Greece’s Stefania had her first rehearsal for Eurovision 2021 on Monday, when we finally got to see her take to the Rotterdam Ahoy stage. Later on in the day, our William had the chance to interview Stefania in person.

The “Last Dance” singer told us about her first rehearsal, the story behind her complex staging and her sparkly purple jumpsuit.

Interview: Greece’s Stefania at Eurovision 2021

Running up to Eurovision 2021, Stefania describes that having to make a new song was challenging. The only thing she asked Dimitris Kontopoulos was to make it 1980s inspired. And with “Last Dance”, that’s what she got.

In between, she also managed to talk to the Netherlands’ entrant Jeangu Macrooy. She chatted to the “Birth of a New Age” star over the internet but said that she has not met him in person yet.

Stefania describes meeting Eurovision 2008 star Kalomira as “amazing”, saying that “she’s awesome”. Next to that, she received messages from stars as Konstantinos Argryros, who she describes as her celebrity crush. Eurovision stars Tamta, Helena Paparizou and Sakis Rouvas also sent her regards.

Stefania on Eurovision staging: “It’s a mysterious performance and that’s what I really love”

There definitely is a lot going on stage during Stefania’s performance. It will certainly be a feast for the eyes. However, for Stefania and her dancers, the stage performance is quite hard to do. Stefania tells us that there is a lot going on during those three minutes.

Stefania says that during the very first rehearsal “everything went wrong”. But the Greek-Dutch star adds that that was fine as the team had reckoned with that as the staging is so complex. On top of that, her choreographer Fokas Evangelinos gave her good advice and told her to just look into the camera.

Fashion designer Vrettos Vrettakos was responsible for making the costume. Even before it was finished, Stefania was already loving how the piece was starting to come together. She tells us that purple is definitely one of her favourite colours.

Check out the rest of the interview to see Stefania talk more about how much she loves her fans and how it feels to perform at a Eurovision in her country of birth.

She also discusses her Junior Eurovision experiences in comparison to her Eurovision participation, her love for Dua Lipa and what she would name her pet Pegasus.

Actually, that’s a very good point.

“Pegasus” was an individual winged horse. It is NOT the name of a species of mythical animals.

Bravo Stefania for this risky effort. Don’t care about nothing girl. Just relax and enjoy. Nail the song and smile on the camera. You will reach top10.

Our three previous entries flopped in the odds after first rehearsal. To say the least, I’m very happy that we’re still in the top 10 after the second rehearsal. U tube reviews are not as harsh as I was afraid; actually there are quite a few very positive ones. All good for now

It seems like too much effort for nothing. They invested a lot of energy into those dancers merging with the green screen but in the end it looks just like an animation. Unless there will be some kind of a reveal, it doesn’t make sense.

I really don’t like the trend of using various postproduction methods (e.g. green screen, on-screen animations, etc). I think the rule should be that you can only use camera feeds.
