In May, Blas Cantó will represent Spain with the Spanish-language ballad “Voy a quedarme”. But now he’s showing fans a different side by releasing the English version of his Eurovision 2021 song, titled “I’ll Stay”.

Blas released the song today, to celebrate there being less than one month to Eurovision 2021. Writing on Instagram, he said, “It’s 30 days to the Eurovision grand final and we want to celebrate with the English version of VAQ.”

The video of “I’ll Stay” features Blas singing the song, accompanied by Spanish musician Alberto Vela on piano.

Blas is also preparing a French version of “Voy a quedarme”, and teased la version française in a recent interview with wiwibloggs.

Blas Cantó – “I’ll Stay” music video

While the English lyrics of “I’ll Stay” are not a direct translation of “Voy a quedarme”, the English version does still capture the central message and themes of the original.

The song is a message of loyalty, with Blas saying “I made a promise to hold you forever by the hand / And that I won’t ever let go / So don’t worry here, I stand”. While on the surface the song does appear to refer to a romantic partner, it could also just as easily apply to a close relationship with a loved one.

While Blas will perform the original Spanish lyrics for his Eurovision 2021 performance, the English version of the song allows English-speaking fans to understand the song on a deeper level.

Blas Cantó – “I’ll Stay” lyrics

I’ll just stay the night so I can hear your voice again
Give me a memory
To hold onto now and then

I’ll just stay a little more and morning’s slipping in
And I have missed your touch
Drawing circles on my skin

Looking to the sky to only realise
The most precious thing I wanted here
Was laying right before my eyes

I made a promise to hold you
Forever by the hand
And that I won’t ever let go
So don’t worry here, I stand

To remind you like the first time
I will always love you more than yesterday
And no matter what, I’ll stay
And no matter what, I’ll stay

Sometimes I get insecure and all up in my head
But I know that what we have
Nobody will ever bend

And although we may well trip and fall time after time
I’ll be there through it all
And stay with you until the end

Doesn’t matter if the world falls apart
Or whatever comes tomorrow
I will always keep you in my heart

‘Cause I made a promise to hold you
Forever by the hand
And that I won’t never let go
So don’t worry here I stand

To remind you like the first time
I will always love you more than yesterday
And no matter what, I’ll…

Be your shelter when the sky is falling
The flame to light your darkest moments
No matter the distance I’ll be close

I made a promise to hold you
Forever by the hand
And that I would never let go
So don’t worry here I stand

To remind you like the first time
I will always love you more than yesterday
And no matter what, I’ll stay

What do you think of “I’ll Stay”? Should Blas perform the English version in Rotterdam? Or should he stick with the Spanish lyrics? Tell us your thoughts below.

Blas seems such a lovely guy, and I hate that he’s stuck with this very bland material. He is so much better than this song, but unfortunately I can’t see Spain coming higher than bottom 5 this year. I will be the first to cheer if they do, I would love Spain to have a good year, but I am being realistic.

This English versión is amazing! It keeps the essence of the original, with great lyrics too. In fact, very touching, and hope Blas delivers a similar poignant version in May. I also hope this version helps all those ignoring our European cultural richness to realise what an amazing composition Voy a Quedarne is.

It’s not about language, it’s about different song since it’s an acoustic version.
I hope that revamped song will sound similar to it.

And btw, I still prefer Spanish and I’m glad that he confirmed that he won’t change it.

I think Ukraine should come last because of that annoying white voice.

I like the this version better than the original one, it’s more intimate and emotional. Change the lyrics to Spanish and you have a possible Top 15, or Top 10 even, with an outstanding staging. It’s very touching.

Mr. Vanilla Bean has no respect for anyone’s dead family members as long as MVB dislikes the song that was written and dedicated for them.

What is even wrong with you? In which world do you think it is ok to complain about someone’s accent? It is because people like you that a lot non-native English speakers are afraid to speak English in public. If that’s all need to say, just stay silent.

You have some serious problems with Blas, as it seems.

We’ve already heard you, there is no need to spread your hate on him on every single article, it’s getting boring.

And btw, I love this song, I think it’s beautiful and it’s in my 6th place. Imagine that but we all have different taste.

His face expressions are real and that Ukranian dude is creepy.

This was better than I expected it to be. Convinced me so much that I’m not against an English chorus being thrown into the final version if that’s the way Spain want to go.

Usually i don’t like English translations but like Norway this really works. I think if this is sung in English in the final it will have a greater impact with viewers. That said the original is a beautiful song

I think this song is very touching. I don’t get all the hate to be completely honest. Not a winner but clearly not among ghe worst.

I love Voy A Quedarme and this version doesn’t dissapoint at all. The lyrics are so beautiful and really touching. Blas himself seems like such a sweet person too.

Well, at least the song is better than the Spanish version but I really don’t think this would end up higher than 24th either… The main problem with the English version is the lack of emotion Blas’ pronunciation has, I think
