Eden Alene teases Eurovision dress
Israel’s Eden Alene has shared a teaser of one of the dresses she’ll be bringing to Rotterdam for Eurovision 2021. The “Set Me Free” singer re-posted an image she was tagged in by fashion designer Alon Livine to her Instagram stories. It shows a sketch of a pale pink dress with “Eurovision 2021” written beside it. No more details are given, but it could possibly be the dress that Eden will wear on the red carpet. (Jonathan)
Junior Eurovision star is a stand-in
She represented the Netherlands at Junior Eurovision one year before Stefania and the same year Destiny won for Malta. And now Shalisa is returning to the song contest… in a way. The “Million Lights” singer is one of the stand-in performers for the tech rehearsals which are taking place before the delegations arrive on Saturday. Could the devil emoji in her selfie from inside the Ahoy arena be a clue as to what song she was practicing?

Daði Freyr plays Eurovision songs at JúróDaði 2
He teased us with Little Big’s “Uno” last week. And over the weekend Iceland’s Daði treated fans to yet more Eurovision favourites during his 30-minute JúróDaði 2 online concert, the sequel to last year’s inaugural event. The set included reimaginings of Lena’s “Satellite”, Sirusho’s “Qele, Qele” and Blanche’s “City Lights”.
Eldar for the Wiwi Jam At Home
He was “Running Scared” during Eurovision 2011…and then he ran back on stage to lift the winner’s trophy for Azerbaijan. Now song contest winner Eldar will lift a mic at the Wiwi Jam at Home concert. On May 19, Eldar will mark the tenth anniversary of his victory with a special performance during our YouTube concert. His Eurovision passion still burns bright in the Land of Fire. (William)

Jendrik censors performance after a stray penis upsets fan
Jendrik was one of several Eurovision artists to perform at the ES PreParty two weeks ago. And while most fans witnessed a fun, vibrant performance filled with laugher and good vibes, one eagle-eyed fan saw something else — a stray graffiti penis in the background. And after clutching their pearls in shock horror, they went on share their displeasure directly with the German singer. As a result, Jendrik re-uploaded a “censored” version of the performance to YouTube with the offending drawing blurred out. Tusse meets Loreen
Tusse is a long-time fan of Eurovision 2012 winner Loreen, and has made his love for her known on many occasions. And on Monday, he achieved a long time dream when he came face to face with his Idol. He and the “Euphoria” songstress were both guests at Sweden’s annual Unicef Gala fundraiser. Tusse also performed “Voices”.

Netta backs Manizha
Eurovision 2018 victor Netta is backing Russia’s Manizha for Eurovision 2021. In a brief video filmed on the streets of Israel, the “Toy” hitmaker declares “Manizha, your song is dope! F***ing dope!”. When her acquaintance declares that the “Russian Woman” singer will win, Netta agrees with a “hell yeah!”.

The Mamas are rooting for Destiny
Meanwhile, up in Sweden, Melodifestivalen 2020 winners The Mamas are throwing their support behind Malta’s Destiny. The “Move” trio danced to “Je Me Casse” in a TikTok, writing: “Queen @destinyofficial_x , we’re rooting for you mama!!!!”.

Gjon’s Tears performs “Tout l’univers” at the hairdressers
He performed on Spanish TV some weeks back, but Switzerland’s Gjon’s Tears has been relatively quiet ever since. To make up for his absence from the various online pre-parties, Gjon recorded a new live version of “Tout l’univers” from, if his caption is to be believed, the hairdressers.

The tease of Eden’s dress is possibly for the red (turquoise) carpet and not for the Eurovision stage.

Well if I was finding it hard to connect with Gjon’s Tears after his total snub of the online pre-parties, at least now I can totally relate to him as someone who also visits hairdressers with a grand piano in the waiting lounge.
I don’t know why Jendrik bothered with any of that, and dwelling on the thought makes me wonder if he’s, in a way, quite a vulnerable person. I’d hoped his video about Benny was part of his zany humour rather than an earnest attempt at meeting him, but now I think it’s probably the latter. Seems like he could do with some guidance and support.
Honestly, I think he is just a nice small-pond fish who is now in a much, much bigger ocean. He’s like the friendly guy who works at your corner coffee shop whose band suddenly makes it big. He gets repeatedly (lazily) referred to a social media product, but I actually don’t think he did much social media prior to his Eurovision campaign. He doesn’t have the polish of the contestants with established music contracts or experience competing on The Voice, and I really enjoy his participation this year all the more for that.
That person who wrote to him has a lot of time on their hands if they are so concerned about something like that in a music video…
