On Saturday evening national final season arrived in Lithuania with the first heat of Pabandom iš Naujo! 2022. Six of the eleven acts advanced to the final of the show. They are: Erica Jennings, Augustė Vedrickaitė, Urtė ŠilagalytėJoseph JuneMary Mo and Elonas Pokanevič.

This year’s series of Pabandom iš Naujo! has returned to the original format from 2020 after being shortened last year. It includes three heats, two semi-finals and one grand final. A total of 36 acts are taking part in the Baltic state’s music competition, which will determine their artist and song for Eurovision 2022.

The 18 acts that got through via the two heats will perform in the semi-finals of 29 January and 5 February. Eventually, eight acts will make it through to the final from the semi, and will compete for the right to represent Lithuania at Eurovision 2022.

The result was determined by both a jury and televoters, who each accounted for half of the score. Among the jury members were LRT popular music editor Ramūnas Zilnys, presenter Gerūta Griniūtė, songwriter Vytautas Bikus, performer Ieva Narkutė and The Roop frontman Vaidotas Valiukevičius.

Unlike Latvia’s Supernova, I am quite impressed with how many excellent entries Pabandom’s Lithuania will be able to count to choose it’s relevant entry this year

Heat 2 was recorded. There will be 11 acts once again. It was not enclosed why the planned 12+1 won’t happen and when/if “Basas Pegasas” will ever debut as they were intended to on Heat 1. Some known artists will appear: Titas & Benas (their 2021 entry was “No”), Ieva Zasimauskaite (she represented Lithuania in 2018), Cosmic Bride (the song title is ohmygodable – “The Devil Lives in Spain”), and most importantly – Moosu X with “Love That Hurts”. That means Heat 3 will contain some favourite artists: Gebrasy, Monika Linkyte, Monika Liu, Ruta Loop and Vilija Mataciunaite. Now that’s… Read more »

Honestly, Joseph had the best overall package, song and performance are cool and could stand out in the actual contest. The others are bland and not in a “good generic” kinda way, just flat out non qualifiers :/

Listen, Lithuania’s heats are always a mess, that’s what happens when you accept literally everyone. But the final will be good as always.

For once, my favourites weren’t kicked out. I’m really glad Erica and Joseph made the cut.

I just simply enjoyed watching the show for the sake of performances. I wish there was a show like that even without a contest for eurovision. Thank you LRT! It was nice to listen to versatile music and see new artists!

I dob’t get why they have so many nights for this selection, just do a semifinal and a big final. it’s getting tiring.

You are not forced to watch it though – just skip it until the final if you want to. Heats in Lithuania are rarely watched too, they’re more of filter shows to eliminate the worst and then fight for the final tickets. Take it or leave it.

Don’t worry, Lithuanians don’t watch the heats either. Just look at those televote numbers lol. I totally agree that the whole thing is too long.

An enjoyable first Saturday night of the 2022 season for me. Thanks to LRT, the artists and everyone else involved. I won’t be able to follow the rest of the Lithuania series live (due to clashes with other national finals), so have a very good 2022.

All of them average songs. If one of these wins, no final for Lithuania this year.

I don’t think any of the songs are going to be contenders to win the ticket for Lithuania at Eurovision. At most I can only see two of the first heat semi finalists Making it through. Not all the songs are out yet, so let’s wait for the second and third heat to commence truly get a full picture of the songs. If there are some very strong songs, they haven’t been released yet.

The stage was pretty good but the good songs did not come. Also Lithuania should stop hating their native language, such a shame. Just few verses of lithuanian in one song, that is all. I wish we could get at least something like “Be paslapciu” last time. Oh well. Let’s hope the next heats will be way better.

The irony is that in LTU, music in Lithuanian is the most trending for the past, I say, 5 years. It’s easier to reach top charts in this country if the song is sung in Lithuanian instead of English. Well, technically it would be – French (our soft spot is French ballads), Lithuanian, Spanish (specifically reggaeton music), English – but you get the idea. However, in Lithuania it is believed that English songs would appeal to a wider audience (cannot argue with that in most cases). Plus, it’s highly unlikely for 2022 winner to sing other than English in the… Read more »

Erica has potential, but this current performance is very messy. Dancers are distracting and don’t fit the song at all. Neither do the visuals. I expected something more moving and modern. But it’s definitely not the worst scenario.

I also enjoyed Auguste’s performance. Really professional, love the visuals and camera work on that one. Song is not my style, but it’s not bad either. Girl can sing.

The dancers have got to go and Erica need some more interesting digital visuals for the performance.

Why are people “disliking” someone’s opinion? Can smell the toxicity all the way from North Pole.

Indeed, those dislikes seem unjustified. Why be disliked for praising an artist? That doesn’t make sense. I sometimes expect some comments to be disliked as a rule, but this literally makes no sense that I can see.

I feel this heat was average, but I think Urte and Auguste stood out, and Erica upped her game a bit (this song is fairly better than her previous attempts).

That’s true, but at least They’re not completely terrible. The one positive I can say is that they’re better than last year’s entries

I don’t see the winner coming from this heat, but there were some fine moments. Auguste was my favorite tonight, I think her performance was really convincing and the song stood out. Bonus point for the good use of backing vocals. I would say Urte had the best song of the heat, I just hope she sells it better next time. Erica performed well, but I’m not into her song and the dancers were a little distractive.

You mean the way they used the backing vocals? That whole entry always sounded weird to me. I wasn’t surprised at all when it did so badly.

Viktorija and Voldemars out and Joseph June in is a big crime.

Don’t think we heard the winner in tonight’s heat but the stand-out for me was Urt?. Also really liked August? and Mary Mo, Erica Jennings is much better than her average offering this year (slower songs are more aesthetic)

Hoping the next 2 weeks will bring more memorable and exciting songs from Lithuania.

Six, not five artists advanced to the semi-finals. Thus, Elonas is the 6th qualifier. Please, fix it. 🙂

I am okay with these qualifiers, except that I’d put Urte first, then Auguste. I liked these two. I am also totally okay with Sun Francisco and Elonas Pokanevic, the more I think about their songs and performances. I’m not too keen on Erica or Joseph’s songs, but I can see people getting drawn to these performances. Voldemars was… funny. I’m not sure was that the intention, but I will remember that performance. 🙂 While there was no big WOW moment tonight, several of the songs were okay, and the staging was quite professional.

I’m not normally into his music, but there’s one thing I like about Voldemars: he’s always trying something different. And since his voice is quite distinctive, he manages to give each of his attempts his own signature.
