Norway’s Eurovision 2021 representative TIX has finally spread his wings on the stage of Rotterdam’s Ahoy arena. Our own William Lee Adams caught up with the “Fallen Angel” singer following his first rehearsal. Listen to what he had to say below!

Interview: TIX at Eurovision 2021

TIX was clearly ecstatic to meet up with the team, singing on top of a chair as William entered the interview room. Once he came down to earth, TIX began by sharing his realistic first impressions of his rehearsal. “I always doubt myself. Right now, I feel it was at 50%, but this is just a practice run and we’re going to make the show a lot better.”, he states.

“And next time it probably won’t be ten in the morning, so I’ll get to warm up before. This is the first time I’ve played a concert at ten in the morning. It was really weird.”, TIX quips.

The performance was tweaked ever so slightly from the one we saw at Melodi Grand Prix, but it kept most major elements the same. A streamlined silver jumpsuit replaces the heavy gold jewellery. Meanwhile, the backdrop changes colours more often, aiming to amplify the story behind the demons, chains, and angel costume.

TIX explains, “The whole story is about a fallen angel, this creature with all this beauty that still fails to recognize its own beauty. It’s about being your full self, even though that’s not really myself. It’s about being extra, and not just allowing people to be a little extra but encouraging it to. And that’s what’s so amazing about Eurovision, it’s encouraged to be extra.”.

The Norwegian delegation have been encouraged to go as far as possible in building the pathos of the performance, with TIX not being afraid to tell the demonic dancers to tug hard on the chains.

In our reaction video of the rehearsal, wiwiblogger Suzanne points out that the climax of the song features a beam of light that represents TIX’s “ascension”, really driving the message as it harks to a Broadway musical number with a heavy emotional, yet rousing energy.

Did you enjoy TIX’s interview? Will he be able to fly through to the final? Let us know in the comment section below!

TIX socially distanced flirting with Efendi is everything this year’s Eurovision needed

I don’t think we’ll see a funnier moment in this year’s Eurovision than TIX vibing with “Mata Hari” out of nowhere!

Can someone explain Tix’s messages to Efendi? He seems obsessed with her (in a good way though)

wow so much positive coverage for TIX, how things have turned since MGP.

Anyway, he’s a nice guy and the song is good but the staging is awful and kitsch!

I’m glad you finally see it…but now I’m also wondering what has happened to you today. Were you touched by Ana Soklic?

That would be nice! I prefer Philip Pullman’s idea of angels as huge, towering, almost terrifying, structures—so awesome and powerful that you don’t want to look at them. As long as they sound like Ana though!
