunch. if the live performance lives up to the potential of the whole package, i predict this will ‘michael schulte’ it’s way up to the bookies’ top five after the semifinal.
