When adrenaline levels hit the roof, people sometimes make big mistakes. And it would seem that someone involved in the grand final jury show needs to answer some questions from the Sanmarinese delegation. The following is a release from San Marino’s Eurovision 2021 delegation.

San Marino files formal protest over “technical problems” during jury final

Late yesterday night, the Director of San Marino RTV filed a formal protest to the Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest Martin Österdahl in relation to the technical problems that occurred during the Jury Rehearsal. Martin Österdahl this morning presented his apologies to the San Marino RTV and gave a guarantee that the artists and the performance will be protected to the highest degree. At this regards, Senhit’s staff states:

Last night, in the rehearsal of the Eurovision Final on the basis of which the national juries issued their verdict, during the performance of the team representing San Marino, a very serious event occurred and seriously endangered physical security of Senhit and the dancers who, together with the well-known American rapper FloRida, accompanied her on stage.

The rotating platform on which the artists were performing was not stopped by the attendant at the scheduled time, forcing them to jump to the ground from the platform moving at high speed. Since the platform itself is in fact a some meters long metal plate which rapidly rotates, raised a few tens of centimeters from the ground, getting off it while it is in motion involves intuitive risks, including the possibility of coming, once on the ground, hit and dragged by the moving platform.

Obviously, which is of course less important than the risk taken by the artists but still relevant, considering the importance of the exhibition, the same was heavily penalized by the incident, both for the impossibility for the artists to perform the planned choreographies and for the loss of concentration that it inevitably entailed. Among other things, the rotating platform had also been started late, with the consequence that all the expected shots were distorted (in other words, when the face should have been framed, it turned out to be the back, etc.).

Despite this Senhit, Flo Rida and the dancers have fully honored the quote “the show must go on”, completing as they could a performance that was still appreciated by the public (it is not known how much by the national juries, who still voted without being informed of the incident).

Given the seriousness of what happened, the production of the artists and the TV of the Republic of San Marino offered them the possibility to withdraw the team from the competition, obviously considering their physical safety more important than the competition itself, but out of respect for the public the artists have declined this offer, also due to the availability, granted late at night by the organization, recognizing the mistake, to allow a trusted technician of the team to work alongside the host broadcaster employee during the remaining performances, as indeed the participating broadcaster and the creative director had repeatedly and in vain requested in the months preceding the event”.

Are you surprised that this kind of mistake happened? Are you worred that

They should have complained immediately so they were given an second chance to perform.
Now it only seems to seek attention for their entry.

EBU are so disrespectful to San Marino, first with the unfair voting system, not allowing SMR to provide their own results, and now not doing anything to address this blatant unfairness.

No one knows.
They were able to calculate how Belarus did it’s vote in 2019, (average of the other countries in its semi final allocation pot) but even in 2019 the same method didn’t work for San Marino, implying it’s different.

There are multiple other ways to get a representative sample of what the people in San Marino think, but the EBU just can’t be bothered.

And San Marino does not get a discount for actually being able to pay the membership fee for Eurovision.
Because the country is so small, the artist is usually forced to pay many money to be allowed to sing for San Marino

Here’s the important part: “… to allow a trusted technician of the team to work alongside the host broadcaster employee during the remaining performances, as indeed the participating broadcaster and the creative director had repeatedly and in vain requested in the months preceding the event”.
1. Why was such a request allegedly rejected?
2. Why was the performance not stopped and restarted once it was realised the timing of the rotation was off? Safety first, people.

Why EBU alow San Marino to change the dresses of singer, backing dancers after 2 round of rehearsals. Only Malta change clothes but after first rehearsal. Its not fair to other countries, what San Marino and Malta doing.

I didn’t understand anything, they went to write about it in such complicated matter for such basic thing. So dramatic. I agree, might not be safe, they shouldn’t jump off but rather request to perform again, which I’m sure they would approve. Anywaaaaay

They could’ve simply asked to do the performance again.

didn’t something like this happen with Norway in 2019 in that their jury final staging went wrong they couldn’t re do and had a low score from the jury but on the night with the public got the highest points. Poor San Marino and Senhit love the song love the lady. Shame on the technician

Yes, although luckily in this case, it appears (from what I gather) that the technical difficulties weren’t noticed, so hopefully it shouldn’t cost them too many/any points with the jury. Norway was certainly not so lucky.

What had happened with Norway in 2019? Please explain as I have not been informed on this

Looking at the semifinal score split, I doubt Norway’s technical issues made that much of an impact. They won the televote in their semi, but the juries wouldn’t have even qualified them (11th). So unless there was a similar issue in the semis, it looks like the juries simply didn’t like “Spirit in the Sky.”

San marino TV is a drama queen as usual. Didn’t they say they are withdrawing in the past because of the unfair voting system and the fact that SMRTV televoting results will be a mix of their neighbours?

This ‘error’ first of all did not have an impact to the performance and the Dutch team will make sure it is fixed tonight. Greece had issues too but they were fixed. SMRTV should take it easy and enjoy the fun.

Never noticed anything watching on tv but anyway.
SMRTV is probably nervous of the big insurance cost if anything was to happen Flo Rida or something.

Oh I agree if it’s dodgy, it needs to be safe 10000%
I was just saying that it wasn’t noticeable on tv

According to what I understand, it happened yesterday, in the jury rehearsal, so I guess none of us saw it (unless you’re a journalist)

they talk about it publicly so that they have an excuse if the country does not achieve as good place as they hope?
