From rocking it in Sanremo to literally lighting a fire on the stage in Rotterdam, Italy’s representatives Måneskin have wrapped up their first rehearsals for Eurovision 2021. Our William caught up with the “Zitti e Buoni” performers right after.

Interview: Måneskin at Eurovision 2021

The four-piece band, comprised of the main singer Damiano David, drummer Ethan Torchio, guitarist Thomas Raggi and bassist Victoria De Angelis have certainly made an impression at their first rehearsal, They showcased pure stadium rock power with their high-octane song “Zitti e Buoni”, between striking fashion choices and heavy pyrotechnics.

But away from the stage, the foursome are pretty down-to-earth and happy to talk about how they march to their own rhythm and style in their everyday lives. “It’s just the way we dress, it’s just to give the message of freedom and that is okay to do whatever we like,” Victoria explains. Damiano adds that he wasn’t this confident with his self-expression and fashion, but that all changed when the group was formed. “Overall, it’s about not always letting you be put in a box by critics, and be unafraid to express yourself with clothes, makeup or music.”

The band wasn’t always this big headlining act, as the quartet share their origin story as buskers in the streets of Rome. “At the beginning, it was really embarrassing. We played in the main street in Rome, and you had to take all your instruments and place them on a  spot, and dealing with people calling the police or fighting against other buskers.”

“”Zitti e Buoni” is just a statement of what we want to do. We’re ready to play our music and we don’t care what people are going to say, we’re going to be authentic.” Damiano recalls the song’s message as a mantra that helped them get through Sanremo, as they felt it was a more risky package to send to the Italian contest.

I’m rooting for Italy! I just wish I don’t jinx Maneskin in the same way I jinx all the Masked Singer contestants (whether from USA, UK or Spain) I root for.

That’s the best way to achieve something great at Eurovision. Being yourself and sharing your own music

I saw today on instagram that blind channel and måneskin met each other! Måneskin gifted them their signed album and Blind channel gave a bottle of koskenkorva (vodka) in return. Now I’m crossing my fingers and waiting them to release a song together.

I am Team Italy or San Marino this year! No matter who wins, we’ll be going to Milan 🙂
