Pictures: Maian, Andrei Zevakin & Grete Paia

February is just a few weeks away, and with it the semi-finals of Eesti Laul 2022.

Twenty acts survived the quarter-finals of Estonia’s national selection. And they now know in which semi-final they’ll sing following the allocation draw.

Eesti Laul 2022: Semi-Final allocation

Semi-Final 1 – February 3

Alabama Watchdog – “Move On”

Andrei Zevakin feat. Grete Paia – “Mis nüüd saab” (What Now)

Elina Nechayeva – “Remedy”

ELYSA – “Fire”

Helen – “Vaatu minu poole” (Look at Me)

Kaia-Liisa Kesler – “Vaikus” (Silence)

Merilin Mälk – “Little Girl”

Ott Lepland – “Aovalguses” (In the Light)

Stig Rästa – “Interstellar”

Frants Tikerpuu and Triin Niitoja – “Laululind” (Songbird)

Semi-Final 2 – February 5

Anna Sahlene – “Champion”

Black Velvet – “Sandra”

Boamadu – “Mitte kauaks” (Not for Long)

Evelin Samuel – “Waterfall”

Jaagup Tuisk – “Kui vaid” (If Only)

Jyrise – “Plaksuta” (Clap)

Maian –  “Meeletu” (Crazy)

Minimal Wind ft. Elisabeth Tiffany – “What To Make Of This”

Púr Múdd & Shira – “Golden Shores”

STEFAN – “Hope”

As detailed in section 7 of ERR’s Eesti Laul 2022 rules, voting will work slightly differently in the semis.

Five acts will advance from each semi-final. The first three will be determined using a 50-50 combination of jury and public voting, while the remaining two qualifiers will come from a second round of public televoting from the acts that remain.

Unlike in previous years, there will not be a one-week gap between the semi-finals and grand final. The country will crown its Eurovision 2022 singer on Saturday 12 February.

Who are you most excited to see perform in the semi-finals? And who is your winner? Let us know in the comments box below.

I really don’t know what to say about this allocation… I guess I’m fine with it. I just hope that Maian, Merilin Mälk, Jyrise and Andrei & Grete would qualify. I have no doubt that Stig and Jaagup would qualify. I’m kinda disappointed about Remedy and Hope, these songs just don’t do it for me. And, I’m still bitter about Ariadne! I do have to admit that Champion is growing on me. Honestly, I’m surprised, I mean, have we seen something that is so hardcore Swedish? Well, anyway, this Eesti Laul is going to turn out to be very interesting….

This is one of the rare occasions I agree with most of the fandom: I want Maian to go to the final and I’d be daydreaming if she won!
Though we all know that’s quite unlikely, given how the Estonians vote.

maian is my favorite and the only song out of this bunch that i’d listen to outside of eurovision context. but i wouldn’t be upset if stefan or even elina won, elina less so because we all know she can do a lot better than remedy

Remedy is amazing. Probably the best of Eesti Laul this year, and much better than La Forza

Honestly this is one of the few national finals where I would be fine if there was no televote, most of the time Estonian voters are just tasteless (keyword most).

and because paying estonian voters don’t vote for your flop faves they’re tasteless ? yeah let’s take away their possibility to choose their own representative because matthew from the united kingdom disagrees with their preference…

Just by looking at some of the songs the televote put through and the juries saved I’m pretty sure I would be fine with no televote, but your right the estonian public should have a say but all I’m saying is if they got rid of it I wouldn’t be mad ya know ? I’m from Canada :p

The first semi seems packed with acts that will do well with the televote, while the second one is packed with acts that deserve to be in the final but will probably need a push from the jury… In both cases I predict fierce competition. In the 1st semi, will the jury push Alabama Watchdog and Kaia-Liisa enough? How popular can Frants & Triin be? In theory, Andrei & Grete, Elina, Ott and Stig can do well with both sides. There’s also Elysa with that kind of song I don’t like, but tends to do well with the televote. And… Read more »

A long time ago, I made a prediction of who could make the final without knowing how the artists were going to be sorted in the two semis. Well, now we know, so let’s see how they stack up: Semi final 1: Alabama Watchdog: No Andre Zevakin Ft. Grete Paia: Yes Elina Nechayeva: Yes Elysa: Yes Helen: No Kaia-Liisa Kesler: No Merilin Malk: No Ott Lepland: Yes Stig Rasta: Yes Frants & Triin: No Semi Final 2: Anna Sahlene: Yes Black Velvet: No Boamadu: No Evelin Samuel: No Jaagup Tuisk: Yes Jyrise: Yes Maian: Yes Minimal Wind: No Pur Mudd… Read more »

I believe that the first semi-final is quite predictable and I fully agree with your predictions. The second semi final has room for much more drama though. Stefan, Jaagup and Anna Sahlene will qualify I think but all other songs are borderline, fighting for the remaining two spots.

I could be right in the end, but there could be a couple surprises that I didn’t see coming, due to the live performance quality as I mentioned. Unless one of them screws up drastically, I agree that Anna, Jaagup and Stefan have it in the bag to make it to the final from semi final 2. The other two spots are wildcards. I put down Jyrise and Maian to round out the five (as we now know how the semi finals are split), but it could be anyone else. Pur Mudd & Shira could take a spot, maybe one… Read more »

Yes exactly. Since the first three are decided by 50/50 Televoting and jury voting, I think some acts that were jury qualifiers in the quarter finals can maybe qualify in the first three. Since the remaining 2 acts are decided by televoting afterwards I still see the televoting having more power in Eesti Laul. That’s why I am confident most of the televoting qualifiers of the quarter-finals will make it to the finals.

just like in 2021, the semis aren’t equal. should start getting prepared to say goodbye to some amazing songs of SF2 like What To Make Of This or Plaksuta

My qualifiers (random order)

SF1
Andrei Zevakin ft Grete Paia
Elina Nechayeva
Ott Lepland
Kaia-Lisa Kesler
Elysa

SF2
Jaagup Tuisk
Jyrise
Stefan
Maian
Pur Mudd ft. Shira / Minimal Wind

kinda impossible for me to pick 5 from SF2

All I know is that I want Maian with Meeletu in the final. I KNOW that she probably won’t win and that Estonia is most likely gonna send another basic pop song, but that song is one of my faves this NF season and I just need to see her in the final. I’ll be forever grateful if she wins, but I just hope that she won’t be undeseredly kicked out.

she’d surely stand out for all the right reasons, but i also feel like estonia will pick stefan who indeed has a basic pop song.

Stefan’s a far better and more emotive vocalist, and Hope’s production is far better than The Lucky One’s, so on those two factors he’ll do far better with the juries at least.

I think Estonia will probably qualify if they send either Maian, Stefan or Pur Mudd and Shira.
