The grand final of Eurovision 2021 is almost upon us. One of this year’s acts will finally be crowned the winner and walk away with the prestigious microphone trophy.
The Wiwi Jury — our in-house panel of musical unprofessionals — first rated the 39 competing songs way back in late March, with predominantly only studio cuts available. Switzerland’s Gjon’s Tears came out on top of the jury ranking. France’s Barbara Pravi and Malta’s Destiny followed in second and third respectively.
While average rankings are all well and good, at Eurovision it’s the amount of high-scoring 12, 10 and 8 points an act receives that really matters. A song may be divisive, but if people still love it then they’ll pick up the phone and vote. So Team Wiwi did just that, and we re-cast our votes using this system through the Wiwibloggs Scoreaboard. In this instance, the top three were reversed. Destiny took home the can of beans gold medal, with Barbara Pravi claiming silver and Gjon’s Tears picking up the bronze.
However, all of this was done before seeing any of the live performances at the semi-finals. Like many, our thoughts changed after witnessing what the acts brought to the stage in Rotterdam. So we thought it was only right to reveal the Wiwi Jury’s updated favourites ahead of the Eurovision 2021 grand final.
Once again our jury is truly international. The 14 members hail from Australia, Germany, Israel, Spain, Colombia, Netherlands, New Zealand, USA and the United Kingdom.

When the songs for C’est vous qui décidez came out, Barbara and “Voilà” immediately stood out from the pack. Her amazing ability to connect a variety of emotions to words, and make you feel every bit of the journey without it sounding put on or overly pretentious, is a gift that only the best singers in the world can employ consistently. On the first listen, I was captured. As the weeks have gone on, Barbara has only grown in confidence, her light has only grown brighter, and the staging puts the focus right where it needs to be: on a beautiful chanteuse sharing her wonderful gift with the world. Tout simplement, c’est parfait! (Quite simply, this is PERFECT!)

We are mere hours away from what could be the best night of my life. Eurovision has given us highs and lows with its winners in recent years, but 2021 could bring the contest its best, most iconic winner of all time. Italy deserve it, Måneskin deserve it, and hell, even I deserve it. These guys give a stunning visual show, one of the best ever, while Damiano belts astounding vocals. I can only hope Italy’s six consecutive years of deserving victory will finally culminate in a win for them, for the future of Eurovision and for the rock community.

It’s very difficult to find faults with Barbara Pravi’s performance. “Voilà” is polished to perfection on stage: the lighting effects are clean and vivid, Barbara’s movements more dynamic and confident than ever. And even amongst the strong competition at this year’s contest, the French entry stands out for its loud and clear sentiment. “Écoutez moi” remains the most powerful opening line of the year, transcending language borders and hooking audiences in to an enchanting three-minute display of musical excellence. This is one of the most immaculate spectacles to have ever graced the Eurovision stage.

Brace yourselves, Hurricane warnings are in force for Rotterdam this Saturday! “Loco Loco” has always been one of my favourite songs of this year’s contest, but I’ve now officially been swept away in the storm after watching the live performance. Sanja, Ivana and Ksenija command the entire Ahoy arena from start to finish while delivering a high-energy performance. This is the entry that keeps me excited (and dancing) for the full three minutes and the one that I keep wanting to hit the replay button on.

From the very first listen in France’s national final C’est vous qui décidez, Barbara has been destined to win in my eyes. “Voila” is a song that has truly made me listen to what she is saying, expressing and feeling. Her performance has elevated even further on the Rotterdam stage with stunning lighting and camera work that mirrors and elevates the song to unassailable heights. Barbara is performing in a huge arena and yet, it feels like she is performing in the most intimate of spaces, and only I am there. If this doesn’t win, sure I will be disappointed, but overall, I will be delighted that France have given us this beautiful, elegant, movie star performance. A Eurovision classic.

Since the first time I witnessed Måneskin in glittery glam-rock catsuits serving high fashion and top quality rock, I haven’t stopped thinking about how fantastic and powerful “Zitti e Buoni” is. I was okay losing my favourite in semi-final two (Benny, sob) knowing what powerhouse was to come in the final. The staging is like this is their sold out world arena tour, and they serve a big message with a gritty sensuality. The way in which singer Damiano lures you in during the opening seconds beckons you into a game changer performance, and doesn’t let you go for three minutes. C’mon Italy, it’s hopefully finally your time!

Although I considered Switzerland as one of the strongest entries, I didn’t have it among my favourites for most of the competition. Gjon’s performance in the semi-final, however, blew me away and gave me all the feels. It was emotional, sensual and powerful at the same time. It all just came together in those three minutes. Modern dance is also something we haven’t really seen with Eurovision ballads, which is a welcome change.

This is a very enjoyable edition of Eurovision with a countless number of incredible songs, but Barbara Pravi is completely in a league of her own. Quite simply one of the most magical performances in the history of this contest, with a timeless look, sound and feel. An emotional delivery, which is abundantly haunting, enchanting and riveting viewing. After she performs live on Saturday night, I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m calling this my all-time favourite.

Italy all the way. Måneskin have been my favourites since Sanremo and they’ve managed to stay as my first place comfortably ever since. It is high time for a rock-renaissance and I’m all here for it. “Shum” has managed to become an outstanding experience in every sense. From the aesthetic to the sounds, to the choreography and staging, Ukraine has taken the biggest risk in their history, and it’s completely paid off. Go_A’s post-punk futuristic vibe fits perfectly with the hope of the pandemic’s end. They have lit the hope of going back to raving soon, and just that spark deserves a victory.

I’ve liked “Voilà” since it was first chosen as France’s entry. When I saw that they almost copied – and elevated – the staging from the national final, I knew that it would be my favourite. Many countries try to elevate their entry with lots of beats, gimmicks and pyro, but France does so through intimacy.

Earlier in the year we saw Måneskin slay on the Sanremo stage, but there was always the question of whether that would translate to a Eurovision context. From this week’s rehearsals we have learned that Måneskin can absolutely rock the Rotterdam stage. The band have translated their live style into a Eurovision-friendly performance. They’re a rock band and big glam performances with extravagant pyros are in their DNA – that’s why it works. The performance of “Zitti e buoni” doesn’t feel like something that’s trying to make an impact at Eurovision, rather it’s making an impact because that’s what it does. Even though Italy is top with the bookies, I’m still not quite sure they have this in the bag – but that’s what makes Eurovision so thrilling. And whether or not they take home the crystal microphone, Måneskin are sure to make a career-defining impact.

And there you have it. Our updated Wiwi Jury ranking for Eurovision 2021 sees Italy rising to the top. Måneskin finished sixth with the Wiwi Jury initially and seventh on the Wiwibloggs Scoreboard. However, since turning up to Rotterdam, the Italian band have certainly put the spotlight firmly on themselves as one of the big contenders going into the grand final.
We find another big climber in second place. Ukraine’s Go_A were eleventh with the original Wiwi Jury and eighth on the Wiwibloggs Scoreboard. But after performing in the first semi-final, the Ukrainian group have caught everyone’s attention. Despite only picking up one set of 12 points in our Wiwi Jury 2021 Update, Go_A were the only act to receive points from all 14 members of this jury.
Closely following behind in third is Barbara Pravi. The French singer is the only act to have made the top three in all of our Eurovision 2021 rankings. Being able to captivate listeners consistently throughout the Eurovision season is no easy feat, but Barbara still has a spell cast over many of Team Wiwi.
In only a few short hours, we’ll finally see who will be declared the winner of Eurovision 2021. Will our new favourite Italy take the crown? Or could our previous top picks in Switzerland and Malta still secure the victory? All will be revealed when the 26 acts take to the Rotterdam Ahoy stage.

it’s hard to predict something, but intuitively I feel that Ukraine will win tonight… no estimations of chances, just pure intuition…
I think the above is what I think will actually happen. As much as I hate it Malta will be lower than the top 5 unfortunately. The song is not the best, Destiny is way better than the song. Also could it be that Malta is extremely disadvantaged in the sense that to win we have to have everything perfect just because of limited resources, small nation, less diaspora, less of our culture and likings similar to other European countries?

How can you not give any points at all to Tusse (Sweden)? The song is great, the message is great and the personal story of the artist tops it all.
There is a general dislike of him and Sweden here as you will notice. You will be downvoted as soon as you write something positive about him or Sweden. It is the only country that has that effect.
In my view, the message is great, the song is average, but Tusse’s performance on Tuesday was cringeworthy. There are lots of better entries this year.

Whatever happens tonight, we have to admit that this kind of contests open to many candidates for victory up to the very last day adds somethings extraordinary to the edition (especially after waiting for two years).
I would particularly love to see France, Switzerland or Bulgaria win tonight, but simply the fact of having the contest back makes me happy already. So let juries and viewers decide who should take the crystal microphone home!
William is such a slippery man….I could not even imagine….People, viewers of wiwibloggs could clearly see and feel lots of Williams fluids to Manizha, the interview was brilliant, so warm and down to earth. Then he showed huge sympathy to rehearsals, placed her at top. And now, having 10 places, William gave Manizha NO points, just at all. Such an awkward situation. No trust anymore to a dissembler.
Massive difference between personal opinion and overall opinion. Like if I had my way, Bulgaria would be winning this and Ireland would have qualified, but my opinion isn’t sacrosanct,

When we look at the final 26, it can become clear who a lot of the vote grabbers will be, especially when we look at blocs that have been dismantled in the semis. Take the Baltics for example. Lithuania is the only Baltic to get through, so will definitely get the top points from Latvia, Estonia, Poland, as well as the usual top points from Ireland, UK and Norway. I share the same feelings as William about France being the likely winner for jury votes after dress rehearsal. I also think Italy could win televotes tonight. But its possible that either would get Top 3 on both categories so it leaves it open for another country like Switzerland, Malta or even Iceland but they’d need to place 2nd on both categories to win.

I can see Italy winning the televote, France winning the jury vote, and maybe Switzerland (or someone else) ending up with the most points.

I just wonder what will the juries do with Finland. I know it’s not typical but Blind Channel won the jury vote during Finland’s selection. And one day, in 2007 the juries were for the rock of Finland. For tonight they can be a surprise… or maybe not .What do you think ?

The most important thing I think is not the ranking but the difference of score for each candidate. It’s not the same thing if the first for jury/ televote has 5,17,48,76 more points than the second. That’s the problem of this year: we know approximately who will be well with juries/televote but we don’t know if it will be very close or not in term of numbers. That will be a close race.
If destiny was represanting sweden with that song there will not be any discasins this year you know what i mean .

Same! Would love to see Malta win at some point, and if the 2020 contest had of happened, they were my winner and I certainly would have called it deserved. But not this year. There is about 5/6 more deserving, better songs in my opinion.
Saying everyone hates Malta is tacky af, y’all qualify nearly every year, jeez I’m Irish and I would warrant that position more so than a Maltese Stan. But again I’m logical enough to know that’s simply not true. We just haven’t tried.
Her song is meh and derivative. Her costuming is hideous And although she undoubtedly can sing, she was very obviously miming the big notes in the smile finals. They need to stop the recorded backing vocals as quite a few were using them as lead vocals. It all should be live

I still think it’s between Italy and France (and for me it has been since the beginning – first I had France winning but I’ve recently changed to Italy because it just grew in power so much!). Of course we can have a surprise winner – and that would be okay too! And although I love Ukraine’s song, I really want a country that a) hasn’t won or b) hasn’t won in eons to win 🙂 [So Ukraine, Netherlands, Israel, Portugal and Sweden out]. And yes, I’m saying that as a Portuguese person that loved when Eurovision came to Lisbon.

If Italy manages to finish top 3 with the juries, then I think they will win.
If Switzerland takes the top 3 jury spot, it will also have a decent chance (but will likely be a compromise winner).
I have no idea what will happen with France and the televote.
I fear Malta may finish really high with the juries and will do decently in the televote and could surprise. I hope not, though.
I think it comes down to these 4 for the trophy.
This is what I find hateful in these biased comments. People don’t just say, “I hope that country wins” but rather “I hope that country does not win”. I have my own favourites which I hope will do well but I will never say that those songs which I am not really into will do badly. Such childish immaturity.

I always thought Malta was a democracy? I’d be forgiven by thinking it wasn’t by the attitude of the stans on this site. Not just this year, but almost every year we get the toxic stans pushing it down everyone’s face. You can’t say anything bad about the Maltese entry without some fool attacking you and being aggressive. You do your country no favours. However I think it is you who needs to learn the difference between not liking a song and hatred. If you had read my comment you would have realised that music. What I said, is that you don’t need to out down a song in order to praise others. There is no need to say “I hope that song does not win..” to show your preference. That is being toxic. There are a number of songs I am not into but I would never say “I hope they don’t win”.
This is a contest where someone has to win, someone has to lose and everyone is giving their opinion on each song. So yes, people are going to say what songs they don’t like. Which songs they want to win and which songs they dont

Bit of a wiwiblogg campaign for France there. It won’t win. The juries will vote heavily for it of course, as they always go for pretentiousness but it will die in the televote . It manages to be frantic and boring at the same time. Italy is pure class but I have a feeling it will be a surprise winner – possibly Finland or Portugal.
Why the hell would France flop in the televote ? stop conveying that idea, nobody knows how the public will vote and she might even win that freaking televote for all i know cause right now many people are loving it

Well if the odds are indeed right and italy ends up being 5th in the jury vote then it’s over for them aswell. As much as French chanson is divisive, rock is aswell but i’m willing to respect both of them
My personal favourite song is Cyprus, also I would love Lithuania to win for the concept, Russia for the message or France for the music quality but logical thinking is telling me it won’t happen. This year is very strong, the five top or even top ten could be a winner.

Bookies make their odds based on fan polls and social media comments. So it is actually the other way around – fans influence the bookmakers.

I think there’s no issue with the song… the staging absolutely kills it.
The UK song isnt radio freindly, it’s awful. The combination of the music and the voice is unberable. Everytime when it appears on Spotify playlist I get annoyed and skip it
The song is fine in my opinion (nothing amazing), let’s be honest here, the staging is an abomination (I think BMG are responsible, not even BBC can be blamed this time) and his vocals are quite weak. As a song, it’s way better than Germany, in my opinion, but the delivery is worse.
The sad thing is that after it comes last and maybe with nil points, there will be talk of Brexit and political voting and demands for the UK to withdraw. We need to own the fact that the UK has sent unrelenting garbage for most of this century. Europe don’t hate us , they hate our terrible entries. And so do we

Basically, I think Eurovision is going to Rome, Paris, Zurich/Geneva, or back to Kyiv next year.
I’d love Bulgaria to win, but if not I’d love to see Ukraine or even Russia win! but mostly Bulgaria since yh eyve never won and, their song is absolutely amazing from start to finish and her staging is spectacular
Bulgaria is awesome this year. But to be honest the top 10 is full of first timers or countries that haven’t win in about 20-40 years (except Ukraine ofc, but they’re delivering quality this year) so any of them would be deserving I think. Out of the top 10 the only potential winner that would feel a bit anticlimactic for me would be Malta, simply because I think their is better songs and the delegation have been annoying af throughout this season. Italy is not among my faves but they just might take the trophy home. I don’t think a Malta or Bulgaria win is very likely any more unless Malta wins the jury vote. Then it could be possible for her to get enough votes to hold the top spot.
It’s so unpredictable but we may have a much clearer picture after the jury vote.

Well, I still think tonight’s results are very open to anything. I can’t reckon any of the candidates as the obvious winner. For Italy, I can say that I like their charisma and staging. They are very professional and have the confidence of being the winner of a well-known competition. However, I still choose the Finland song over them. we will see… the one thing I am sure about is the fact that wast majority of viewers and voters will be unsatisfied…
Winner: Italy, France or Malta. Dark horses: Switzerland and Iceland. Ukraine isn’t polished enough and doesn’t appeal to the general audience. San Marino didn’t rack up as many YouTube views in comparison to its competitors, which makes me think they’re overhyped within Eurovision fandom. Portugal isn’t a winning song, it’s a nice song, but not a winning song. Finland has a strong and vocal fandom, but let’s be realistic, they probably make up 1% of Eurovision viewers.
